Explain your username!
« on: May 04, 2011, 06:17:28 PM »
I thought it might be interesting if people explained their usernames
Some are obvious, some, less so

I shall go first

For years I went by the user name ‘TheManFromPOST’
Great for anonymity, but not very personal

I then decided to use my real name in some manner, but also have a reference to pinball, so, ‘Pop Bumper Pete’ was born

Fun topic Pete!

One day soon after starting to collect I was trying to join the pinmame forum. Just made up what came to mind - "Pinnies for me" was what I was chasing those days, so that was it, and been using that since.
“If you wanna escape, go up to a pinball machine. There’s a magic button on the front that takes you to a world under the glass and makes the the rest of the universe disappear.”

Mine is , well Chris obviously plus the model number of one of my favourite Ferraris of all time the 288GTO of which only about 271 were made.

I love all Ferrraris but this model was a pure balls out racer built for the road, with a twin turbo charged V8 and a top speed of about 320 KPH, for me it was the epitomy of 1980's decadence and over the top style.

There have been faster cars made since but certainly none as pretty as this one.

Mine came about from a friend of a friend, who came up with the word "pinbologist" meaning someone who fixes/restores pins. And from that my mate Martin, who owns the Galaxy cab i painted as well as the Wildfyre pf i documented on here, started calling me Mr Pinbologist  :lol so i thought that would be a cool username for me on AP  :D well i thought it had a better ring to it than my own name which i originally used when i joined  :D

Lately though, since i bought my Cosmic Princess pin, and because he has wanted that title for a while he has taken to calling me "BASTARD"  %.% %.% %.% %.%

"Strangeways" is actually From the KISS Song "Strange Ways" written by Ace Frehley (my favorite Guitarist of all time).

I had a passionate dislike for grunge in the early 90's and everytime I heard the story that "Nirvana invented grunge", I would quote both "strange ways" and "Goin' Blind" were recorded on the "Hotter than Hell" album while Nirvana were in nappies. There was a Nirvana fan that once challenged me on "the first grunge song in history", and after listening to "strange ways", two things happened -

He agreed that "Strange Ways" was indeed the "first grunge song recorded", and that he would call me "strangeways" from that day onwards.

It is also one of my very favorite guitar solos of ANY song, and many modern day guitarists (Marty Friedman, James Hetfield, Bruce Kulick) credit the solo as one of the best solos ever recorded.

Original Album Version (solo at 2:25)

Megadeth Cover

Ahh to be young again..

The only "Pinball" related name I ever had is quite funny. Dad used to maintain his pins while wearing a distinctive grey dustcoat. The young punks used to call him "Professor" - Coat and white hair.  He used to drag me EVERYWHERE he went when I was young, and the punks used to ask Dad - "Hey Professor, who's that young guy. Your "apprentice" ?

So I was just known as the "Professor's Apprentice".
