Title: Forum problems
Post by: Creech on November 26, 2010, 10:05:14 PM
Guys, please bear with me as I sort through some issues on the forum. I upgraded to 1.1.12 and since then things seem to be dropping in and out and we have also lost a few of the customisations. I will endeavour to get things back on track by tomorrow some time. Please be patient.

Thanks Creech for the explanation and for all the hard work in the background, I'm sure it's appreciated.

No worries, Creech. Thanks for giving us the options of choosing our own color.

As with the others, I've picked RED - and I agree - it looks AWESOME

I don't know if I lost any unread threads myself, I had about 5 unread Friday morning and then about 15 or 20 this morning - it could just have been a slow Friday.

What are you saying Gavin?

Well i used to have a full page that showed "new"threads and all unread threads... i actually have about 180 pages of these.

Now when i got to "unread posts" i only have 6 threads shown... not the full page of 20 or so.

Ive got a feeling that the whole thing reset itself and is now only showing unread posts since that reset.... seems i may be starting again from zero

Same here - I used to have 20+ pages of unread threads (thread with new posts). Today I have 6 "unread" threads. It may have reset. But I swear last night there was an "unread threads" and an "unread threads since last visit". I clicked the former, and it went back to the 20+ pages view. I'm using the RED theme - I might try the default again.

I'm not having any problems, seems OK to me, using the default theme as it's easy on the eye.

There are now "REPLIES" and "UNREAD" tabs on the menu.

From the author of the mod:

"The tabs are meant to replace the ugly text of "Show unread posts since last visit" and "Show new replies to your posts", which I remove from my themes. It also shows ALL unread messages, regardless of last visit time, unlike the default "unread" action which you get through that text."

Same here, lost the "show all unread posts" although I always used the "show unread posts since last visit" option previously anyway.

But using it gets this response (if there are no unread posts since last visit)

"No unread topics found since your last visit. Click here to try all unread topics." The second sentence is a hyperlink to all unread posts.

Thats not working for me. I left this alone as i figured that id gradually accumulate pages of unread topics ( which was kinda working). but this morning i only have about 8 messages again.

UNREAD tab just refreshes what i already have... doesnt give whats missing at all

reckon it could be... had to go through "HOME"and search to find your last message.

Now have 1 unread post.

If i read it though... all will be gone again!

Er no....

Still losing posts... had some 15 posts on one page last night when i logged off ( the 180+ pages of unread have gone for good)... log on this morning and only 8 posts.
For some reason i dont get the options that Nino does to "click unread"

In fact "unread"is highlighted in toolbar. Clicking this OR "unread since last visit" has same results.

This forum worked well for me until the options to change page colour appeared... ive completely lost the history of unread posts

Are you sure you don't have the stats header minimised at the top of the page. Is there a plus or minus sign at the top right of the page?

Er no....

The option to change colour has nothing to do with this issue. It started happening when I upgraded from 1.1.11 to 1.1.12. Can you please attach a screen shot of what you mean when you say you don't get the same options as Nino?

What i mean is that this ( from nino's post) doesnt happen for me

YEP - All good for me - in fact - when you don't have any "unread posts since last visit" - it gives you a message to "select UNREAD"

Seems to me that im only getting "posts made today" now... all posts shown are from this morning. before i cleared cookies etc i had posts from yesterday in there... these have gone along with the few thousand others

@.@.  Sorry creech your spot on
Title: Re: Forum problems
Post by: Strangeways on December 01, 2010, 09:23:59 AM

They are similar buttons, but they display different (and expected) results for me ;

"Show unread posts since last visit" = http://aussiepinball.com/index.php?action=unread

"Unread" = http://aussiepinball.com/index.php?action=unread;all;start=0

"..since last visit" are NEW post updated since I last logged on. If this list is empty, and I remain logged in for 2 hours, I hit the button again and then IF there are new posts, I see them - it is dynamic.

"Unread" is exactly than - I STILL have over 20 pages of unread posts.

