Good luck with it Devlin, Im sure based on what you did with the TORCH that this will come up great..even better then the TORCH as the starting point is better in my opinion.

Now your brother just has to use his ASS like skills, like he did in finding the backglass for the Bally World Cup, and get you a Time Warp backglass.

Surely someone here knows of a good TW backglass that is just hanging on a games wall somewhere that would be better used on a pin restore!  Come on cough it up.....

Good on you - there is a bit of love about for TW, a great machine and good luck with the resto.

In the wild adolescent sexually charged days me and mates used to refer to the right hand tunnel shot as the the tunnel of love - in middle age this is how we still refer to it  %.%

Great machine there as I too have a nice TW and love playing it with 5 bumpers and 10x bonus and 2 sets of targets. I have some new yellow NOT factory blue banana flipper rubbers if you want a pair-I'd love to contribute to your restore.. <..>

Looking forward to seeing the finished results.  I saw this machine a while ago and I reckon its well worth the effort.  I suspect the mylar (hopefully) will come off cleanly and you'll have a real good game.

im hoping it comes up clean with out the picture lifting some parts look a little bit odd im hopping its just dirt under the mylar will have to just take my time and be care full.

best of luck. I have a TW too (my very first game). It lives at a mate's place (just around the corner) as space is limited. But I wouldn't sell it, and love getting around there for the odd game.

And Firepower - we called it the same thing but not the polite version you used!

Mine looks the same - appears to be mould under the mylar, the same grubby blotches, so I will watch with great interest.

Also does anybody have any thoughts or methods on how to turn the yellow bananna flipper rubbers (currently available) to blue (currently unavailable) - I reckon there's a knighthood in it for anybody that can tell us how to do this.

Finally, Pinnies4me I was speaking euphamistically to protect the guilty!

I agree how to paint the yellow rubbers blue? why didn't they just produce blue one surely they sold more TW than Disco fevers? I got some yellows on at the moment and the blues do look heaps better and as my blues where NOS I'm looking after them ^^^

just wondering what color the banana flippers are meant to be cause they r like a light brown on ipdb the only one that's blue is the one on the flyer. and also the pop bumpers are light blue on there as well  !@#

Blue flippers found here

http://www.bestofpinball.de (sorry original link does not seem to work so try this and do a search)

Good luck with the project. Would have liked to try it but the prospect of being homeless now for a year or two means no room for projects (building a new house  %.%)

I also found some OS backglasses but can't remember where, so will look into it for you if you like??? They were pricey though ($600 I think shipped)

i think i still have some ranex from when i needed it for torch. i wish now that i didint try and take the mylar rings off the pop bumpers. if i just left them the job would be half as bad as its going to be now. oh well i no for next time. there is still a weird film over the whole play field. it looks like there are still blobs of glue on it but they wont come off. kinda like there is a clear coat over it so im just going to have to leave it. been scrubbing for ages any more and ill want to  &^&. i think its going to come up good at least the moldy yellow glue is off it now  $#$

How'd you remove the mylar? I bought a 1977 Cleopatra playfield to tested a few methods. Freeze no good at all, but shellite and the a sunny day seemed to do the trick. I had a bit of paint loss in the beginning, but found that it was more due impatience. Lost little dots of paint in areas again from going too fast. Is that what you found or is it more a matter of luck of the draw?

The playfield still looks awesome and much better than before. The residue if its glue, you try to brush shellite like mad in areas to test if it comes up  !@#

good luck with the project  ^^^

hi mate i tried shellite and heat on my last pinny (1980 torch) and it worked pritty good but on this i tried to  use white spirit. but found i was losing little dots no matter how fast or slow i removed it so i tried with heat from a hair drier and it started removing much easyer. but still lost bits of paint. i think most of them little dots u lose are just luck. cant stop that. but i found that the white spirit removed the mylar but left nearly all the glue on the play field. but when i used shellite and metho on my torch with heat most of the glue stayed on the mylar. it could be because they used different glues on the mylar im not shore but there was a hell of a lot of rubbing and scrubbing to remove the glue from the time warp.
i lost the most paint removing the sticky plastic rings from the pop bumpers. wish i new i would of left the ones that were not so bad.  ^&^

Application of heat and a lot of patience is the key to mylar and contact removal !

Heat is more important that anything - shellite is used only to clean up the adhesive residue.

The green around the dragons has come up really well. The original pics showed bare wood, did you prime it first to build it up or just straight colour?  Are the fine black lines done with an artline pen?

Title: Re: williams time warp restoration
Post by: ddstoys on March 20, 2010, 11:32:59 AM
Again using an enamel paint so we hopefully dont need to clear coat was just done straight over the wood and the fine black lines were done by hand with enamel on a brush.   All these areas will be covered with pop bumper rings so should hold all these touch ups in place

Sand it as flat as possible with 1200 Grit and then mylar - key is to get it flat.
