Stern Pinball Announces Partnership with Ford Motor Company

World’s Leading Maker of Arcade-Quality Pinball Celebrates 50 Years of Ford Mustang with Newest Machine
MELROSE PARK, IL – December 5, 2013 – Stern Pinball, Inc., the world’s leading maker of real pinball games, proudly announced today the merging of two American icons. Get ready to start your engines and celebrate 50 years of Mustang. The Mustang pinball machine, exclusive to Ford, drops players into the driver’s seat of one of the hottest cars on the street. Narrated by professional racing driver, Tanner Foust, this machine sets the tone for a fast paced, white-knuckle game. The game comes equipped with top-of-the-line features including artwork painted by famed Ford GT designer, Camilo Pardo, and the ultimate soundtrack from Sony Music featuring five decades of hits.
“The Mustang is one of the most iconic, American cars ever made,” said Gary Stern, Chairman and CEO of Stern Pinball, Inc. “What better way to celebrate 50 years of Mustang than with the launch of the Ford Mustang pinball game? Everyone at Stern is buzzing with excitement about this launch. From the artwork and game features to the stellar soundtrack, we have created a tribute that will make Mustang and pinball fans worldwide proud.”
Mark Bentley, Ford Global Brand Licensing says, “Ford Motor Company is extremely excited to partner with Stern Pinball on this state-of-the-art Mustang pinball machine. Both Stern and Ford are proud American companies with industry leading, iconic brands. Pinball aficionados from around the globe will appreciate the unique blend of Mustang heritage and Stern craftsmanship in this fantastic machine.”
The Ford Mustang game continues the Stern Pinball tradition of producing quality pinball machines for young and old. The company traces its lineage to the 1930’s in Philadelphia when Sam Stern entered the business of operating pinball games. Sam subsequently became part owner and president of Williams Manufacturing, a pioneer in the pinball industry, and passed his lifelong enthusiasm for the game and the business of pinball to his son, Gary, who founded Stern Pinball. Today pinball remains one of the world’s favorite pastimes.
Pricing and Availability:
Availability and pricing will be announced in early 2014. To learn more about the Ford Mustang pinball machine and Stern Pinball, please visit www.sternpinball.com.

Sounds like they are going to incorporate Music through the eras, from Sony. Lots of possibilities.

Stern is really tapping into the minds and desires of the Baby Boomers right now.

Brilliant theme. Car themes are always a winner. I know a few guys that will buy anything with a "ford" logo on it.. I'm glad Stern have looked for licenses outside of music and movies for a change.

Hopefully the artwork will be along the lines of Metallica - not Photoshopped images.

I agree Nino.  Hopefully Stern have listened to their customer base and stick with hand drawn art.  If done correctly this should be another winner.  Lots of scope for mods too!

cars is not a popular topic at he moment hearing about Holden, Toyota and previously ford in oz. But you're right a car theme might be the go as long as its not photos galore.

it's a smart move, as there are over 3000 Ford dealers in the states, imagine a Mustang pin in every dealer, then the people that come to buy a Mustang are exposed to pinball and a mustang pin at that and they buy both.

Just they might have to do a better job on having the code complete and don't want quality issues like leds flying out lol.

YES.
Going to buy one if I can. Pro models are my liking - best bang for ya buck.

I have been a FORD man all my life. Love the USA 1970/1971 Yellow slant back mustang with the 351 4V motor in the ORIGINAL "Gone in 60 seconds movie". That got my blood pumping. The later movie remake with that silver mutant Shelby thing was crap compared to he original movie release. Original was basic but showed the real car driving at 160 miles an hour etc. 240 to 280 klms per hr in our math.

I will put the Stern Pro Ford pinny next to my Viper Night Driving Pinball machine. Will look great together.
This title might be bigger than ACDC in the USA. Massive Ford fan base over there. As mentioned, one pinny in every Ford Dealership equals 3000 sales before Joe Public in the USA/World has a crack. Will be interesting . Great times ahead.  ^^^

and they are bringing them to Aus as well so smart thinking for Stern as there could be a deal for a pin in every ford dealer around the world - that will bring the pinheads out of the wood work to find and play.

