Title: APR Container Due in mid June
Post by: Strangeways on June 05, 2013, 10:38:37 PM
I'm excited to announce the first container for 2013. These games have been hand picked from collections, rather than picked up from Ex Operator's submerged storage buildings overseas  ^&(

As most of you know, my preference is collectible games from the 70's and 80's and the majority of these titles are from that era. Rather than list the inventory, I'm going to post pictures of them in the container, and members can guess the list of titles ! Obviously, there are NINE Bally Nip-Its.

Some of these games are already reserved by collectors that have asked me to track down some of the rarer titles. Some of these are going straight into my personal collection. As an example, there is a HUO Fireball - and this game has taken me 20 years to track down (I only wanted HUO).

Here are the pics.. YOU list the inventory  *%*

That's right Mike. Everyone imports DMD containers and the market is saturated. Having said that, I hope they keep coming. I target rare and interesting games and also customer requests. Funnily enough, most requests are EMs or SS.

There are really only 2 DMD games. Some of the others are rare Bally / Midways and a Data East.

I've had a few PMs regarding the games and rather than go into too much detail, I'd like to mention that I cannot provide pricing until the games have landed and I've worked out the expenses first. All the games will need to be unpacked and matched and then I will take photos and provide condition reports. I don't sell games "as is", unless I have multiples, as that removes the enjoyment of restoration for me !

But I am keeping a record of the expressions of interest, and I will contact each member after I've looked at the respective machine.

I would have thought there were a few more games that members would have picked out from the pictures  #@#

These will be landing middle of next week.

Here is the final list of games.

"Reserved" games are machines that I've located for members, or that members have asked me to hold since I started this thread. It will take at least a week before I can start to go through these machines "one by one", so please be patient while I take photos and provide condition reports. The container will be delivered next week if there are no other delays.

Title: Container Day !
Post by: Strangeways on June 13, 2013, 02:05:25 PM

At 8:00 AM this morning my container arrived, and it took us an hour to empty 54 machines. All of them are still wrapped and I will need to unwrap and access each game. I will start with reserved games for AP members, but please be patient, as I'm really busy with other work and I've badly sprained my thumb while unloading. So I won't get to these games until earliest next week.

Please be patient, I am severely "under the pump" !

Here is the container arrival ;

Open the door and nothing has moved ! A couple of additional games were thrown in before it left.

The storage building is seriously filling up !

The latest arrivals are on the left side of the building, previous container games on the right. This building is full. I might be able to fit another 10 games. There are 150 games in this building.  :D :D

Very happy at the moment, but my thumb is absolutely killing me !

Thanks for the kind words - and the thumb is a bit sore, but I will live..

I consider myself VERY VERY fortunate with this haul. I have my work cut out, but I'm up for the challenge. The games all arrived safely, and I can't wait to start unpacking. The Bally EMs are really nice, a lot better than I expected. The Bally / Midway games look very good as well. As I spend time on them, I'll know more. I can't wait to unpack Fireball, but I'll have to wait until my hand is better. I'm very content right now and I think I'll have to have an early night..

Good to hear the latest haul arrived safely Nino . Shame about the thumb but its a temporary inconvenience .

Thanks for posting the pics , certainly not something you see every day .
An original Star Trek is very tempting for me but I will try very hard to resist as I already have more pins than room as it is.  :lol

I remember removing some jukeboxes and pool tables to make room good to see that's long gone.

Congrats on the save arrival on safe arrival of what is undoubtedly an awesome haul of machines.

With so many machines in the storage shed, is there any chance that you will be selling any as is project type machines?

Not unless it is someones "Holy Grail", or a duplicate title. I often get requests for older games, and some of these fill those requests. Some members ask me to locate and sell "as is" - which I will do, but I don't usually sell other games "as is" for two key reasons ;

1 - It takes the enjoyment of restoration away from me  !!!
2 - I don't want to be put into the same category as "Container Importers"   *.*

My Business model works on restoration, and I source my own games to restore. Technically, I am a "container importer", as so was my father in the 50's. But I don't want a reputation for providing "cheap" project games to newbies that expect working games. In my experiences, this will cause issues with reputation. I am in the Business of restoration because I LOVE the work. The more machines in storage, the more choices people have.

I have targeted older games, because there is demand for the classics, and historically, the standards of older games have been very low.

Blair - if there is something you are looking for, or something you would like - PM me. I have more overseas.

This building is just a storage building. It was where the remainder of my Father's Amusement Business' assets were left. Imagine the "warehouse Finds" that you hear of in the USA. This was the Aussie equivalent. Originally, under all the video arcade junk, there were KISS', Playboys, Star Treks, Paragon, Space Invaders and around another 30 games which I restored and sold 10-15 years ago. I kept the KISS' etc and they are part of my collection, or inventory.

This building is only temporary until I buy a factory in the Northern Suburbs. There are a few hoops to go through before then, but then will be moved to that location and all set up. I work from my Garage, which I converted into a workshop when this was just a hobby. But I've quickly filled it with customer games and restorations.

Great to hear the Genie is going strong. I'm going to start a full restoration on the last of the three I had shortly !

So you are the one Hans was talking about.......
He sold the biggest collection to "some guy" in Australia, but regreted it and bought a Nip It back the next week after he realised he had no more EM games.
Hans was at my Pinball tournament on last may 18 and told me about this.
Great guy and always talking about the games.
I promised to go to his place sometime in my vacation to help him fix some more games.
Good to see the games getting a good new home and don't end up on a landfill.

He is one of the nicest people you could meet, and hopefully I will be visiting him next year - maybe in time for your next tournament. I will be bringing my toolkit to help him with his games  *%*

Next time you speak with him, ask him about some of the stories of these machines  ^^^
