Title: Safety First !
Post by: Strangeways on October 09, 2008, 10:15:27 PM

Years ago I stuffed my back up trying to make a garden out of the clay the builders left behind on our new house.. Prolapsed disks..

Simply - One disk from digging the clay in the garden, and then a year later - another digging a post hole. There's a third one in there just for good measure !

Its all good - After diagnosis, I manage them through changing my lifestyle and regular exercise.. I even played cricket for 5 years..

So idiot me bent over the body of the Rocky to solder a ground wire and BANG !!! I've aggravated two of the three disks.. ouch and f$%ken ouch !!

Morale of the story - THINK before you DO.. Takes 5 minutes to pull out the part and work on it while on the workbench.. So I TRIED to save time... and now I can't go near a pin for a week (except to play them), and I've had some of the week off lying flat...

So don't be dumb like me - No bloody shortcuts !!!!

Look after yourself Nino. A back injury is a bitch to get over. There isn't a more debilitating type of injury. Without a good back, you pretty much can kiss goodbye to a lot of simple tasks in life.

LOL- did mine about a year ago taking a pin out of the back of my van on my own.

Spent 3 days in agony - cant walk, cant crap etc. I feel for you  mate - is no laughing matter despite my LOL at the start.

Once it goes out - can pop at anytime.

I still lift pins out the van on me own though

Yes - It is a reminder of how we need to take particular attention with our backs. Pinballs are heavy bastards, and they might look light, but sometime the way we move them can be cumbersome and lead to trouble. I looked after my back and participated in the recent Container days at Child's and I was fine... But even a simple task of leaning "into" a cab can put strain in a particular area.. You don't have to be lifting anything..

I've been confined indoors this week and I've decided to do some board repairs.. Hopefully, I'll be able to sit down rather than lie down or stand up..

I've had 2 days off work and I've made the most of my time by repairing 20 X 6 digit displays with various issues.. I won a few on eBay ages ago and I had a few others for repair.. So even with a crook back, I still found something to do - "pinball related"  :D
