Title: Heighway Pinball
Post by: HeighwayPinball on January 27, 2013, 03:07:11 PM
Hi everyone,

This is Andrew from Heighway Pinball.

As suggested by Oldskool, I have started a thread and would like to give you regular updates here and answer any questions that you may have.

To begin with, I am attaching our latest flyer for "Full Throttle" featuring the finished artwork. The only thing missing now is the plastics art - which is due for completion within the next week.

Thanks already for all the positive comments in previous threads.

Andrew

The new design rocks for sure. Cant wait to see the cabinet artwork. I hope its full size racing bikes side by side doing big powerstands. Anything from the Isle of Man looking stuff would be excellent. Well done.

We are talking to one potential Aussie distributor right now, and maybe another shortly. We will definitely have one in place by the time we start production in April

We are looking to start shipping in early May. We will probably ship to you guys first, due to the long shipping times.

For all the latest photos and info, please look up Heighway Pinball on Facebook.

For now, here is the cabinet sideart...

It looks OK, but its a bit plain for a 2013 modern cabinet (sorry, but thats my honest feedback)

I was hoping u did something like the style of the Batman cabinet artwork, (which has excellent detail of someone sitting on a full size motorbike).

If u copied that style and did something that looked like a recent great motorbike racing shot from the Isle of Man racing events, it would look much more modern and edgy-er.
The cabinet artwork is something alone that will encourage or discourage someone to buy a pinball machine for their home collection, regardless of the great playfield.

Anyway, I thought the cabinet artwork could be much more life like and less cartoonish......just an idea/some feedback anyway.

I like an original artwork that isn,t photoshopped. ^^^
It will most certainly stand out in a crowd. Especially with a cartoon hottie making a comeback.  #*#  #*#  #*# more chicks I reckon- that's what has been missing for too long.

"Heighway Pinball Newsletter - 8th August 2013

Hi,

Welcome to the first ever ‘Heighway Pinball’ newsletter.

A while back, you signed up to our newsletter and now, with many exciting announcements planned in the near future, and production of our first game ‘Full Throttle’ beginning in the next few months, we will be sending you regular newsletters to inform you of our progress.

image 1 insert

This coming weekend, from 9th to 11th August, the UK’s premier pinball show, the UK Pinball Party, www.ukpinballparty.com, will be taking place at the Puma Daventry Court Hotel in Northamptonshire.

image 2 insert

At 1.30pm local time (GMT+1) on Saturday 10th August 2013 in the Fuel Bar of the Daventry Court Hotel, Pinball News will be hosting an exclusive pre-launch event for our first game, Full Throttle. We will be showing a playable version of our game with an advanced ruleset - with LCD dashboard, graphics, animations, music, sound effects, voices and light shows!

If this isn't enough, we will also be unveiling our brand new cabinet design and all-new translite/side decal art package.

We will al so be announcing some major pinball industry legends who have joined the ever-growing Heighway Pinball team, and we will be giving some hints about our upcoming games over the next 12 months

This will be a major weekend of news for Heighway Pinball and our first game - and we hope that you all like what you will see and hear.

The order books for Full Throttle officially open this weekend, and there will be a special UK Pinball Party discount over the weekend to anybody placing orders, and paying deposits, for ‘Standard Edition’ games or one of the 250 ‘Limited Edition’ models.

Finally, to coincide with the pre-launch event, our brand new website will be going live. Please remember to check out www.heighwaypinball.com after  1.30pm local time (GMT+1) on Saturday.

That’s all for now. We will be bringing you exclusive updates after the Party, next week.

Thanks for reading.

I think this could be a great concept for maintenance if a sited machine needs to be serviced, simply slide in the new playfield and art and take the other playfield away for servicing, looking forward to more information - Pinball News got the job of interviewing and were present for the launch so we should see an official story soon.

Why go there in a thread about another companies setup. If anything they have backed away from going public about there pin until time for official release as they want to get everything perfect. In the end you can do this as well.

I have been communicating with Andrew for quite awhile and he is a nice guy and extremely passionate about pinball - I hope he knocks it out of the park with his first game and many others, good luck to him.

One thing I really like about this pinball company is that you can hook up to the internet and compete GLOBALLY!
How cool is that? Just wish they would keep us a little more informed, in a small world and boasting internet capabilities they should PR much, much better.

I think in the end after some negativity from forums etc Heighway retreated a little, hired a few pinball designers / artist to polish a few designs and do some new ones as they have 4 in various stages and then release when everything is dialled in. And pretty sure Circes Animal House is in the near future as well.

At least he is setting up with out holding his hand out for cash from customers ……..   @@*

here is a thought for customers and distributors...

what if once you have a Heighway Pinball game / cabinet and when the next game comes out you could hire a drop in playfield to try before you buy system but maybe as a pickup and drop off deal (keep costs and risk of damage down). The hiring aids in covering some of the business costs and greatly reduces the cost for the customer to see if they really want the game....with maybe the hire fee coming off the purchase price if you go ahead with a purchase. Could see this being great for arcades as well rotating playfields on a hire basis.

agree with pete and gav if it is fun, something different then more the better.

still seems to have 2 pinball plungers (2 player) and like a roulette thing.

