Title: Solenoid problem
Post by: pinfrog on May 05, 2009, 06:55:42 PM
I fired up my 78 Playboy yesterday ,went to start a game but the ball wouldnt kick out.On further investigation none of the solenoids would work except the knocker and flippers.Couldnt see any burnt fuses or anything noticably wrong.  Any suggestions what the problem could be?Cheers Les.

There's a fuse under the playfield - check that.

do not rely on a visual inspection of fuses.take them out one at a time and test, with the power off.

Thanks for the reply fellas. I swapped the slowblow fuse from my Supersonic (which I checked was working before swapping ) and  blew that fuse, what is causing the fuse to blow?

Sounds like you have a shorted coil or diode.  Physically check all coils do they all look Ok?  Disconnect A3 J1 and then put the fuse in, does it blow?  If not then most likley culprit is the out hole kicker coil.  If it does still blow then this coil is Ok and its one of the other playfield coils.

Sound advice.

Just check that the playfield fuse is correctly rated - I think it should be 1 Amp SloBlo
