I have a small chip in the paint work of my fishtales. I have plans of a complete over hall and clear coating of the play field (for protection more than anything els) this could be good or bad for a fishtales, being that it is already a fast game? Any way i wanted some suggestions as to what to do in the meantime or do i have to touch it up and go ahead with the clear coat?

This is to give you an idea of where it is

Close up. Not much i know but a stitch in time a.

You could try and stabalise the edges of the current chipped area with a tiny bit of clear or thin super glue to help prevent any further erosion of the paint.
-
Bit reluctant to put superglue on the playfield there may be issues with the eventual removal of it. Has anyone done this before? !@#

I would touch up with acrylic paints by hand and put some automotive clear over it to lock it in. Such a small area will be hardly noticeable. I have done similar touchups on a couple of pins. Take your time to mix the colours perfectly, paint onto an icepole stick, dry the paint with a hair dryer and compare colours. Acrylic colours change a lot when dry compared to wet colour.

Would i be best off clear coating the whole playfield? is touching up a small area then clear coating just that small area going to show when i eventualy clearcoat the whole playfield is what i mean. !@#

If you are going to CC the whole PF eventually anyway, either dont worry about doing the touchup until ready as it is a very small area, or do the touchup now and just put some wax over it.
Even if you did seal it in, unless there was a problem with incompatable clears, it should not be visible anyway.

Only very small, I'd go with somthing reversable;
Sharpie + nail polish = ^^^
