Title: "Ghostbusters" mods
Post by: swinks on March 20, 2016, 09:00:14 AM
Thought may as well inform people of some mod ideas.

First one is a cheapie from Canada and you will have to contact Bob via pinside.

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/ghosbusters-little-mod-coin-door-ecto-1-license-plate#post-3042268

It is good cheap one for the coin door - Ecto 1 License plate art magnet.
Cost $10 USD which includes postage to anywhere in the world making it a nice little affordable mod

Or someone in your area could buy a few and share around your mates.

next up is one of mine is a Slimer Topper - 7" Ikon brand.

the slimer statute is a really nicely painted resin sculpture which has a bobble wobble feature above the ghost trap.

http://zingpopculture.com.au/

so head to your local store and grab one for under $60 AUD and they also have a similar Stay Puft version. Then if you want to light it up you can use a custom base I designed that can be screwed down or double sided taped down. Then install some led strips and hook up to a feature or to a GI feature to have on constantly. My apologies about the base cost as not the cheapest but roughly 120 diameter and Shapeways charges on area and space it uses in their printers. The slimer base simple drops into the shapeways part so it can't slide off the top of the backbox. The base also allows you to install led strip (making it hidden from peoples view to add a glow to the sculpture that you can hook up to GI and / or a feature. I plan to have purple connected to GI and Green to a slimer feature on mine. It also has a small section for the wiring to exit cleanly out the back.

Then when you need to fold the backbox down simply lift slimer out of the retaining base and the base stays in place on top of the backbox.

I can't confirm if the Stay Puft fits into the base but could tweak the design and make a different one available if needed.

if you want to hook up powered mods here is a safe way to avoid hacks to boards etc, which I am sure will suit GB as well

I am working on some custom flipper bats that have a benefit of quick release from the top of the playfield so you could go for Ghostbusters PKE flipper bats to regular 3" to 2 7/8" bats to extended 3 1/8" bats to close up the gap as Trudeau likes to have a wider than standard flipper gap of 7 1/8" between flipper posts. These are still in testing and will report back here when available. The GB ones will have an option of fake bulb set as well as possibly leds as the posts are hollow.

Stern's released side armor mods

guessing the green is for the LE but the shape won't match the art - dripping slim and don't think the green suits the pro or premium

Got lots of bagging on pinside but figure most of it is coming from guys not buying gb. The mag slings too. I don't really have an opinion on these except I don't think I'll buy as I'm already paying through the nose for the green side armour already.

I think the green mod rails are too busy for the LE, the green lollipops look good and suit the business cab art

I have been sitting on this mod for a while and finished off the universal mount bracket so this can now be mounted to a side panel or base panel or a overhead panel - with no screws and easily relocatable with no damage. the window is approximately 38mm square with both panels front and back back lit.

pretty sure Stern's just protects the side of the projector but not the glass that the image projects onto which this mod does.

ah I see, now I wonder if it distorts or effects the projected image at all?

apparently like a headlight lens that is curved / domed to drop over the projector and glass that the image is projected on to protect

this isn't really a visible enhancement mod, but is a modification to the game and hopefully helps people. I had the left hand scoop snap over the weekend after 2 months / 450 plays and documented else where and thought to share it here as well for those that may have a issue down the track. AMD are supplying a new one under warranty but this bought me time as had friends over and allowed the game to be played.

Ghostbusters Target Wedges
Finally got the parts back and did some final testing for a solution to the air balls off the X2 & X3 targets on the Ghostbusters pinball.
Basically the Stern targets are dead vertical and when hit bend back beyond the vertical which then allows the ball to go into the air. Bally / WMS targets leaned forward, so I devised a simple wedge that can be inserted into the existing Stern target assembly. This wedge now leans the target 4 degress forward from vertical and has been effective in stopping the massive airballs. I still get the random minor ball hop but has improved the design of the target and decreased the problem alot. You will need 1 wedge per target. You will also have to source 1 x 1/8" longer bolt for the target assembly as there just isn't enough thread once the wedge is installed.
 https://www.shapeways.com/…/stern-pinball-target-wedge-4-de… (https://www.shapeways.com/product/E4WLPL9E2/stern-pinball-target-wedge-4-degree-single)
you will need 1 wedge and one 1/8" longer bolt / screw per target

all the target wedge sets purchased were sent out yesterday to those that ordered / bought them and have 2 sets spare if anyone wants a set.

some people in the US said they got by with the existing bolts and others said they needed the next size up from a 5/8" long (in which I did) - so you will need 1 off 6/32 x 3/4 bolt for each target.

I edited a picture that hopefully helps those that need it. I do admit that during the time waiting for refined wedges I installed 1/16" thick white double sided tape (near my thumb) behind the target to firm up the target and reduce the bend back and possible launch of the ball. Then when the wedges came I installed and didn't think to share that minor detail - sorry.

basically 2 install locations

Location 1 - brings the backing plate closer to the switch making it a little more sensitive. Adding the small piece of double sided tape will firm the switch up and reduce the effect of the ball getting airborne. I am playing with this set up and still get the odd minor air ball but not shooting over plastics and lanes etc and the switch is not as sensitive as original so not a given shot.

Location 2 - keeps the switch standard sensitivity but will still allow the target to tilt forward and when hit to bend back to a 90 degree position and possibly allow the ball to get airborne. Adding the tape will firm up and keep the ball / target at less than 90 degrees when hit and should be a improvement on airborne balls.

Hello there my good fellas. Wanted to clear up the ecto goggle lens mod questions.  The stern metal plate just protectes the screen from side air balls and in no way protects the actual glass on the ecto goggle assembly. My mod wraps around the front fully protecting the glass without interfering with the hologram.  If you guys want to go in on a group purchase and save on shipping let me know.

We also.have green and pink slime rivers back in stock and ecto goggle headset mod will be completed in June.

thanks for the post. Can you please advise as I have a small issue with the hood. Because it is only attached in 2 places I am finding the hood is slowly raising like a visor on a helmet. Each time it is hit I suppose it is being pushed upwards. Is there a fix or have you addressed this by having it fixed in more places
