I'm starting to renovate a TZ I bought and I'm scratching my head why the upper left flipper won't work. It's electronic not a mechanical problem.So far I've (1)removed the coil and checked resistance's and OK but subed another known good one anyway(2)Getting 68V on both outer lugs(3) breifly earth centre lug to siderail and coil fires ok. (3A) swapped flipper opto boards over(4)Remove flip board and replace TIP36,TIP102 and 2n4403(5)Flipper holds but flutters when trying to power up(5)swapped flip board out of Corvette and all ok so prob is still in flip board. Only thing I can find wrong is resistor R23 - 470 ohm is reading 1500. could this be the prob??? Amended--- PLS check next JPD post for more input - Thanks

OOps sorry Nino but I've done that about (3) so I'll edit thanks any way. I'll just add some other wierd symptoms that maybe unrelated but still flippers.(1) Fuse F904 lower left flipper was blown but LLF was working(2) EOS switch on LRF doesn't register in test even though with a DMM on it works ok(3) LLF coil was mounted ass about on flipper assly and had NO DIODES on it. as said when board swapped from corvette everythings all ok.

I've just swapped fishtales and TZ flip boards for the time being until I can suss this out. Fishtales hasn't got upper flippers anyway %.%

Jeff - Did machine worked for a while after you bought it ?
If not - sounds like some "creative" repairs have been done.

No Nino the UL hasn't worked since I dug the game out of a machinery shed a couple of months back where it had been for about 4 years with a chaff bag chucked over it %.%. I've only just started to attack the issues. I put the faulty flip board into Corvette and the UL flipper doesn't work there either so I'm prety sure it's isolated to the board.Until I soldered in the TIP36 and predrivers the board looked untouched. Maybe it is that R23 resistor as it seems to have the odd reading out compared to the others and the schematic specs ^&^

Are you testing R23 out of circuit ?
Good thing is that you have isolated the fault to the board. So it should be a bit easier to fix.

No the sus resistor is still in situ but I tested the same bank of resistors in both the FT & c'vette boards and they are the same as schematics on both the good boards. Went to Jaycar Electronics today and bought a clutch of new ones but couldn't get 1/4 watt only 1/2 watt which I don't think it will matter that much - could be wrong. The R23 in situ is measuring around 1300 ohms which is odd but I'm on the chase.

1/2 Watt is fine. It will only be an issue if you needed a 1/2 Watt and you replaced it with a 1/4 Watt.

I'll try the resistor Monday and see how it goes OR.. leave the boards where they are in the other games but it just I don't think so. Serial # and all.

@@*Upper left now working and it was the 470 ohm resistor after all(it fell in half as i was desoldering it!!). The EOS switch not registering problem on the lower right flipper ended up being a cactus diode on the flip board as well (found it after backtracking from EOS switch- had no Volts reading when the others had approx 12V---DC?). Removed the Gumball machine last night and fixed the Geneva switch(mount screws had fallen out of microswitch). Slowly whittling the probs down. Only two left with fault registered- Proximity switch at trough(LED doesn't kight up but seems to be getting power supply) and the good old CLOCK(its very noisy and only half the optos are registering. When I get these resolved I'll see how far I want to go with this one. %$%

I learn something new every day with pins Nino but lucky no-one's paying me an hourly rate to do it as I'd have no-one interested :lol:
