Title: Making a Fish Tales Topper
Post by: andtan on March 03, 2015, 10:14:47 PM
My next project pin is going to be a Fish Tales, however I've found that many of the ones I've seen lately don't seem to have the topper.

Rather than hold out for one that has a topper - I've started to make one. Almost all of the parts are available except for a few, such as; the wooden board, 5-lamp PCB, wiring harness, and topper translite.

With some help from Shaneo (member on here) I was able to scan his topper backboard and get my brother to make a file and cut one out on his CNC machine. Shaneo has also scanned the translite, so that should be ready once we find the correct material to get it printed on.

At this point the only difficult thing is the 5-lamp topper PCB (Part # 5768-13228-00) - does anyone have a spare one of these collecting dust that they are willing to part with before I look at trying to make one?

The only other thing I have to do is make up a wiring harness, - again, anyone has a spare one they'd like to part with?

Here's a couple of pictures of the progress so far, and of the PCB. Once I've finished it I'll put some more photos up.

Cheers,

Andy

I like your dedication.
Why people remove the toppers is beyond me.
The toppers are excellent on Fishtales.
I just wish it sang and moved like those almost identical battery powered fish you used to see a lot at various stores.
(Singing- take me to the river)
Wish I could find one of those videos. They were so cool !

I agree the factory toppers are awesome especially WH20 and FT why in the hell remove it? Some after market toppers are disgraceful :)

Restrictive ceiling heights.

Or in the case of WH2O stolen and resold.

Never thought about the ceiling heights. Very good point.
Dr Who toppers always seem to be in high demand.

I wish there was a Dalek that screamed "Exterminate Exterminate" as people tried unscrewing the topper. Lol
Maybe even a Darlek electric shock of 240 volts might be worthwhile watching as well. Lol

LOL, that would make a great Topper for Fish Tales, if I had a FT without a topper I reckon I would mount one of those novelty ones on there for sure!! :)

Cheers: Brettski... :)

Good morning.  I am working on assembling a fish topper and I was wondering if you could share the scans of the translite?   It would be greatly appreciated!

Hey @nato812

I didn't continue along with printing out a topper translite as I actually got a Fish Tales with a topper. In fact, I don't believe that I even got the scans off @Shaneo.

Cheers,

Andy
