Title: Playing around
Post by: rustalan on October 13, 2012, 07:37:17 PM
Been trying a few things on my Williams Phoenix. Red the post about dipping globes in glass paint by one of the members and gave it a shot.

Sorry the pics arn't  that good. I used the mirror  and cut it with a guillotine at work so it does all the vertical surfaces under the plastic and doubled the light generated by the globes. %.%

Looks great mate. I've done the glass paint trick but the went on to LEDs. Just be aware the paint tends to make the globes a little hotter I found. So they may not last as long.

I have been playing around with my Phoenix machine (like yours) and I found that the general illumination and everything light wise is MUCH brighter after Beaky rebuilt the power supply board and the others. Adding brand new 44 globes everywhere also helped alot instead of the 30 yr old working originals.

I think I will stick to std bulbs beause you can get away with Leds on DMD games, but it just completely changes the original look on older 70's games.

Overall, a nice looking game the 1978 model Phoenix Pinball. I think there are 3 or 4 Phoenix owners on here now. More the better !

Thanks for adding the photos  ^^^

47's are better mate... draw less current and give off less heat.

Ive got bulbs in some of my EM games that have been sprayed with normal enamel from a can... they light up well and 6 years down the track all are still working.. can honestly say that i havent experienced any shortening in life expectancy on these

+1

Make sure you only use #47 globes in behind the backglass. I use #47 under plastics, and #44 under playfield inserts. It is all personal opinion, but #47 are a better alternative.

The globes are 47's. The mirror is very similar to the reflector in a headlight but not as highly polished and only a mil or so thick, used in solar panel arrays.
