Title: search function
Post by: Jimmie Dimmick on June 07, 2013, 09:52:10 AM
hey all

not sure if this is posted in the correct area but was the most relevant i could find

i am pretty sure there is a serious flaw with the search function as it generally brings up unrelated threads/posts that do not have any of they search words contained

am i missing something with the function that would make it work properly?

What are you searching for ? If you like, PM me with the search and I'll see what results I get. I may have to run maintenance on the database.

Yes.. search option is painful. If trying to find a thread and you type in the keyword, you get 50 odd pages of stuff you dont want.
Just tried " Bank A ball".. now it should come up with all reference to the game " Bank a ball" first yes??.. well first result is " Bank a ball" then after that its every post with the letter " A " in it.. and thats a lot of posts!

+1, i tried to use the search function a couple of time to find old resto threads of mine to update them.. i ended up giving up and going thru the multiple pages of resto threads, found them much quicker that way!

Yep I have had similar problems.
Sometimes I get a bit better results if I search in the titles only.

The Search function in this version of SMF is really poor. I've just done some database maintenance and it seems to be ok now.

I have had problems finding my restos in the past, I usually do a search by author narrows it down a little
