Title: Air brush kit
Post by: Ford Fairlane on February 01, 2013, 01:37:03 PM
Hi guys, can someone recommend a cheap air brush kit? I'm not a pro so I don't want to spend too much. It's for spraying larger areas on play field enamel or acrylics. Suction or gravity? Nozzle size? Any advice appreciated

Thanks!

This'll do for touch ups... 0.3mm nozzle.. by pushing the needle all the way forward or by pulling it back slightly you can get lots of paint flow or very little. Also big enough to allow acrylic to flow OK.

Any of the $60 compressors will do the trick also.

This one seems exceptional value:

Youll also need one of these which regulates the air rate at the brush end... if air rate is too high then paint just goes splat on your work.. this tool gives nice fine tuning..

Most of my airbrushes are under $50 from Ebay... all work well, but if you want to go top quality then look at Paasche or Iwata brands

This is my setup, which is basically what Gavin suggested to me while I was looking around ;

Maxus Compressor is a must

Paints

I use Jo Sonja paints with flow medium. Frisket is a little harder to get. I just bought a roll and it has lasted me a while. Hope that helps !

Sorry to bump an old thread but I pretty much have the same question as the OP as I am about to take the plunge, so I was wondering if anyone had any updated suggestions.  One additional requirement I had was that I was also keen to get something that could not only be used for playfield touchups but also for a cabinet respray and also finishing playfields off with things like polyurethane or acrylic clear etc.  Can I just buy something like the above suggestions but get additional nozzles for the other purposes (i.e. clearing or cab resprays)?

I recently used one for the first time to do some back box touch ups, came up ok considering didn't spent a whole lot of time in prep work etc, i used to retail this stuff, not the cheapest but very good quality, hes local, only deals in air bush stuff compressors & Accessorizes only, hes a one guy operation, so he knows what he taking about, he also goes to all the main model shows & does live demos etc,
