The first pinball I owned was a Williams High Speed 2: The Getaway. Great machine, and I had it out in operation for most of the time I owned it. Did very well for me...

got any spare segasa parts
-
Mine was a Time Warp - took a year to find one (knew nothing about the idea of owning pins or that it was in fact a "hobby"). Luckily scored a nice one and was not totally ripped despite buying from a not so reputable dealer! (Sorry member dealers, I mean the other sort of dealer that preys on newbies, you guys rock!)
-
got any spare segasa parts
What are you after??? All parts are compatible with Williams. Only ones youll have difficulty finding are the 115v coils for the reset banks. I have a couple spare, if you need one, let me know

The first pin I put in MY house was Paragon and 2 X KISS pinballs..
-
1978 Gottlieb Dragon restored it got double what I spent on it and put it towards a HS2. Unfortunately the Dragon didn't really hold my intrest for very long.
-
Mine was a MINT Gottlieb Buckaroo for $30 in a garage sale - in 1977!
That was the first of about 400 pins!
-
LOL- be lucky to find a pin in a garage sale now.....im still looking though
-
demo man. why? it was the next pinball to sell the day i first logged onto ebay. turned out to be devons (for those that know him - the source of marks rocky that nino is restoring), had it for 4 years now and its never missed a beat.

ajlaird don't just get one, get two or three now, because it's only a matter of time. you just can't stop at one.
hey Nino :lol

A wise man once told me ;
"It never stops at just one"...
Hey, that was me !!
Lat count, I had 33, and I cannot see the back of my garage anymore..That's a fact !
-
Bally Paragon - now partially restored. Will never sell the old girl, in fact it is almost big enough for me to get buried in when I go!
-
Williams Doodle Bug EM
Collected EM's for about Ten Years (gottlieb wedge heads my favourite)

Yeah, if we are having a New Year's Eve party then I would want a couple of pinnies to keep everyone entertained.
-
Mine was an absolutley mint Bally Dr Dude (1990) purchased from Mark C this year.
Funny enough I was not looking at any particular pin to buy, just the best condition/quality pin that was in my budget.
I have since purchsed a Getaway/High Speed II and started doing my first repairs/restoration.
I don't think I will ever sell the Dr Dude, something about your first pin, and that it is remarkable condition for it's age.
Cheers Angelo

Hi Angelo %)%
I'm sure I saw that DR Dude - if it was the one I saw - it was exceptional..
-
Believe it not the first pinball we bought was a Williams 8 Ball,we got it for $10.00 from a church garage sale,it was a bit rough but worked ok,eventually sold it for $400.That was about 10 years ago.
-
A $10 working pinball? Now that has to go down as the bargain of the century. Considering you sold it for 40 times the purchase price.
-
It certainly was a bargain,I remember the Pastor saying something about having to get rid of it because the boys wouldn`t leave it alone while they were supposed to be having bible lessons.

That reminds me, the first pinball I had in the house (but didn't own) came with a youth work job in Adelaide. I can't remember the name but I'm guessing it was an EM. It was fun to have one available to play, but it wasn't as fun to play as EBD. Probably just as well - I may never have got any work done!
-
The first pin i ever owned was a Bally Supersonic. It was 13 years ago, it cost me $300 and i kept it for about 2 years.
It was fully working, with coin mechs when i bought it, reasonably good PF, bit shabby on the artwork but overall good condition.
I was a "COMPLETE" noobie when i bought this. Eventualy one flipper died and i had no idea how to fix it. Got a tech in, and he spent 2 hours to no avail. I was dissapointed to say the least. Another thing i did(which now looking back was completely insane )i wanted to get a real good shine on the PF, so i "rubbed it with cooking oil", it looked great for about 4 games. Then it died. Sold it for $200 and didnt think much more about pins till now. Thats my first pin story and im stickin to it ^^^ *Prepares for ridicule*

I put a add in the local Herald news paper in the mid 1980's under the section Wanted. My add read: Wanted pinballs working or not.I got a phone call from a guy in Taree NSW and told me he had I think it was 8 pins that were at a youth club that were no longer required. Not sure about how much I paid but I think It was $400. He said he would truck them to my house at no extra price If I wanted them. YES I will take them! When they arrived there was Topcard and many gottliebs all EM pins in varied conditions.

What an awesome first pin - one of the best Bally EM pins ever made and just fantastic to play!
Would be a real tough one to replace, those 1970s EM Bally pins are rare as!

I know a guy whom may be selling one...he brought it from me and is probably asking around $800 for it. Let me know if your interested.

My first pin was a Gottlieb PLAYBALL, 1971.
I got given it for nix in approx 1979-80.
Sold it in Trading Post for $120 when my first child was born as it was stored in the room that was to become his bedroom and had nowhare else for it. !!!
-
My 1st Pin was a Williams Blue Chip about 3 1/2 years ago (still have it) .. played it to death for several months then thought a second one would be good .. now have 6 (averaging about 2 a year) and still want more.
Damn I sure wish I started this hobby about 20 years ago though!

