OK, it's time we found out what you enjoy most about pinball.
I really enjoy playing them. That's their purpose; they are designed to be played. And the best pinball machines are those that I enjoy playing the most.
Look, I can see the fun in fixing them - there is real satisfaction to be had in diagnosing a problem and fixing it. And I can see that there would be real satisfaction in restoring one. But in the end they are fixed or restored so that they can be played, and the most satisfaction to be had in pinball is in beating your previous high score (or someone else's!).

Restoring
The thrill of the chase is always a rush for me, but it cannot beat the unloading of the next project into the garage. Any spare time I have is in the garage, restoring pins. Repairing them is also fun, but to transform a neglected and unloved machine into a working and restored machine for playing enjoyment is the most satisfying achievement possible. Playing is great, but I thrive on the "journey", and I get a HUGE thrill when the machines end up in someone's collection.

All of the above I guess, but for me it starts with the hunt for a particular one that I'm after.
Its like the hunter/gatherer instinct in us *%* and its such a thrill.
Then comes the resto and then playing.

The thing I enjoy least about pinballs is fixing them, because I don't know how! ^&^

The thrill of the chase - even after 32 years gets me going - then the restoration of a game that has seen much better days.
Another kick is chasing the impossible to find parts from the USA
After the hard work, heading out there on on a Friday night with a few beers, the music pumping and the lights out.....the inner sanctum *%*

Thoughly enjoy spending lots of time restoring, nothing compares to playing your first game on a pin you have just done a full restoration on *%*

I rarely play them, Ive got a slate top pool table, same here never seem to play it either but when friends come over i enjoy watching and participating.
I love restoring pins seeing the finished product after the many hours you have put in , especially if you do a pro job.

I hate the bloody things...They take all my cash...waste my time fixing them...waste even more time playing them...and the buggers breed like rabbits...Think Tony warned me about that one...
And they piss me off no end trying to take mylar off the buggers..
Cost me a fortune when the power bill turns up...and Im always cleaning the glass after the Kids put there fingers all over them...and the kids NEVER finish a game and leave the music going...
Im forever putting the glass back on and have left the balls out...
And the old globe sockets are a real pain in the ass...
They take up too much room...are too heavy..too noisy..fade in the sun...and have even caught on fire..
and then every few months a strange group of guys come on over and play them all night...leave beer bottles everywhere and nudge the crap out of my machines (When Louise isnt looking that is) So I end up needing to fix them up all over again...
But hey I guess they are fun...

I love Restoring them but to me thats the same a fixing them. But must admit getting the new machine home and opening it up to see what you have to work with is my favorite part

Yep that's it....!
But what makes it a tad better - is when a few mates of the same era & have wasted as much pocket money as you back in the day enjoy the same "sanctum"
Plus I love getting a bargain....!

Collecting pinball machines is an awesome hobby, just the thrill in chasing machines is half the fun.
I love playing these machines, and also arcade games. Nothing is better than having a few beers on a friday night and playing pinball/arcade games after a tough week @ work!!

All aspects, including the social side of things - meeting people with a shared interest/passion for the hobby. We have a small network of devotees here in the Wild West. All great guys and some very cluey dudes who love to chat and help each other out. Much like a real life APA forum . . . more power to it!