The Mustang should be a great pin. I am a Chrysler/ Dodge/ Cuda/ Mopar fan since the early 70s. My dad worked for Ford for 30 years and has a lot of Ford collectibles and bits and pieces. Might have to buy one of these for old time memories.

that viper photo is from the net,not actually my machine,  but my Viper Night Drivin is just as good.

love that 71 mustang. u can buy them so so cheap in the USA. Work the 351 4V and u have a missile on 4 tyres.
I almost bought one that was converted to right hand drive properly from a tongan guy in the same yellow colour a few yrs ago for $12 grand. He was a bad gambler.
But the people he played cards with took it before I could get my fingers on it. It was very nice too. Oneday I will find one.
That 71 Stang and the 1977 454 black Pontiac transam firebird that Burt Reynolds drove in that famous movie Smokey n the bandit.

Stern released a lot of press stuff today on their facebook and Stern USA website.

George Gomez says that John Trudeau is the designer for this game, and in fact George only approved Johns final design etc,.

So if u are a fan of ant John Trudeau's machines, then have a relook at the Stern site n check out more info on the Mustang Pinball.

Mustang only replacing and going into the Ford lineup as a muscle sports car. (not replacing falcon at all).

When FPV (Ford Performance Vehicles) a company that was not actually owned by Ford, but the company Tickford sold its Ford enhancing business to with Fords approval went broke, there was a licencing court case that dragged on for the last few years so u have seen the XR8 logo disappear and the GT logo disappear, but replaced with a GS named supercharged 5.0 litre 390 kilowatt car etc etc. The GS goes back to late 70 model cars and stands for Grand Sports.

The mustang was brought in to plug a hole in the Ford performance stable till the FPV case gets settled.
XR8's and GT and GTHO brand names appearing back in late 2014/early 2015.

facon will be made overseas somewhere from Oct 2016

goodbye holden, goodbye Ford, pls keep Toyota Australia going.......but they say if holden n ford go, all the companies that supply parts to the big three will go broke n some say Toyota cant keep going profitably with the car industry dead that supplies n makes support parts to the car industry.

6 cylinder cars are reputed these days to use too much petrol etc  etc etc. but the ride of a brand new Ford and some new commodores (I hate commodores) is so nice, its worth the extra $$$ to buy a big family car with plenty of grunt. 351 Ford V8 in 1981 had 160 kw. Fords starting with BA six cylinder had 196 klwatt.

People like to buy a 4 cylinder which just sux, or if u buy a performance car, its a turbo or supercharged six or V8....poor old straight six or V6 are just not so popular although they are best bang for ya buck missiles on 4 tyres....shame times have changed to junky imports with lousy 2 litre motors mostly everywhere. Even modern 4 wheel drives come with 2.0 litre motors that couldn't pull the skin off a rice custard.

I love my Ford straight Six late BA Red Wagon. With a few enhancements its very quick.
Wouldn't mind a mustang to go with the Mustang pinny though.lol  *%*

I think same translate when u look hard, but just the lighting from the flash. All the outlines look identical on the backglass to the others.

This pin could be bigger than ACDC was. Dam shame we will never really know the real figures unless Ford wants Stern to list the numbers publically.

ie- Stern's Ford Mustang sales hit 10,000. Ford USA also announces great sales numbers for the 2015 Mustang.

"Whether you are playing with your Mustang in the garage, (picture of Stern Mustang Pinny) or whether you are playing with your 2015 Mustang (pictured) on the curves of an open road, Mustang is the car for you". (typical press release stuff etc). Every home deserves a Mustang. Get into your Ford Dealer now".)etc
It woulds be good to see real Stern numbers.

Wonder if Stern USA will have a 2015 Mustang out front of their factory for a while.

Picking up a Mustang pinny and a 2015 Mustang in the same year would be any mans dream come true......

I was told by a friend at Stern that the Mustang Pro was released MUCH earlier this time to co-incide with the deadline FORD had because they were releasing the new Mustang in the USA last month at various motorshows.

Hence, the lack of current info on the Premium or LE Mustang Versions. I think Stern is doing double the LE this time with a min of 1000 LE Shelby GT Pinball units. I also hear that if the 1000 LE units sell, there is a second LE with only 250 or 500 to come after that. (sort of like the 2 versions of the Premium Metallica, but this time a second LE.