Tony's updates have mostly been "cosmetic" - the only functional item lost was the "Donations" field.

I just had a look and I can see there is a problem with "Mark all messages as read". So I will look into this but I can't see any problems with "Show unread posts".
Title: Re: Forum problems
Post by: ajlaird on December 02, 2010, 12:35:10 AM
No problems here using Google Chrome.

As I try to keep the unread posts to a minimum (usually less than a page), I may not be the best person to ask, though.
Title: Re: Forum problems
Post by: Creech on December 02, 2010, 12:36:59 AM
I think I've got it sorted now. Mark all messages as read seems to actually mark all as read now. Before it was leaving 1 or 2 posts hanging around.
Title: Re: Forum problems
Post by: Retropin on December 03, 2010, 09:29:15 AM
We any closer to sorting this issue??

With only 6 posts displayed as "ÜNREAD" im not really a fully active member. If i only have 6 posts do any new members?? If so, theyd probably get the impression that very little goes on and move away.
6 posts and none of the subjects really apply to me
Title: Re: Forum problems
Post by: Creech on December 03, 2010, 10:58:48 AM
There is definitely a problem with the way "UNREAD" works. I just registered a new test account and "UNREAD" showed no posts. Not good! I'll spend some time getting this sorted on the weekend. Thanks for highlighting it Gavin.

Is there any reason why it is not an issue with some members ?

Is anyone else having similar issues ?

Mine seems fine. I use Firefox for browsing.
Title: Re: Forum problems

FYI I think I'm having the same issue as Retropin.. both the "Show unread posts since last visit" and clicking the unread tab show the same limited number of posts. Prior to the update I had a lot of unread posts. I had never clicked "mark all unread posts as read", as once i'd read everything I was interested in that was actually "new", I would go on to read the older unread stuff.

It's as if the update marked everything as read, so now I the only unread posts I see are posts since my last visit, rather than everything that is unread.

I'm also using Firefox (v3.6.12).

Creech, I am like Gavin,I have lost the 20 pages worth, only have the 5 or 6 unread messages from last visit etc.  !@#

Also, I have gone into "General Discussion" and noticed at least a dozen unread topics so the "unread since last" is not working correctly at all.  !@#  !@#

Everything is ok with me, i used to click "Show unread posts since last visit." which now shows only a few posts.

Now i use the new "unread" button and it shows over 100 pages of unread posts.

How about now Gavin?
Title: Re: Forum problems
Post by: Retropin on December 03, 2010, 11:09:27 PM
This is really cranky now..

I had only one post in "unread"

I knew this must be wrong so i went through "Home" and saw that 63wizz had replied in this thread... i read the reply.
I then go to my messages to reply to one and come back and i have  approx 6 unread posts... one of these though is 63wizzs' reply which i have already read.

Now, if this is any indication to what is going wrong.. heres the EXACT scenario of what happened.

Everything was fine until i turned the pages red ( after reading some posts) I didnt like it so changed th apge colour back to "DEFAULT"
Since then, ive had the problem of no posts to read.

Now then.. today i click "UNREAD" as usual and only have say 6 posts. I then REFRESH the page and i get logged out even though i have clicked " Stay logged on forever"... i have to log back in, but the Home page is red again for some reason.
Once logged in, it reverts to "Default" mode again but i only have 1 post which is BossXXXX office.

Click "refresh" and still the same 1 post

Go to messages, come back and get the 6 posts

Any chance we could just get the old forum back and sod the colour selection?
Title: Re: Forum problems
Post by: Creech on December 03, 2010, 11:18:11 PM
Well it really has me beat. I have posted a question on the SMF support forum. I really think the colours have nothing to do with it. It was just a coincidence. Choosing a colour just changes the forum stylesheet, not any source code. I was mucking around with some settings hence you getting logged off the forum at that time.

I'm trying to get advice on how to reset the post markers so that you will see all posts once again when you select "UNREAD". Please bear with me...
