Title: Cleaning/polishing medium sized metal parts
Post by: DSB on August 11, 2013, 06:34:34 PM
Hi Guys, I am restoring an Addams family machine at the moment and wanted to get some ideas on how best to clean/polish medium sized metal parts on and under the playfield such as the flipper base plates etc. I have cleaned them with basically water and detergent which has made a big difference but was hoping to return some of their shine if possible. Are tumblers good for this? Also any ideas on removing the rust from the ball non return flaps would be appreciated. I have hopefully attached some example pictures to this post. !@#

I used ranex from Bunnings for the flap problem and put it in a tumbler. Came up perfect.

The ball arch parts - clean with water and windex. Dry and place in tumbler.

Flipper plate assemblies - if rusted - clean with ranex and a green scotchbrite pad. If not rusted - try a light clean with Green scotchbrite, then Red scotchbrite and then gray scotchbrite. Use windex as a lubricant.

Thanks for the tips. Any suggestions on the best polishing medium for the tumbler?
