Hey guys in a little but excited tomorrow I go to collect my 1978 United Pompeii shuffle alley machine for my collection.
I've always wanted one of these but never seen one for sale so a massive massive thankyou to Dave (Silverball) for thinking of me and my unusual collection.
Ill post some photos tomorrow once it's in my possession
-
Awe man, you have the best toys!! This is the bowling lane sort of thing, isn't it?
-
Yes Nick it is but instead of a ball it uses a puck.
It's about 9foot long and has 6 players won't know more till I pick it up tonight
-
Sounds great! Looking forward to game mate.....
-
Nice pick up mate... love the shuffles and have one of my own coming too!
Heres the flyer for the Pompeii

Well I made it home with the game in one piece well kind of 4 pieces lol.
I won't be putting this one back together for another couple of weeks yet but ill post pictures of it in pieces
The guy I bought it of bought it 15years ago in New York. Moved it all over America then to Australia and the whole time it's never worked.... He didnt even know it had batteries till I told him lol.
Really nice bloke wish i had some more time to stay and chat but with two hours drive I had to go.
Game came with a set of new pins new rubber and even a can of shuffle wax for the lanes but the best part is the original manual && Stay tuned for some photos
-
Grats Daniel
Looking forward to some pics of this shuffle game, very cool.
-
Yeh... for chrissakes... post some bloody pictures!
-
Ok guys here you go...
Sadly its been painted black but shouldnt be to hard to repaint
-
^^^
Worst part is the power wiring runs the ength of the alley so im unable to plug it in until its bolted back together so i guess ill just have to be patient
-
Too cool mate!! Love it! #*#
-
Awesome!
-
Well done mate - that's an interesting new toy.
-
That thing is friggin' Massive
HUO? %.%
-
Nice pickup mate!
-
i know i wasnt supposed to start on it but i couldnt help myself here it is bolted together
-
And im pretty happy ive been able to remove most of the black paint without destroying the original paint so i can make some stencils ready for respray $#$
-
Awesome, that monaro will never fit in the shed now :lol
-
Thats a massive toy Daniel . Good to see you were able to reveal the original artwork
-
A quick video in action. Still has a couple of minor issues.
-
That is so cool ^^^
-
Decided I'd make good use of the 4 days off. Hopefully get this thing resprayed back to original (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/29/3yvehesy.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/29/y5a2ugy7.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/29/ahasy8a9.jpg)
-
Had a few problems along the way but its now blue. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/30/y7unudap.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/30/yra6e9a5.jpg)
-
LOl-so is the driveway.
-
Yep driveway is blue better than spraying in the shed covering everything with overspray like I usually do
-
Looks good Daniel . Looking forward to seeing how your stencils turn out
-
Well guys I've finished one side and I'm not that thrilled with the result.
I've spoken to Gav about him drawing me up some stencils but thought I'd get some opinions before wasting hours of gavs time.
Here is a photo of the original and my attempt what does everyone think does it look shit or am I just being to fussy????(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/31/uqepusy6.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/31/y9arytup.jpg)
-
Looks great to me, nice work mate ^^^
-
Daniel, a job very well done. 1 milion percent better.
-
Im struggling to see the problem.. looks good to me
-
Maybe I'm just being to fussy!!!! In going out for lunch ill take another look when I get back from a distance not from masking distance..

Mate - looks fine to me. Keep in mind, that when these were in production, a brass plate (stencil) was hung in front of the cab and the painting was all done in 5-10 minutes. It was so quick and nasty back then - mis registered, wrong colours, overspray and underspray - all these mistakes add to the character. Here we are, 40 years later spending 20-30 hours doing something that originally took a few minutes !
Looks great Daniel ^^^
-
Looks good to me also, you ARE being too fussy. %.%
Not that that's a bad thing. ^^^
-
Thanks guys after walking away for a few hours it really didnt look that bad I've started on the other side now so see how it goes. On question do they make decent masking tape anymore?? Stuffed if I can find any
-
Well I almost got this section finished this weekend. Cabinet is resprayed just didn't get time to finish the wooden surround. Oh well it's looking way better than the shitty black someone painted it.

-
Huge difference mate - well done !
-
Nice job Daniel . Looks great ^^^

Well while I was off sick from work I had time to sort through some of my photos and found a few for this thread.
I've now stained the heads surround still needs a couple of coats but is unbelievably close to the original which I'm very happy about. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/10/very9ede.jpg)
Also started on the pin mechs. Took a while to bring myself to pull them apart but are far more simple than I first thought. One down 9 to go lol
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/10/5azusazu.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/10/ha7uhyny.jpg)
-
Also have the pin panel almost ready to reassemble with the pins once there all done.

-
It's coming up very nicely Daniel.
-
*%* looking good
-
Well not a huge update but I did manage to get all 10 pin mechs stripped cleaned rebuilt and Mounted back on the base. Now I just need to fit the new pins.
If tomorrow gives me a couple of hours hopefully ill get them mounted and ill get the clear coat on the head surround then that entire section is finished.
-
Nice job there Daniel ^^^
-
Finally got the new pins installed which makes a huge difference.
I've also got a coat of gloss clear on the headbox surround hopefully dries enough for another coat tonight(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/13/u5aqydaj.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/13/tytuguju.jpg)
-
Wow the new pins look awesome you've done a great job must be fun to play?
Peter
-
Well that's it the head section is finished. I think I'm going to put it backtogether until the next long weekend before attempting to paint the lane section

-
Well I've made a start on the alley section of the shuffle alley.
I've removed as much of the black paint as I can. I've glued and screwed any loose joints and filled any screw and nail holes hopefully tomorrow ill get it all sanded back and primed (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/24/9u5ugase.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/24/epymu4am.jpg)
-
Got the alley primed painted and stenciled today and hopefully tomorrow ill get the rails stripped and stained then a nice thick coat of 2pak clear. The new rubbers have been ordered so hopefully by the end of the weekend ill have it backtogether and playable just ready for the rubbers.
-
Well I got the rails sanded and can see why they were laminated cheapest shittiest wood ever. One side looked like it was made from a completely different type of wood lol.
I've given it a coat of the stain which I'm not happy with the results so tomorrow ill give it another coat and see how it looks. If it still doesn't improve I'm going to paint them mission brown like I did the underside of the rails.
I'd prefer the timber look but if it looks patchy and crap I do t really have a choice.
Also cleaned up the door which came up pretty well(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/26/puju5u4y.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/26/a3ebunup.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/26/u9uma6az.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/26/tybuda6y.jpg)
-
She's coming together really well Daniel . Door looks great too ^^^.

Well it's almost finished just waiting on the new rubbers from Marcos and its done.
Gave the alley a polish with the special cleaning wax then sprinkled with the shuffle wax and its amazing how fast te steel puck moves can't wait to see it with new bouncy rubbers.
Hope u have enjoyed the rebuild.

Well I demolished the whole shed today to get this monster in its final resting place pool tables are not designed to be moved by 1 person lol.
All that hardwork is almost completely covered now once it's in the lineup but atleast I know it's done (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/05/05/dadu5eha.jpg)
-
Well done Daniel it looks great in the line up. Your right to, doesn't matter that its half covered up, at least you know that its done right. Nice shed to by the way, I love the Countdown on the wall and the bowling pin on the Strikes and Spares.