Still plenty of time and opportunity out there !
I bought / traded NINE machines last year and sold THREE. I don't think I will do anywhere that amount of "shifting" this year !
You just need some good fortune

1977 (?) High Hand
Won it in a local arcade competition. I was 13 at the time and there was some angry adults that couldnt believe my score. Highest score for 3 months won the machine. Still remember I clocked it with a final score of 121,000. My first score was 76k in the first month, 3 weeks left in the competition and some bloke scored 80+ odd. I didnt spend a huge fortune but was so glad I got that score. Lucky the operator was there (got my mates to call him) when I was approaching the clocking. A proud moment with my mates when it was delivered and stuck in my room. I remember taking the glass off the first time and it was unreal LOL. Fast forward 36 years and I BOUGHT my first pin - LW3 which is still there for restoration. Going to my first AA meet just gave me the bug
-
My first was IJ, would have polished the thing inside and out a hundred times in the first month I had it. My absolute pride and joy. Still gets played every couple of days too. Will never part with it unless I'm inside it on the way into the ground. I think everyone holds a special attachment to their first one.
-
demo man. still got it and love it. ^^^

My first Pin was the bk
paid $450 for it in 1987
sorry about the crappy photo

-
I swapped the Mame machine I built for my first pin....It was a TOTEM...great game...friends down the road have it now...
-
My 1st machine was a Last Lap by Playmatic
What a pile of crap sold it within weeks, decided to up the spend and get a real - later model pin.
-
1st machine was a `300` gottlieb. payed $250 when i was 13 yrs old in 1978.saved my paper money wages.my dad sold it in 1983 for $250.to his mate,so i sold his eight ball table for a slab of beer.
-
Nice work studley My old man sold my XA coupe so im waiting to claim some of his cars lol
-
Mine was a Gottlieb Mustang back in about 1987. Swapped it for a cocktail that I paid $100 for.
-
Video game for a pinball now thats a great swap i wouldnt even think twice about it
-
Gottlieb Centigrade 37 (1976)
Bought it about 30 years ago from a mate who operated, then gave up the biz in disgust at the damge his pins sustained from kids. Paid him $100 including getting it fully working. It sat in the old colorbond shed for abt 25 years and was loved and played intensely. Interest waned towards the end . . . . then I discovered TAF (shock, horror fark! I hear the retro guys saying) Nowadays DMD's blow my skirt up - although I did manage to get a damn near pristine C37 backglass at auction, framed it in a mock wedgie box and look at it with a bitter tear in the eye.
Miss the good old "ding dingeddy ding ding clackety clack" Now I occasionally play friends EM's so all is not lost.
Max
-
Centigrade 37 Nice first machine and the price was good too.
-
Hit The Deck - my brother and I went halves and got it for a christmas present. My parents weren't keen at first as said there was no room. They knew we were keen when we dug out about 2 foot of earth under the house to make room for it. It never went there though, was in the laundry for a while and then in our bedroom
Driving past Pinball Mania the other day and was shocked as they have one in their window - recognised the backglass straight away
-
Just came across this old thread and really enjoyed reading through it some great stories in there worth a look if you haven't seen it (one member used cooking oil to try to give his playfield a nice shine).
My first machine solar city a $1600 dollar eBay purchase 6 or 7 years back that started or at least rekindled an obsession.....wish I never sold that game and not sure why I did but I made a $250 profit from it so not all bad.
-
Bally Camelot...Still love the old girl . gets a run every other day. ^^^
-
Bally Strikes and Spares, bought it for $700.00 bucks back in 1985.
Sold it 4 . years later for a Williams Firepower.
Pinpal......
-
Atari Superman when it was almost new from a friend that worked at leisure and Allied $200 ^^^
-
Not sure if I've mentioned it before, my first machine was a Williams dealers choice. Only regret never getting it going before I sold it.
-
The first one I bought myself was in 1988 when I was 18 and it was the Hankin FJ as I played it in the early 80's at the squash courts in Ballina.
I gave it away when I moved from Sydney to the Gold Coast in October 2002. Compared to the 90's Williams/Bally's that I had I thought it wasn't worth playing every again etc.
There was one my Dad bought for me when I was 12 but I cannot remember what I was. I think I remember it had the W logo on it and it was a single player EM. One day I will look up what one it was. I thought maybe a western or card theme.
-
Bally's Black Rose - found it in the paper version of the Trading Post - caught the train down to Montrose and had the bloke deliver for me 23/12/05 - 2.3k. Hardly ever let me down either
-
+ 1 Bally 92 Black Rose, great game still have it, can't see it leaving my collection any time soon.
-
A great thread .... first time I've seen it. Some terrific first pins in the mix. My first was a Williams Flash. Still have it and I don't think I'll be letting it go.
-
Gottlieb 71 Playball
-
That's a hard one , I owned this machine when i was 17 , Bought it from a work friend who's Dad was a operator , The game died not long after and i sold it for $20 !!!
Cant remember the exact name now , all i know was it was a 4 player Williams Em , With a Card Game theme
If i knew then what i know now , Id have it working aaaaah such is life
-
My first was a popeye saves the earth. Total basket case. It kinda half worked for a couple of days and died. Really wanted to fix it but a mate said part it. Found another popeye that wasn't working and used them both to make one. So my first two machines were a popeye!
-
Mine was a Data East Starwars. It didn't work and was hacked to death but the playfield was nice under all the grot once it was cleaned up. The problems with that machine was how I found this forum, made some good friends because of it too so not all bad in the end after all.
-
Williams Indiana Jones in the mid 1990's for $600 from an old operator who was scaling down his route.
-
Jungle princess for $20 still own it
-
Playball which I got in 1979 birthday present, man I wish I still had it :( but upgraded to a old Chicago(4 player) in 1983 :)
-
A Star Trek Next Gen wide body & A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles both delivered the same day.
Pins couldn't be any more different but dam they are both a lot of fun.
Still have both & will always keep.
Great thread.
-
