Title: Fishaway or Getatales....
Post by: robm on July 07, 2015, 09:30:48 PM
Pinballs were DEFINITELY harmed in the following episode.....

I pulled on of the Fishtales out of the resto queue, and i know i took photos, but can't find them at the moment. Cab was completely shagged - base fell out completely, sides were delaminating inside and out.  Headbox was (relatively) OK. The playfield was filthy, however no significant wear.

So thanks to Tony at the Pinball Shed, i got a Getaway cabinet for the transplant operation...now this cab also had seen far better days (which i was well aware when i grabbed it).  RHS had been screwed to the bottom, base is stuffed, and plenty of dings all around

(http://i837.photobucket.com/albums/zz299/rjmilla/IMG_6962_zpsarq9hbnl.jpg) (http://s837.photobucket.com/user/rjmilla/media/IMG_6962_zpsarq9hbnl.jpg.html)

(http://i837.photobucket.com/albums/zz299/rjmilla/IMG_6963_zpsssnfagdq.jpg) (http://s837.photobucket.com/user/rjmilla/media/IMG_6963_zpsssnfagdq.jpg.html)

So, the conundrum i had, was whether to modify the Getaway front to suit FT reel shooter, or transplant the front - in the end, i decided to transplant. Cut/knocked, levered the old FT front out, removed all screws, nails and staples and tidied the joins up.  Then i lined the front up with the getaway cab, and liquid nailed it together, along with some nails from the nail gun.  Clamped it all up, and left for 24hrs

New FT front on the Getaway cab, with the old FT cab with a gaping open mouth in the background!!!

More updates to come later, but this one might take a while

great subject heading and great game.
FT is definitely a special game that needs saving.  @@*

That Diner cab in the background is looking pretty special too.

Tie the lot together , Chuck them overboard ,they would make a good artificial reef.  &&
But seriously, great effort in salvaging what you can out of them.
Gee that Diner is rooted btw , A real shame these games get so trashed...

I commend you for not parting these machines out. Most would have done so already !

Got a bit more done today after all the glue had set.

Got the heat gun out to remove the decals - last look that it is a half caste cabinet

This one needed PLENTY of bog

Bit of a chunk missing from the headbox

Looks like a semi normal cab with no artwork

This is pretty much the left overs from the original FT cab

Previously, my old man had been helping and made a new back panel for the playfield, copying the old one which was cactus

This is the playfield partly stripped

So plenty more bogging and sanding to go!

The silver williams sticker looks like the only worthwhile piece to salvage from the pile of rubbish.

Right - have made some good progress - put a new back in the headbox, new base in the main cab, and heaps of bogging and sanding.

Very happy with how the new front matched up.  Gave it all a few coats of primer, then have just put decals on now with my wife (great help!)

Need to give the legs a good polish, next will start reassembling main cab

Didn't take a lot of pics of putting it back together, although a new back board was made, had to clean/replace quite a few mechanisms under the pf, but it all came together pretty nicely - particularly looking back at the previous page!

Had a couple of quick games and it appears to play perfectly with no errors

Another game rought back from the possum lavatory block. Well done mate - i love what you have done with the green LEDs. Get rid of those awful legs. PM me for supplier details if you need a few sets !
