hi all imnew to this sight as of today i have a pinball machine that has not seen the light of day for 20 years thought i would get it out of storage for my COD addicted 13 year old really not sure where to start backglass is gone everthing else seems fine i havnt turned it on yet (have a little mice nest ) and still havnt taken the glass off i did a search and this is the machine i have http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=3974

Welcome.
The very first thing you need to do is open up the headbox and identify every board - what it does and where it is located.
The second thing you need to do is make sure the backup battery is chopped off the MPU board OR chop it off yourself - RIGHT NOW!
This battery is the single most common 'killer' of the MPU (main computer board) in these machines.
If you are in doubt take some pics, put them up here and there will be plenty of members able and willing to help.

good advice from Mike. ^^^ its a rare machine with only 150 made.
did u play this as a kid ? what is the machines history etc.? Youve' had it for 20 years in storage by your PM. That might have been a good thing, less use etc.
Depending on where u live, there are a few members who specialise in doing full restorations to make machines live to see another day properly for a long time etc. ^^^

It looks very clean - excellent!
The printed circuit board that is top leaft Is the main computer board (MPU) and in the centre at the bottom of that board is a blue battery pack - this has obviously been replaced from the original but even so, do yourself a favor and cut it off right now and bin it - the repairs and the reason will become obvious to you in time.
Well done - it certainly looks like a 'repairer' to me.

if you could take a close up photo of the battery area on the MPU board and upload it to where your other photos are.
the battery is the little blue thing at the bottom centre on the top left board. (as home pin has stated) I just want to see if there is any acid damage

listen very carefully to guys like homepin and beaky these guys are very clever with boards, and having had beaky rebuild boards for me, if you neeed boards worked on he is the guy.
very interesting machine by the way, only 150 made, thats something we dont see all the time

A conversion of Bally Supersonic. Not a bad player at all. I would check all the fuse values on the rectifier board - which is the board mounted above the transformer.
It would be a European conversion, so it should run on 240V, but you will need to change the plug. An electrician can do this for you.

It looks quite good - some elbow grease and a little TLC on the connectors and you might have a goer!
The MPU 'looks' OK butyou really do nead to have a critical (close) inspection of the board for corrosion around the blue battery - corrosion here CAN write the entire board off so better to correct that before doing anything else IMO.
There are some very well known 'issues' with this era of machine (basically it is an early solid state (SS) Bally but most issues are easy to sort out.
You should have an interesting learning experience getting it all sorted - there is a wealth of knowledge on this site and many who will be willing to tell you where to go (in a nice way) for parts etc.

is that a mouse nest on the playfield??? id pul lthat glass off and remove that stuff asap. and give it a wipe over. love to see what the playfeild looks like with out the glass on.

A fairly large file here (might mean OK quality) scan of the backglass, maybe can be printed in good enough quality for a replacement?

The backglass images are from that "Never Ending Story" movie from the 80's.

I remember the ads for that movie driving me crazy, it did seem "Never Ending".

Battery area looks fine. just cut the battery off as per home pin's post.
has it ever pluged in, in Australia? does it have an Australian 3 pin plug on it?

Yes it does have a australian plug it was working when we put it in to storage, i haven't turned it on yet because of the mice nest.

U are lucky the little bastards didnt chew a few hundred wires. @.@
I think rats/or mice in a pinball machine are a pinball collectors ABSOLUTE WORST CASE NIGHTMARE.
Good luck with the machine. Looks like it shld clean up well. ^^^
