Title: QUALITY coax cable required
Post by: Retropin on February 15, 2014, 02:47:12 PM
Its the simplest things that can be the most irritating?

I need about 1 metre of RG6 coax but I need the shield to be copper braid NOT aluminium. The braid for this requirement needs to be solder connection which is why the aluminium stuff is no good.. I cant find it anywhere unless im willing to buy 100 meters.
Jaycar etc only sell the cheap aluminium stuff.
The high end TV connections may be copper braid but im not sure without snipping the ends off as all come with connectors already..

Can anyone enlighten me?

Try audio/music shop. As in instruments went to my local store for work I was amazed with what stock they had.

Cheers everyone..
Studley.. what size is RG52? Cant find a reference for it. I only chose RG6 as it is 7mm cable which fits the compression fitting on one end

I did this option after finding Jaycar and the other usual suspects don't carry anything of decent quality.

Most of them stock a range of "raw" coax (without the connectors attached) so you just pick what you need and get them to make a custom cable for you.

what is the application?

Goes from opto multiplier valve to valve amp.. the shield is soldered to 2 of the pins on opto multiplier and then run to amp.
the Bunnings stuff is all aluminium shield.. just rubbish..

.. ill do the music shops for something decent..

Quad shield RG6 is not rubbish at all. It's simply not suitable for what you need.
