Title: Stern displays
Post by: faza on March 05, 2009, 07:02:21 PM
Hi all

Was wondering if anyone can help me i have 4 out of 5 stern displays that are working but the plasma glass tubes have burn in , i take it that the glass displays are no longer manufactured.
I have checked all the voltages and they are ok .
What are my options, look for used in good condition or go for the pinleds.
Any other suggestions

Cheers

Pinballl Life have new 6 digit display glasses for $US42. You would have to double check but I think these will work with the Stern displays.

Are these the old 6 digit displays?  What machine are you talking about?

If its the old 6 digit the Bally displays also work and are basiccly the same.  These come and go on ebay all the time.

You can buy just the tubes also from some of the parts distributers.

Sorry i should have given more info yes they are the old style of a 1979 stern magic.
I haven't been able to source the tubes/displays anywhere i thought they must have been no longer manufactured.
I have seen a few on ebay but would rather replace the displays if possible

Cheers

They are manufactured - the displays. But - you will have to solder them in yourself.

You can get full replacements sets from the USA - "PinLEDs".

Read about it here - http://www.pinled.de/shop/index.php

Other than that - they do appear on eBay from time to time !

I brought some tubes from Bumper Action for these displays, not so long ago.  As Nino said you need to know how to solder to replace them thou..

Thanks for the replies i have had a look at the pinled site and could only see units that are direct replacements not just the display replacements (ie still high voltage).
Soldering is not a problem.

Thanks

Pinball Resource stock just the displays, but they are not cheap with the Aussie dollar at the moment.

Thanks i just checked pinball resources may have to wait for the dollar to improve or look for good second hand units, all the ones you see on ebay are either burnt or untested.

Cheers

They pop up every now and again. I bought a box of 12 non working 2 years ago. I fixed 10 fairly easily. Thats your best bet.