Apparently it was a contract job with them to be distributed around the globe with approx 130 going to the US

the video refers to to it as a Baffle Ball. from watching the video multiple times it seems like the ball starts on your side and then rotates in a figure 8 pattern and then maybe drops to one players side or the other  !@#

I have never seen so many people yelling any laughing around a pinball before so it must be a gambling something. One side is placing coins down a lot so add alcohol and profit, hey presto, a winner !

Strictly not a pinball as we know it but boy it looks popular.

Screen oriented tech, whether in the playfield itself or enhanced over the standard display in the backbox is the way to go.

Yeah, main two toys got removed late in the build. It certainly is rare to have a pin with no ball interactive toy/s.

I was interested in this until they dropped the toys i must admit, i do like my machines to have interactive toys.

I am holding high hopes for their next pin Aliens though, i am really hoping that turns out well.

Quote from Dennis himself which could upset a few supporters, gotta wonder why:

"I have decided to end my relationship with Heighway Pinball. I am not the game designer on the Alien project. I made the initial playfield drawing and created concepts for 4 new playfield toys. The drawing can change drastically as the game develops. Andrew announced that the game would be ready in April and I can't possibly agree with this. I've seen the video that he submitted to FOX and if the game turns out anything like this it will be great."

As I posted on Pinside, storm in a teacup

Stern is the only company employing designers, all others are on a contract. Design a game and move on

Designers would be expensive to employ, especially when your startup is only producing one game every 12-18 months

I would of thought Wayne would have sent out an email about this.  I haven't heard anything from him since the email a few days before the expo.

Anyway it's up to him on what he does to promote it.

Heighway haven't mentioned anyone as a distributor, so what makes you think it's Wayne ?

I can't say I'm a fan of those modular cabinets, seems they're losing sight of design aesthetics in an attempt to standardise their production line. Its a clever approach, however, I just don't think they're very 'pretty'

Simulating their playfield in virtual software is a very smart approach.

I hope they do exceptionally well. Pinball needs more manufacturers to push design, creativity and ultimately value to the customer - especially now that the AUD is weakening against the USD. (current market estimates put it at 75c in the short term).

Interesting times ahead for pinball.

   From facebook:
"Just over five years have passed since I started Heighway Pinball Limited in my home garage. Now, the company has grown to be a multinational business with customers spread throughout the globe.
The company has faced many challenges along the way, which has culminated in our first game, Full Throttle (https://pinside.com/pinball/archive/), and our current game, Alien Pinball. I always strived to create a modern and relevant quality pinball product, with many exciting new ideas. I believe that we have fulfilled many of the goals I set for this company.
I am extremely proud of the games that we have produced. In particular, Alien Pinball is the result of tireless work, over the last three years, from a team comprising of some of the most talented and passionate pinball people I could have ever have hoped to assemble. ‘Alien’ is personally my favourite movie of all time, closely followed by ‘Aliens’. I could not be happier with the finished product and how it represents both movies.
The time has come for a change at Heighway Pinball. Substantial monies are being pumped immediately into this company by our existing investors to drive this company forward to producing hundreds of games every month within the coming months. These investors have not been actively involved in the running of the business up to this point but they bring a huge amount of pinball experience to the operating of this company. They are also very successful businessmen in their own rights. Their passion for pinball, business acumen and love of the company’s products will drive this company forwards. There are a lot of expectant customers out there who want delivery of this epic game as quickly as possible – and this is a commitment this company will now strive to deliver as soon as is possible.
As of now, I have now left Heighway Pinball and am no longer involved in any way with the company. A new management structure is already in place at the company, that is committed to delivering games to all of its customers and building the company up into becoming an important market player within the coming years. The company is being left in good hands, with the investors bringing a wealth of pinball experience into this company and everyone is committed to delivering customer games as quickly as possible.
I have not left pinball permanently – but am taking a break away from it as fresh finances and ideas drive the company forwards. I will likely still be seen at pinball/trade shows and look forward to meeting many of you again in the future.
I will no longer be contactable at andrew@heighwaypinball.com and I will not be posting here, any other pinball forums, on Facebook or on Twitter as ‘Heighway Pinball’ from now onwards.
I have met some amazing people over the last five years and would like to thank all of my customers, staff, contractors, investors, distributers and suppliers - who have shared my dream and supported myself and this company over the years. I step away from Heighway Pinball at an exciting time for the company and wish all those associated with the company all of the best for the future.
Andrew Heighway
Former CEO/Managing Director – Heighway Pinball"

Sad that another boutique manufacturer has gone under and I feel for the pinheads that may have lost money on any games.

My position on these manufacturers, since the Bumper / JJP fiasco, has always been if you cannot play a production game, don't even THINK about paying deposits or payments. There's a growing list of failures, for various different reasons. Don't get caught up in the excuses, let them work it out with their money. Don't let them use your money to fund their failures.