I also hear on the grapevine the 1000 LE Shelby pinnies are already accounted for in full by the various Stern dealers around the world. Exciting times as I see it.

Personally I miss the "old" days of 2007 when Stern would just quietly site a test machine in an undisclosed location and get honest feedback by cracking open the coin box at the end of the month.

These compulsory registration launch parties attended by the usual suspects seems more like a case of the tail wagging the dog to me, as they largely exclude anyone who doesn't have a vested (or pecuniary) interest in the machine's reputation.

When AMD in Sydney has a launch party for the release of any pinball machine, Bruce (Managing Director) and his staff warmly welcome ANYBODY on the planet to attend and give honest feedback.

When I have attended and met all different pinheads from all over Australia, its usually a 50/50 mix of blokes who are IN the industry (operators who site machines) and the usual home collector. I have found, that each n every time there is a release party, there are always new people there, some who have no machines, some with 3 or 4 machines, some with fifty etc, but everyone gets along, has a play, has a good chat, gives honest feedback in a respectful way, and it is always far from a "yes man" party/atmosphere.

What the consensus is, from my experience, is that a 75/25 split have great feedback on the machine, with three quarters of the people loving the new title, and a quarter being warm/cold. And why it has worked so well, is that the Stern dealers always know, that if you don't buy this title, its fine, no problems, cause they will help u out on the next title because Stern do 3 or 4 titles and over a dozen variants per annum. So there is never any pressure to buy, just a warm welcome which is why I have great respect for Bruce and the guys at AMD, always very professional, and always open to any feedback, good or bad.

If anybody hasn't been to a new title release at AMD in Sydney, its definitely worth the $99 airplane ticket to attend if u are interstate.

Personally, I really am dying to hear the finished audio on Mustang pinball. If its done right, it shld be a ripper. Just my 10 cents worth.lol

What the consensus is, from my experience, is that a 75/25 split have great feedback on the

AMD is 5 mins from Sydney Airport. Tiger Airways is cheapest usually, or Virgin if they are doing specials. Book some few weeks in advance and score really cheap flights to and from.

You could get a bed at one of those Formulae 1 motels near the airport for about $100 I reckon. Add the taxi to and from AMD $50.

For $500 u can get a high class hooker, the best bottle of scotch/whiskey/bourbon and have a gourmet chineese meal etc thrown in.lol

I love beautiful motels (upmarket with a spa etc etc) but even I wouldn't spend soo much on a motel unless I had a high class lady with me.lol  *)*
But then again, u only live once so it doesn't hurt to splurge on a very nice room if u can take advantage of it and make it a night to remember.

I don't mind the look of the speaker grill of the premium I think as well, also has a few creature features with the whirlpool ramp and the drop down ramp in the top left. Has a captured ball donut pit as well top right and mid playfield drop targets. The pro is missing out on a few things on this one.

Cant wait to see them in person. Pro versus Premium versus LE.  Swinksy, those pictures are great so far. Bring on the full releases and when Stern uploads heaps more photos in hi-res to their Stern/Games page/site.

Go Ford. Go Stern. Go AMD !

Is it me or is that PF less red and more blue than the pro? Not counting the car toy, of course.
Looks a lot nicer, IMO. A LOT nicer.

The Premium backglass looks a little plain, but my friend at Stern told me the colours pop a lot better than the low res photos currently show with additional artworks added/not seen as yet.

Still salivating at seeing the three different models in person (Pro Premium LE)

I think there are going to be a lot of MODS u can add to any of these Ford-Mustang pinnys.

At a quick glance, maybe chrome legs n lockdown bars on a few, hard to say til u see the original standing in front of you.

Hornet yellow powdercoating to all hinges, lockdown bar and legs might look the goods on the Premuim.

A few well placed ford badges added here and there to add bling. Mirror blades, add an extra mustang car to the playfield ramps etc, just go the toy shops scaled down section for the right one.

Toppers for the 3 titles - Neon Ford Signage, or you could add one of those V8 motors u see for sale about 30cms x 30 cms etc all chromed up n add a few flashs to it.

