Title: EL Wire MOD on DMDs
Post by: swinks on March 08, 2012, 12:46:46 PM
I noticed some interest in a Tron Pro, I too wanted one, but with the look of the LE as those lights on the ramps were awesome.

I found this thread on Pinside and a good way to make a Pro look the part with the ramps just staying one colour.

Tron LE would be the way to go.

Thanks for the link, Have had a talk with the missus and as it is my 'dream' pin she agreed i would most likely not be 'satisfied' with a pro.

So i have been given permission to get one if one becomes available, but only if it becomes available. Im not allowed to 'ask' for one.  ^^^

Tron LE would be the way to go.

Yes that is my deduction as well.

Now i just have to start the (most likely) long wait for one to become available.  !!!

swinks, you can do this to any Stern or B/W pin if you are inclined for very little cost/effort.

Here is my TZ I did. They can be set to stay on or off permanently, or flash on and off.

I can do a separate thread write up as to how it was done if there is interest?

Yes please pinsanity that would be very much appreciated to do a dedicated thread - did you use el wire?

Yes. Just give me a second as I need to go through my old ebay purchases to find exactly what I used.  ^^^

The inverter/controller box which powers the EL wire runs directly off a 12volt connector on the coin door interface board (just inside the cabinet near the coin door).

EDIT This: (Includes the On Flashing OFF controller box so you can regulate the wire)

Maybe if you could get them all together to find some common ground... #@#

So with this brand on eBay, it is bright enough to not get washed out by the playfield lighting and mild room lighting?

No probs.

Just to clarify, the TZ pic is one wire looped around all three ramps with the el wire masked off between each ramp, so at 5 metres in length, one set should be enough to cover any single pin easily that I can think of (except perhaps whitewater).  ^^^

Next to get the EL wire ramp treatment will be AFM in lime (alien) green...

I've split the thread so that Pinsanity can continue the topic of EL Mods in it's own thread  ^^^

I have this stuff on my WH20 ramps - pretty easy to install and looks pretty good  ^^^

Here is a quick vid I shot which shows a better effect of the LED wire.

Sorry about the quality, needless to say I am a better modder, than I am a cameraman... #@#

That looks great.  ^^^

How did you fasten the el wire to the wireforms / ramps?

Can you take a photo of the the power supply underneath the playfield with the el wire on to show how you have routed it etc and any tips please.

Hey Nino, What do you reckon about having a dedicated mods section on the forum so people can easily search through that section for items.

Each thread could be listed as a general mod of game specific - Twilight Zone - El Wire Mod

Yes, some more information on how you installed it would be great.

I've contacted the eBay seller and asked for some kit pricing, including one transformer/wall adapter (for testing purposes), with a 5m length of each available color Blue, Green, Red, White, Pink, Purple, Aqua, Lime, Orange.  I'll report back on when I hear from them.  If others are interested, I could place a group buy??

To take things further, add a control circuit into the EL power cabling to flash or blink the EL wire in sync with it's surrounding lamp flashes.
The EL (ramps) can be turned on/off during different stages of the game when jackpots are enabled such as "shoot the ramp" kinda thing.

MM.

Well, it's actually one of my projects/mods that i do, although haven't sat down to complete some easy-install boards for whoever needs them in future, stay tuned.

Definitely count me in for one (green el wire on the back ramps of the creature), and a second unit as a spare for something I am working towards. keep me on a list
