Title: What a heat wave
Post by: Strangeways on January 28, 2009, 07:02:23 PM

Boy is it hot down here in Melbourne. 43.2 Degrees and another 2 days of 40 Degree heat.

Even playing a game on the Medusa breaks out a sweat. I never thought I'd see the day when I'd have to take a cold shower after playing a pin  :D

Yeh - you guys got it stinking down there. Its been bloody humid here in Brissy of late ( today was OK though)
working away downstairs the other night - my enamels were drying up on me as i painted and im dripping sweat on my work.

Keep in mind though - that whatever you guys get down south, we tend to get approx 3 days later and you can bet your arse that it will piss down the day before it hits - im a glassblower too - no aircon, just a fan that i can only run on low cos it disturbs the flame.

I am of course preparing to die...

yeah, nice timing for us - we shift house on Friday, both the little girls and Mrs Pinnies4me have gasto (try running a temperature in this weather), and I seem to have been the hold out to the bug - yeah right, sure to come down with it Friday morning!

I hang out for this sort of beach weather and I can't even take the girls out of the house!

I ventured into the garage and found a ramp I glued last night with 2 part epoxy - it's "separated".

Novus is like water

Nifti is warm, as if it was a baby's bottle

Madness !

While I was travelling to the new house (got the keys a day early) this morning and the temp said 46 Idecided it must be wrong - rthat radio said 43. Turns out Geelong was hooter than Melbourne, officially 45.3 and the hottest day on record.

Might be something in that global warming BS after all.

Well the all time record in Adelaide was 46.1. That was 70 years ago so I guess we must have had global warming back then also. And this bloody day light savings just fades my curtains.  %$%

About 10 years ago I went on a company sponsored reward event for good employees.  I was a manager and I took a few of my employees along.  It was in Chicago and we decided we wanted to go to an amusement park.  It was 46c and not one hint of a breeze.  We were outside for 4 hours.  I almost passed out.  One of my employees did for a second on a coaster.  I was pouring $4 bottles of water on my head :P  We drove back to the hotel and the power water was out.  Something about generators overloading due to a huge spike in power demand.  So I couldn't shower. Now, I'm a guy who does sweat and in 46c i sweated like a horse outside of a glue factory.  We had a dinner to go to and there was no way I was going in my current condition.  The owner called me and told me I had to go right away (I think I got some award or trinket that collected dust on my desk.)  So I took bottled water and washed the stinkiest bits and went.

Horrible...

If today reaches 43 degrees - then it will break a long standing record of two consecutive days over 43 degrees.  That is THREE DAYS..

There was no "Global Warming" in 1908 - It is just a 100 year cycle

Yep, I agree totally with that Nino... Hence why I'm staying in the A/C'd office and on AP all day...

Its days like this for I.T guys where you need to stay in the server rooms and re-colour code your patch leads, or just monitor the ground for any dropped packets ! (to tell those non-I.T)!

There was some "unplanned" outages today that required prolonged periods in the sever room where it was a cool steady 21 degrees.

The room was full of dropped packets  #*#

Dropped packets :lol  I think I can see some coming out of my computer today...

Apparently it got to 44.9c in Melbourne today... and so much for my plan of staying in A/C'd comfort... the A/C compressor failed a couple of hours ago! DAMN! !*!