So many great mods already for these titles. Soon we get to see the Pro n Premium n Le in their glory.
Even a few Holden Fans who are pinball collectors have told me they have put the coin down on a few Pros. Interesting if Holden fans are also joining in... ^^^

Played all 3 versions of the Mustang pinball and I felt that the Mustang Pro was a excellent game.
I didn't feel like I would need to spend more than the cost of the Pro to get a excellent game.

The lightshow on the Mustang Pro was stunning. The insert colours were amazing. The traffic light looking section was a standout and the whole playfield lighting and inserts with LEDs etc was just eye candy to say the least.
I really enjoyed the game on the Pro.
I want to buy one I liked it that much. The translite art was excellent. The cabinet art was basic and I would have wanted more but the gameplay and audio and lightshow and flow was great.
Stern have done a great job on this Pro. The modes and winning different model cars was a excellent fun feature.
The playfield lit up is eye candy for sure.

Really enjoyed the Mustang Pro. It has alot going for it.
Such an attractive lit playfield and I am still blown away by the insert led colours.
Got to save some $$ and get one before they stop making them. It's always the way, every nice machine you play, you want to buy. Pinball addiction at its usual. Lol

Went and played Mustang Pro again today and the more I play it the more I enjoy it.

Has any member here bought one in any configuration ?

AMD didn't sell as many as they would have liked to Home Use Only owners because it's very American but I think this title will get a second wind espescially on the 2nd hand market in Australia like Ironman did/has.
Theme aside, the Playfield has a excellent feel and flow to it.
For John Trudeau,s first game out in 15 years, he did an amazing job.

If u get a chance to play the Pro, jump at it cause it's a fun machine.

I have an LE model and I can say that I really enjoy it.  With the new code it is quite challenging.  This is a keeper for me and it is unlikely I would move this pin on anytime soon.

I don't mind it as well.  I think part of the problem we pinheads have is that we look for every game to the the greatest game ever.  Mustang is not the most memorable game, but it is not a bad game.

We rate all games against the likes of Twilight Zone, and forget to also consider rating them against the likes of Rolling Stones.

Even slagging off Rollings Stones, if I came across it on location, I'd be happy to play it.  Ultimately it's all pinball and it's all good, but some games are not as good as others.

went and played one today at a local timezone, paid for one game and won 6 games so got great value for my $2.

It was quite a fun game and seemed to be newer code since I played a earlier one. The modes change with each car challenge with no ramp or with ramp and the first song was a classic beachie song which was cool.

Cool pin and would be a nice one to add a few nice mods to.

I don't quite get why Mustang gets such a bad rap - can only really put it down to the theme not being everyone's cup of tea. Rolling Stones - well I have had a bit of a laugh at it (at least half tongue-in-cheek), but I have played it & on location would definitely play it. At least it's different, even if after a few games you want to take the glass off & belt mick lol.

Not quite on this Mustang thread, but...

I've played a bit of Avengers LE at Melbourne Luna Park recently.  I love it - that is also given a bad wrap.  It definitely has issues regarding bad visibility in a few spots, and the ball being trapped.  But when its all working, its not bad.  Many shots are hard to hit, but I like that.

Yes, I have the Hulk LE and love bashing the balls and making the tight shots especially Black Widow. It is a great game and unless you can push it to beyond 10 minutes play per game, you can not appreciate the deep rule set. It is a great multi ball player.

I am sure that games like Mustang and Avengers do not get the due respect. If you play one or two games in the wild, you will not even touch the tip of the iceberg so to speak. Home use players have the luxury of playing these games to their full potential and trying different things on free play (well once you get over the NIB price shock).

I am hoping to do decent videos of the games I have one of these days.

John Trudeaus first pin back at Stern being Mustang was a cracker.
The artwork Ford designed on the Pro cabinet isnt as cutting edge as I would have liked but the game itself and lightshow on the Playfield is stunning in a low lit room. A good fun game with plenty of great shots.

I agree about getting to know a game at home versus on location. You get a lot more intimate (not in a weird way) when it's yours and you can explore every inch of it at home. Feeling rushed when playing a game onsite makes u miss a lot of the games personality. If Stern did a Chevy pin, maybe it would be a hit as well.

Is this game available to play anywhere in Melbourne?

A bit late but in Broadmeadows shopping centre arcade - across from the theatre. It's an LE and plays flawlessly.
