Dave,

It's these 'little things' that really give your old EM new life.

Would be the first time in 42 years that any type of cleaning/rebuilding would of been done on the mechanical parts.

Hope you are enjoying the ride!

Yeh Tony ..that is in fact a large part of my motivation .. breathing new life into a game this old .. I am pretty obessessed with it all now  .. coil stops are not very worn which is a good sign of not a heap of use.

I reckon this game must have lived in a mechanics workshop or something .. it was covered with black grease/grime , even under the playfield where you lift it up

Started thinking my other EM's would sure benefit from this same treatment .. by the way , did you ever overhaul the mechanicals on Spanish Eyes ?

Yeah Spanish Eyes got an overhaul......BUT....

That was 10 - 12 years ago. From memory the playfied got the full treatment but the steppers etc. only got the basics to get it working 100%

Thanks for that Tony .. I'll add her to my overhaul list then .
Was thinking when I finally finish Lady Luck I'll be looking for another project , but now realise I have 3 other EM's here all telling me they want 'the treatment' , let alone my Firepower that is waiting to be fixed, plus all connectors need to be replaced on it.

How will I ever find time to play these games again  :lol

Got another 2 score reel mechs overhauled .
Here is a before and after pic of the 0-9 player 1 unit. Most likely never would have worked with all the crud on the circuit board (they are all like that), but now works a treat . Hard to believe its 41 years old after a cleanup.

Yep - They don't make things like they used to !

Takes time, but once the steppers are rebuilt, the game can be trouble free for years.

Update : Have finally finished overhauling steppers and score reels .
Have cleaned and tested 50/100 switches on the backboard so far.
Still need to clean and test all switches on the playboard and under the playfield .

Today, for something different, I pulled out the lock down bar mech and cleaned it up with the help of some Ranex (great stuff that is) + some elbow grease.

Here's before and after pics of it

Heh, heh, they let you out of Geelong every now and then?

But seriously, the number of times people have had great results with Ranex it must be worth it.

Dave,

Coming along well mate!

Hard to believe they are the same parts. How long did it take for you to get those results?

I used the stuff last week on some rusted legs and was disappointed with the results - after seeing what you achieved I'm wondering what I did wrong  !@#

Hey Tony . Used 3 applications of Ranex , left for 10 mins a time, then scrubbed with a toothbrush, then rinsed .. repeat. Then wiped over with Windex and a rag, then polished with some Brasso .. probably about 45 mins all up. I also tried it on a couple of legs last weekend and had very good results .. one application per leg and followed Nino's method in his thread about removing rust from legs.

My apologies, I had to clear some space of my old webserver. I've moved the pictures and fixed the links ;

Gday all .. thought it was time for a progress update.

I've just placed my 1st order with PBR (a pretty big order too) and most of the parts will be going into this game including:-
Pop Bumpers : New rods/rings, caps, bodies, bases, skirts and spoons
Flippers : New rebuild kit , flipper covers, coils and cabinet switches
New rollover buttons , ball hole kicker covers, coil sleeves and stepper springs and coin door lock.

Now for me thats the easy part .
The next step is the playfield touchups which I've never done before (read a lot though), and would really appreciate your suggestions on best way to do this .

Here are examples of what most of the areas needing touchup work look like now.
The question is do I do this with a very fine brush (to fill the lines missing paint) in the areas where there is artwork (such as the cards etc) and for the areas where it is just one colour with no artwork use a sponge to blend the new paint with the old ?

All the bumpers have a small amount of wear in the varnished area , which I'm not going to worry about , just over with a mylar ring . For this one here will fil in the area of missing paint and the black outline
