Title: 1930s Atlas / Gottlieb Grip Tester
Post by: ddstoys on November 08, 2013, 06:52:21 PM
Thought some of you might like my latest addition to the restoration que.
Its a 1930s Atlas / Gottlieb Grip tester I'm very excited about this one it needs a complete restore and there is zero reason not to which is great the last few old girls I picked up to restore were in to good original condition to restore.

Very cool.

Imagine if you guys combined all your stuff and had a travelling coin operated museum.  It would be awesome.

Hey Millsy
You put your penny in and squeeze the handle the harder you squeeze it the higher the gauge goes.
There is a bell that if you reach a certain strength it rings a bell.

There is a cool video on you tube with a restored one its beautiful

Small update on this one.   All parts have been stripped back to individual pieces after being soaked in wd40 was just a massive pile of rust inside.

The handles and coin entry have been sent of to the chrome platers and the red housing is being painted by Stewy a local panel beater as a payment for a pin repair.  I wanted to do it myself but when he offered I figured that way it might actually get painted lol

Yes couldn't be to many left.

Roger from crow river trading sells the decals and was nice enough to modify them from 1 cent to 1 penny to suit my Aussie coin entry which was great.

Ill dig them out and post a photo I can't wait to stick them to the freshly painted case

A huge huge thank you to Eltimbo and Stewie I got my freshly painted casing and rechromed handle and coin insert back today was to nervous to hand my irreplaceable parts to someone i don't know so Tim sent them to his regular chrome plater everything came back and looks great.  And Stewart has done an amazing job respraying the casing I  have him some basic instructions I want it to loo like something from 1930 and the color he chose POW COULDNT have chosen a better red....

Here is a photo of the Unit test assembled with the decals fitted sadly couldn't finish it it needs some extra strengthening brackets on the handle from the inside but not to far away from being finished

Don't ask to see the other side I slipped with the decal and completely stuffed it.   Hopefully the guy does single replacement not just complete sets

Thanks Faza no I don't even look on ebay anymore lol.  But I'm glad you pointed it out as my back door was missing so I can copy that one.

Exactly the same as mine I think atlas and gottlieb are the same people I've seen a few of the same machine with different branding

ok I have to know.. how do you get rid of all that rust??
Title: Re: 1930s Atlas / Gottlieb Grip Tester
Post by: ddstoys on March 30, 2014, 10:17:58 PM
Lots and lots of wd40'and elbow grease mate.

Wire brush in my angle grinder is usually my first step once I get as much off each piece I coat it with ranex rust converter then hit it with a coat of silver rust kill paint ;)

Amazing work mate. Always good to see before and after shots to give people a real indication of the work that goes into it as well as the true transformation of the piece.
