Title: Show us your ride!
Post by: ktm450 on March 24, 2009, 06:11:36 PM
Following up on a previous thread, it seems a lot of guys here have a range of nice cars, I've seen Nicks little beast, I know Matthew has a nice car, Mark has the monaro, so does Daniel.
So I thought I'd start a thread for everyone to post some pics of their rides (keep it clean no pics of your missus *)* )

Here is an old pic of my shed...

Got rid of the GSXR as we had our first son, and I knew I was going to kill myself on it as I couldn't help myself pushing it harder and harder round the great ocean rd.
My wife still has the R6 but I went back to the dirtbikes (I used to ride when I was younger and enjoy getting muddy ripping up the bush more), here is a pic of the KTM with the dirt rims off and the motard wheels I machined up for it on...

And here is a pic of my 1977 SS Torana, I have owned for 13 years, it was my first car...

Oh man, that Torana looks so cool. You win!

I owned an original SL/R 5000 in the early 1980s - she had a 327 Chev dropped in and I couldn't hold it on the road - and she also did the best burn out.

Thanks for posting - brings back sooooo many great memories!

here's a couple of shots of mine at the Geelong Speed Trials (I won my class that year I think). Also one of my car taken in the mid-60's with it's original owner at the wheel.

Great Torana Ktm Me and my old man are doing up a hatchback torana at the moment has a Fuel injected 5l and a 5 speed in it just need to do the paint.

And nick thats so cool specially to see it back in the day not just a modern day slap together job

And Matt both yours are sweet rides.

The old man has a few cars tucked away out his place that a few might appreciate if you want to see pics let me know
He has the Torana Hatch, 2 x 68 Pontiacs (one original one being done), 31 a model Roadster pickup (original) 25 chev tourer (original), 38 chev pickup (being rodded), hr prem and other holdens.    Toghether we have built some cool cars my all time favorite i've attached a picture of sadly no longer in the collection.

WOW

Nice rides in there guys ! Mine is not finished yet - it is having the motor rebuilt. It is a project that Dad and I have been working on (his car since new). He smashed it in 1975 and we started to restore it 4 years ago. Nearing the finish line - More photos later (maybe even a restore thread) !

It is a 1962 VW Karmann Ghia. Dad picked it off the Assembly line, Drove it from Germany to Italy and had it shipped out to Australia in 1962.

Just to give you an idea - The rubbers and seals ALONE cost US$1500.

Dad MADE the carpets to original specs. They are no longer available. The nose badge alone is NOS and cost US$96.

Should be finished next month !

Nino, that VW looks absouletly pristine...what a great looking car.  Must admit I dont think I have seen one before.  Are there many around or are they rare?

Thats sweet as Nino
I have always disliked VW beetles but always loved the Karmann Ghias and that looks fantasic. Looks like we will have to have a pinball and car show once we get all our toys finished
Title: Re: Show us your ride!
Post by: Strangeways on March 24, 2009, 09:39:27 PM

Dean - They are becoming rare and are a collector's car these days. I do see them occasionally driven around in various conditions, and there are some magnificent restored Karmanns owned by collectors that are only ever seen at shows. This particular car has a Serial number that is part of the USA run in 1961, but is is not a conversion. That in itself has "raised the eyebrows" of the collectors. It is quite unique.

Dad still has the original invoice. BTW - he did most of the work - not me ! But I've been an enthusiastic assistant. I am inspecting the rebuilt motor tomorrow and I might add some pictures. I'm no car enthusiast, but working on these cars has taught me to appreciate the effort that REAL car enthusiasts (like the guys on this thread) go to for their cars.

I saw a Falcon station wagon like yours (but white) the other day in a shopping centre car park, an elderly man and his wife were in the car about to leave so I went up to the window and congratulated the two of them on such a fine automobile, I think they were pretty chuffed. I would love to have been alive when only these classic cars were on the road and driving a car made of plastic was unheard of.

Thanks,It had a respray some years before I bought it,other than that and the wheels, she is original ,I bought this from the 18 year old son of my boss, just in time as he was about to do all sorts of modifications to it,not that mods on some cars are bad,but when you find an xy in as original condition as this it`s a shame to change it.

Heres some pics of the Escort panelvan i had a bout seven years ago... wish i never sold it sometimes.. especially as the guy who bought it trashed it !!!

This had a "from the ground up" rebuild, worked 2 litre motor that kicked arse!! originally i had a 45mm sidedraught Weber carby on it but an RTA defect notice meant it had to go (replaced with a 38mm carb from a V6 capri), as did the loud exhaust :lol , XA GT falcon bonnet scoops front and rear spoilers, retrimmed interior, power windows etc etc.

I even had this car in "Hot 4s & performance cars" magazine (readers rides section).. And YES i did cart the odd pinball in it.. Before it was done up mostly

Here is my money pit, a 1965 Lincoln Continental.

I am just building a new motor, the original was 430 cu in (7 litre) and I am just about to start on the new 510 cu in (8.7 litre)fuel injected motor.

