Remember when everything was fluoro, you skated everywhere and we all sounded like dumb Surfies? ( well some of us still do ) ^^^ Yep the 80s. CLASSIC.
I was very lucky to score this AWESOME project pin to play with over the coming months/weeks/years.
Since you can't get NOS play fields or plastics for this old girl any more I would ask if any one has a nice RADICAL to email me direct with a HIGH RES picture of the lower play field only, it is fingered and down to wood and will be touched up and clear coated by me, *%* just like I did Dr Dude.
So my first step is to get her working 100% and give her a good clean, remove and fix up ramps ( probably flame polish), re rubber and fit some new LED,s which I have had forever as I knew I was getting this one some time ago, thanks to you know who.
I would like to fix the outer cabinet which is in excellent condition also as I want this one inside ASAP. The play field will take ages so I want everyone over here to enjoy taking her for a spin first.
Any hoo, here are a few pics to start with. Powered here up yesterday and plays actually quite well considering.

And this is the offensive down to wood lower play field, hopefully some one can send me high res pics for future reference IPDB is to low of resolution as I need to zoom in quite close.
thanks again.

yep I remember those days, cruising the streets on the skateboard looking for hills and cool driveways - over here we were known as beach bums.
cool game, would love one one day - nice ramps
for a hi res image, register at vp forum as then you can download playfield scans and hopefully they have a radical.

Thanks brother.

Nice score. A theme close to my own old skool heart. Hurts a lot more now when I hit the concrete!! #@#
-
I had one of these a mate imported from the USA a few years ago.
This one was in absolute mint condition and a cracker of a game to play. A very under rated title...
-
This game lives up to it's name. An absolute CRACKER of a player. I look forward to the restoration thread - this will be worth the work.
-
A great pick up!! I love this game - so fast, lots of shots, even the left ramp which is a bit close works well, wish I could find one to play locally, only played this a few years ago for a couple of games and was hooked. Look forward to seeing the restoration.
-
Played it this arvo - even in the unrestored state it's a fun game.
Some of the call outs are seriously NAF, but that's about my only complaint.
Another outre game in the locker for the Big Lebowski . . . .

Whooooaaaa! GNARLY. game over Dude #*# best game ever

$#$ sometimes ya just got to smile after having a win. Thanks to Gibo, I had done a trade with him some months back and finally picked up my booty today. A Radical play field which I will tickle up like I did with Dr Dude, light box panel and bits a box full of left over crap. This was a very, very bad donor Radical that was earmarked for disposal. SCORE.
Will start my restore thread again soon.

Love this game. Such an unknown gem
-
All games except one have had SERIOUS playfield wear. Very hard to find this title in good condition. Best of luck with it - you are off to a good start.
-
WHEN everything was flouro??... WHEN??... Havent you seen those ghastly RGB LED's???
Nice pick up BTW... great player of a game
-
FLUORO ROCKS DUDE, system 11 is an absolute ball tearer era. The pinnacle for my age group.
Original themes with some ground breaking ideas.
This era is also king of call outs!
-
Very cool, I've never seen one let alone played one but I love the theme and the layout looks good. I'll look forward to more pics and the Resto thread! ^^^

Start the cleaning today while getting my new foster dog use to my weird hobbies.
Mylar removal by low eat and slight mention pulling a bit at a time, didn't lose to many deals.
Flour is then thrown onto play field to show where the glue is and then I use orange cleaner to soak and then rub off. This is done several times with a wax comb used to pick up the bilk of glue in between cleans.
Under neath is sanded to make it look a little prettier, not too fussed with that though.
Will then leave to dry properly after using Shellite to clean up any residue.
All guide rails and wire looms are thrown in the dishwasher, never done this before.
-
flour trick
-
Holy Batman - wire looms in the dishwasher?? How do you seal the ends before they go in?

Ha ha, I dont, just give em a good shake when finished %$%
Shake all that electricity out of it first though %.%

Give the underneath a nice, sand scrub and removed the T-Nuts today, followed by 2 coats of clear gloss( out the can). Still undecided on wether to keep the inserts or replace so I used a syringe to fill with water to stop the clear sticking to the critical part. Don't know if this has been done before, but it worked a treat ^^^
This is just to make it a little prettier. Will leave this for a day or two, then start giving the play field a good scrub and clear also. Then start the artwork( this will be fun ) @.@

The water in the inserts is a great idea, very handy trick

Finally, FINALLY getting my mojo back and started working with a new airbrush kit ( AWESOME )
Have done block coats by hand with a brush to build up where ball wear was gnarly!
In this pic you see I have finished the blonde/yellow and the light blue on main ramp. Taped up is the orange ready to spray.
SO very far to go, but hey, what ya gonna do?
Threw in a picture of my surfy mates and my new furry f**ker enjoying the fruits of my labour ( they don't get being a pin freak ) but sure enjoy thrashing them!
Good weather is upon us here in WA. ^^^
-
few more colours done, matching the fluoro is impossible. By the time I fit it all back together you probably won't see the difference ( I hope ) not long till the detail starts and that will suck big time!
The things I learn on this play field I will apply to the next one and hang it up.
-
Looking good. I'm so happy that it is going to get a better playfield.
-
Finally getting a bit more work done on Radical. It aint pretty but it sure is better.
This play field is the practice subject and when I swap over the other play field will hopefully turn out better fingers crossed )
-
before there is a bucket load of bare wood.

Looking good Andy ! Touch up work is hard, but with the right air brush etc, it is a lot easier. Keep chipping away, there are a lot of Youtube videos on airbrushing that will help !
-
Gosh I envy the guys like you with these awesome painting skills!!
-
The dismantle of old play field begins after much time has passed.
My MOJO is slowly coming back ^^^
-
Wow never seen one before looks like a pretty jam packed game

Ramps are being remade by Mark on Pinside.. Send the playfield off to be restored. That will restore the Mojo BIGTIME.
-
I would love too, but $ is tight and I like having a crack myself.
Believe it or not this play field is the better of the two I had. I will do this play field better this time as I learnt a lot from doing the first couple.
Ramps are excellent condition, just need love. Plastics would be a nice cost effective buy if some one were to do them?
VVVVVVVVVVVVVV
This is the play field I have done which is going in. She'll be right ^^^
-
strip her down
oh christmas tree!
-
I love winning

I have a question for the restorers out there if you could advise before I start the wiring loom.
I usually just keep the loom together when swapping play fields but this time I would like to do it in the order factory did it.
ie: is the order GI, SWITCHES, CONTROLLED LAMPS, SOLENOIDS? FLASHERS?
Please advise as I would like to give this way a whirl and tidy up the loom as I go.
Cheers

I throw the looms in the Ultrasonic and refit in the order - Lamps, Switches and coils. It's just my thing, so I don't know what the factory order would have been.
-
This looks a great project. I love that you guys are bringing these back to life.
-
anymore progress on this bally classic
would like to see a pic all lit up ^^^
-
I am sorry to say not much, life just keeps getting in the way
I have started to install the wire loom, just the solenoid left. But I am rebuilding all mechs as I go.

-
