any thoughts on that one? must have some major problems if the dealer doesn't want to fix it or am I wrong in my thinking?

Yes, I'm sure you are right. He never lets a chance go by to sell for bid dollars. You can rest assured this will be a PROJECT machine.

Too much work.

The playfield has a lot of wear and would be unsuitable to recondition. Would be a good machine if you have a spare playfield,

Gosh this project went for $1009. I must be missing something here. Maybe thats why i dont have many projects in my collection. I must be looking at too low a dollar.

Id say your head is where it should be. $1000+ is too much for this project

Jeez that surprises me. I wouldn't have thought it would make those sort of dollars. I'd bid on the Roller Disco but didn't end up with it. It went for $764.89 which was a bit higher than I was willing to go on it sight unseen and without boards and displays. But who knows the playfield looked ok. Actually if you compared it to the BK playfield then it looked great in the pics. Anyone here pick it up?

I think a lot of bidders get caught up in the "heat of battle" with those 1cent auctions without approaching it objectively as to actual worth or considering the financial outlay they are in for.

Plus labour costs are grossly undervalued in pinball restoration.

Then the issue will be the amount of $$ than needs to be spent to restore the machine. Unless they are "Holy Grails", then it is best to stay out of the bidding wars.

About 100hrs plus parts  %$%

That was one over priced pin  #@#

What's a ball park cost to restore that pin to former glory  (((

I get these questions all the time from impulse buyers that think they scored a bargain  *%*

Repro Playfield (if you can still source) - $900 + Shipping to Australia $200 = $1100
Labor charge to swap over playfield - $1200 ish for a SYS6 or SYS7 game = $1200
NOS Backglass - $400 + Shipping $250 = $650
Plastics set, New legs, flipper kits and other parts - $500 ish
Restoration time excluding playfield - 30 hours @ $55 ph
Boards refurbished - unknown until on test bench.

Project machines are sold by all dealers because they are cost prohibitive to restore and they don't have the skills or time to restore these games. It is a good business decision to sell as projects. Start them at $1 and hopefully the bidding will be fair and honest.

This game would be lucky to be worth $500 tops. For a $1000, there's no way it can be restored to make a profit. So I assume it went to an owner that has this title as a "Holy Grail", and money is no object.

A standard Black Knight value would be $2200.
A Restored BK could fetch up to $3500 ish

Bought it sight unseen, not 100% on those details, did notice the serial # on the front, means jack anyway, repaint who knows, as long as it's done ok

well draggin this old thread up, its been a long journey since july 2013 finally its here to be picked up, have had a lot of issues along the way, It crossed my mind to dump the pin there & count my losses pretty much over it, buying OS site unseen is a nerve racking experience, imported a few cars before & never been 100% with the description stated but lucky enoff to be reasonable cars, for me this is my grail pin & hoping it turns out ok, will post up some pics TMO wait & see  #@#

A nice example of a classic. Black Knight was released when video games were starting to take over in arcades and it certainly gave pinball a new lease of life. Many first-on-a-pinball features make BK a collector's keeper. Well worth the wait.

Wow wee. That looks like a very nice example you got yourself. Just like a car, having the paperwork included in good condition is a sign of a cared for machine.

Here are the decals I got done for my BK, bit different to the originals but I think these are better.