So far all I have done is lowered in 3 inches all round and put on the 22" 150 spoke wires wheels.

My mate also pinstriped the car for me.

I will  start to strip the car down after I have built the motor for paint, which will be a white roof with a candy blue lower section.

I purchased the car from San Fransisco in 2004 and had it on the road for a year before pulling the motor out.

Cheers Angelo

Nice charger, big $$$ now

Yeah the charger was a fun car to drive, if only it was the 426 hemi, would have been worth mega $, still a much sort after car with the 440 magnum & original drive train.
However this car was heavily modified.
Scored a top 20 at the 1991 summernats & featured a cover in hey charger & pro street back in it's day.
450 rwhp, had a wild nascar idle & would light up the micky thompsons at will.
Certainly not an everyday driver, but an absolute hoot to pull out of the garage every now & then & release the tension  !*!

I bought this car a 1998 Ford Futura from the government auctions in 2001 for $14700. I modified her to this state and she's still going, these pic's were taken about 1 month ago.

Cool....I owned an original SL/R 5000 in 1982....had worked for 4 years and saved and also was buying and selling pins at that time.

Was in Year 12 at a Catholic Collage and can still remember doing massive burnouts out of school most days....

Will dig out some pix over the next few days and scan and post.

What was even cooler was my Dad was Principle of Wollongong TAFE at the time and had the entire car go through 'the system' at TAFE - had a 327 fully rebuilt and dropped in, 4W discs, 2" dual exhaust, full A9X kit installed, all new original SL/R 5000 interior installed, fully resprayed, Saginaw (sp?) 4 speed fully rebuilt and was all done - and it cost me NOTHING.

Was one of the coolest Toranas I have ever seen - sold it to some dude in Canberra about 6 months later for a few reasons:

Couldn't keep it on the road as it had too much grunt
The Cops pulled me over ALL THE F*CKING TIME
Couldn't leave the car anywhere for a few minutes as peopke would want to check it out etc.

I dont have photo of her, but a AMC Rambler Rebel was my ride at 17 years of age. It used to float along the road, and could do great burn-outs after I put a Holley on it. I gave that car hell, wrecked the brakes and sold it to bunch of indigenous guys. They turned-up and said "does it go?" I said yep, and off they went leaving me with a wad of cash. Mine was blue, but like this:

Had a few "hotties" over the years, HK GTS Monaro- originally 307 with opel 4 speed converted to 350 with muncie M21, HG GTS Monaro- originally 308 with trimatic ended up being 350 with turbo 400 and nitrous oxide.
 E37 Valiant Charger.
Have a 1956 Humber SuperSnipe now for a toy.
Gave up fast cars when they made speeding illegal, but now, years later, I have just bought a Holden VY SS Series II Ute.
Pics later when I can find them.....

My dream car... a 1990s vintage Ford Ranger

Actually, this truck is just something I saw at a recent parade... nothing I have any real interest in, but was good for a chuckle. Poor abused truck!

This is my 'daily driver', a 1995 Ford Thunderbird Supercoupe

It's a somewhat unique model around here, Ford made about 5000 Supercoupes in 1995 with automatic transmissions, and about 500 with 5 speed manual. I would love to have a manual trans Supercoupe, but I've yet to come across one.

It's not all that exotic or expensive, and I haul 2 kids in it regularly.

2 more payments, and the red car is all MINE

And my pin hauler... acquired this for $400 with a load of pins from an operator

Im hoping that this will be my next ride... just down the road from me and i REALLY want it - although a rocket ship one would be better. Price is too high and ill be emailing at auction end to do the seller a favour and take it off his hands for a pittance ( well close to!)

My Supercoupe is on the way out. At around 200k, it's got so many leaks, squeaks, rattles and noises, it's just had enough. If the paint were good, I'd fix them all - but it would cost more than a nice, low mileage Supercoupe to repaint it - so I moved on to something else I could get reasonably and enjoy.

The new set of wheels:

1997 Volvo 850R Wagon
Around 100k miles
2.3 liter 5 cylinder, turbocharged
Relatively rare beast, Volvo only made a few thousand of these worldwide and the R model was only made in 96 and 97.

I acquired it from my folks, it was their spare car for years, and sat and got neglected. In the last couple months, I've done water pump, timing belt, idler pulleys, plugs and wires, rebuilt the ABS module, replaced the gears in the speedometer (lube turned to varnish, and one of the gears got chewed up), new speakers all around to replace the original ones that were bad, and done a TON of cleaning. I've got a factory spoiler to go on as soon as I acquire a new front bumper cover, to replace the damaged one. A small animal in the roadway did the original one in more than 10 years ago. I'm getting ready to re-do the PCV system as it's supposed to be serviced every 100,000 miles and mine is overdue.

Volvo makes a great car. Once u sit in one and drive one, u realise how well engineered and designed they are, plus they are very fast.

I assume u can fit a pinball in the back with your seats down. Well done. I like wagons. Good for everything.
