levelling inserts with mylar covering

Probably been covered before but here is the scenario hypothetically:

have one stargate playfield that had a few inserts sitting high on the playfield (not sunken).
The top of the pf is covered with mylar.
The mylar is bubbling and needs to be removed.

Do you (a) try to level the inserts via heat and hammer while the mylar is in place or (b) remove the mylar and then start a bashin'?

Remove mylar, then remove insert(s). Reglue inserts, insert and level them with the playfield.
