Had the technician look at my Maverick paddle wheel issue today...the rotation is too slow and it triggers the ball search.
He believes that the new Maverick paddle wheel motor I purchased from Marco is the issue.
Apparently it runs at 6rpm when he tells me it should be 11 or 12 rpm to give it the correct speed so as not to trigger the ball search.
Can anyone confirm the rpm on the side of their Mav motor?
The part number of mine is the same as the one they still sell for Mav - 041-5036-00.
It's hard to believe they would've sent me the wrong motor but this is what the technician is telling me as everything else associated with the 'Lauren Belle' has been gone over thoroughly at it's all fine. New motor & new belt also.
Has anyone else had this issue with their Maverick? !@#

This is all I could find on mine:

Not sure if mine works yet though, as I bought it as a project pin.

You have the right part number. I don't know much apart from that.

Thanks for that...5rpm. I'm thinking mine's the right one also.
Hope you get it up and running soon!

might be a stupid question, but are the optos lit up on the Lauren Belle in lane? if not it will go into ball search mode. If their not lit up, wriggle the connectors under the playfield.
-
Yeah I've heard the optos can cause some grief.

The technician checked all the optos and said they were fine. I'm not sure if he just couldn't fix it and blamed the motor...how could it be the wrong Rpm when I bought a brand new Maverick motor from Marco?
It sucks that the two issues I had, the paddle wheel and the sound dropping out, were the reasons I got him out and he fixed neither and charged me more than he should've. ^.^

again if the optos ain't perfect, I've heard it creates issues, here is a video that fixes the opto issues:
For me, I try do everything / anything I can before giving up and taking it to a tech or whoever, as its a good way to get to know your machine.
I also watch all of the TNT you tube videos, like the one above.
Todd has allot of great tips that could come in handy one day *%*

Check the voltage input on the motor terminals.

Sound dropping out is same issue with mine, reseated all ROMs and was OK for a few games. Have narrowed it down to bad connectors on sound board. When I wiggle them, the sound comes good.

My game starts with full sound and then if I walk away after a game or two and come back I'll have no sound at all. Sometimes the first game has sound and then the secon game I play will have no sound. Is that similar to what yours does?

What did he charge you for if he didn't fix anything ? I assume you won't be wasting any more $$ on him in the future.
-
Yep sounds like the same prob. Next time you turn it on and play. Have the BG off and when the sound dissapears just slightly wiggle connectors on the sound board. If it comes back, that's the prob.

I originally told him about the paddle wheel issue & the sound problem and he told me to send him the power supply which I did. Then he calls and says it's ready and that he's in my area and he can drop it off.
He then takes a look at it, installs the power supply, solders some things on the driver board etc...and then charges me for a couple of hours + he charges a callout fee even though I didn't call him out plus, of course, the repair of the power supply.
Unfortunately, I still have the two original issues and a much lighter wallet!

The technician suggested the two pulleys might have been reversed at some stage and this might be causing the slow rotation of the paddle wheel...is that possible?
-
I don't see why anyone would even consider that. I'm beginning to wonder how many other people have been charged for unrepaired pins by a tech. I have heard of people that say the machine is too expensive to repair and then to offer a low price to buy it.
-
I don't think the motor is getting enough power...I compared it to someone elses and they get 29v and I'm getting 19v.
-
Check the voltage input on the motor terminals.

That's the 19v I just mentioned...
-
Who's the tech? Pretty basic and standard procedure to test the voltage going to the motor... its meant to be 30V and you get 19V?.. Surprised its turning at all.
-
Time to pull out the manual and check the source of the voltages. If the manual was not provided, check eBay - it was most likely removed and then listed separately #@#

I'll keep that to myself for now. If he rebuilt the power board might it be the relay under the playfield or should I be looking elsewhere?

I have a manual that I can send you via email but it is 9MB

Can you recommend a tech in the Brisbane area?

I tracked down the exact type of u-groove pulley but with twice the diameter. Will update when it arrives in a week or so. #*#

I'm repairing a Maverick at the moment and have a similar issue...the 1st issue is the DMD (completely fried) and replacing it with the Dr Pinball mod. While I'm waiting for the parts to arrive, I discovered an issue with the paddle wheel. The optos seem to be working (the sound goes off when the ball goes through the beam), but sometimes the ball will get stuck in the paddle while. The ball will drop into the wheel and the wheel will stop completely. Other times, the wheel will turn as normal and feed it to the wireform.
Can anyone suggest where to start with this issue? The paddle wheel is continuously moving from when a game starts. Assuming this is normal. Sometimes it will lift the ball and sometimes it will get stuck and then the ball search kicks in. From under the playfield, the rubber pulley looks ok and the gears turn as normal.
Cheers!
Adam.

I bought same motor from Marco. Same issue. I don't think you can get it to run much faster. I've found the best solution is to simply keep a finger on the flipper button each time it enters wheel. No more ball searches.
-
I also found a post on Aussie Pinball where they said the pulley was slipping. The black rubber is a bit frayed. I will replace that first.
Thanks!
-
Success! Replaced the rubber pulley belt with a brand new one. Levelled the machine to around 7 degrees also. The paddle wheel picks the ball up every time.
