Title: What's my next pin?
Post by: Discodan on November 09, 2012, 05:00:04 PM
Well after stating here just a few weeks ago that I only needed one pin it's time to eat my words. I'm not in a rush but it's time to start researching what's going to sit next to the TAF so I'd welcome the collective wisdom of the group.

- It would need to be a bit cheaper than the TAF, I'm thinking $3k or less is nice.
- DMD onwards
- reliable and in good operating condition, I don't have the time for a resto project unfortunately

One option I'd looked at was Tommy, I always liked the flipper shutter feature. I guess I'm looking for a bit of an underrated sleeper of a machine. CFTBL is another option although I don't love the game play as much as some here. I always like Dredd but it may be a bit adult themed to get past the missus/kids

Are there any other left field options I'm missing?

thanks in advance
d

A few really good value (in terms of playability) options in my opinion are:

Whitewater
Black Rose
Johnny Mnemonic
Roadshow
Jurassic Park
Junkyard (may be over $3k)

A couple of the Stern machines that aren't mentioned much that i really enjoy are:
Monopoly
Roller Coaster Tycoon
Ripley's (again, prob over $3k)

In fact i have kept a number of these machines over Addams that i sold..

Last Action Hero (Data East)
Frankenstein (Sega)
Star Trek 25th Anniversary (Data East)
Tales from the Crypt (Data East)
Fishtales (Bally/WMS)
X Files (Sega)
Revenge from Mars (Pin2000)
Star Wars Episode 1 (Pin2000)
Star Wars (Data East)

are just a few more titles which are excellent value for money and great playing games at affordable prices.

Even a Star Trek Next Generation in project form for under 3 grand can be had, and sometimes u can get lucky on ebay and buy one for $3k which might only need rubbers n bulbs n a clean if someone is selling cheap for a quick sale, which is a great game.

Search ebay, gumtree and trading post often, as well as visit any pinball dealers in your area, because alot of people have alot of stock and sometimes u can be in the right place at the right time !  goodluck with your search....

You should be able to pick a nice Tommy for under $2500.

Thanks guys, that's great. Some good games I have fond memories of in there and quite a few I haven't played as well. jurassic park and star trek NG are tempting but I should get out there and start test driving a few. its good to know you can get good games without paying silly money

cheers

It always amazes me just how many very good and playable machines can be had in the $1800 - $2500 range. Depends on who is selling, of course.

Now these are not so called A list titles but there are definitely a number of very good pinball machines to be had in this price range, especially if purchased in unrestored but still good condition.

$3000 should give you a great choice of games, as evidenced already by those listed.

There are heaps of games under $3000 that fit your bill, get out and play a heap and then make your decision
