Title: RTTB Update
Post by: Strangeways on March 15, 2015, 07:12:21 PM
In response to the many emails, PMs and calls in relation to RTTB and it's future, I'm happy to announce that RTBB will be up and running as soon as some loose ends are finalized.

Greg was the sole reason pinball parts became affordable in Australia. For those customers holding out and waiting for the site to return from it's fishing trip, the wait is almost over.

The most pleasing aspect of the news is that Greg's vision and legacy will be continued by pinball people who are genuinely interested in the preservation of pinball, the promotion of the hobby and the people who play the games. The family understand the respect and integrity that Greg has in the industry, so the decision to continue was a straight forward one.

All existing distributorships will continue with RTBB. There is a change of ownership, but please be patient while this is worked through.

Stay tuned for more details next week. Sleeves are being rolled up as I type this !

Announcement should be made in the next week or so. These things take time. The thread is more to let the members and public know that RTBB will be re-launched. Greg's legacy will be carried on.

The RTBB website will be live at some point in the next few days. It should be "business as usual", but please be patient as there will be a "learning curve" with the site.

The site will be run very similar to the way Greg ran the show - which was with efficiency and a business acumen second to none ! It will be very difficult to fill his shoes.

The site ownership will be changed into my name. This will take time, as there are a lot of hoops to run through. RTBB will be run separate from my restoration business, but will still be run like a family business - which is exactly what his family have requested, and also what I'm comfortable with.

We will be using the former email accounts - "sales@rtbb.com.au". Feel free to contact us.

Well done Nino.

You are going to be busy with APR and RTBB.
You need to clone yourself now like that movie Multiplicity with that funny actor who was the same lead role in Beetlejuice. Four  Ninos running around Victoria. This will be a cool site.

BTW - Thanks to ALL the members that have been supportive and loyal to RTBB. I've heard many, many stories of loyal customers either holding out for news, or being forced overseas. We are still disorganized - there's A LOT that needs to be done, and a LOT of re ordering. The good news is also that ALL the suppliers chose to stick with RTBB. There are few more coming on board - but we want to be more organized and run the business as its own entity for 6 months and then see where it takes us.

In the darkest days since our friend's passing, we always knew that RTBB HAD to continue. Today is one of the easiest days, as this is exactly what Greg would have wanted. It is what his family wanted. It is a HUGE relief. Now there is a lot of work ahead, and some VERY big shoes to fill. As mentioned earlier - I'll need to work on my sense of humor, but I'll never equal the sharp wit of Greg !

This is great news. After having just stripped & repopulated my first playfield I am already sick of the price gouging, high postage & in one case a handling charge (wtf!) by some Australian pinball parts sellers. In fact I bought most of my parts from overseas - worked out significantly cheaper (& top quality). Very glad to see RTTB continuing  ^^^

A common theme. Greg was instrumental in ensuring that pinball collectors, hobbyists and businesses were more important than profits. I find it hard to believe he did this as a "hobby". He was amazingly organized. A real tribute to him. As each day passes, it becomes easier with the knowledge that the pinball people he called his friends are still being looked after.

Just a quick update - A steady flow of orders were processed over the Easter Break - No days off for 10 days running JUST on orders. Over 50 orders, and another 5 NEW orders this morning. I was hoping to have caught up, but they are still coming in. Thanks to everyone for their patience. A couple more distributorships jumping on board once this settles down.

Hopefully, I will be back on to Pinball Restoration work this week !

Well done Nino - honestly, well done! A big undertaking but so important for Australian pinballers. Added competition, access to fairly priced parts, a continuation of Greg's legacy & I suspect in the long run (hopefully) a good business outcome for you as well - all these should be the end result of your efforts.   ^^^  And I give you my word you are the only domestic supplier from the current bunch that I will buy from. The photo on the RTBB website is the old style - These are similar to the original Bally SS and Gottlieb. Earlier Bally EM style is wider.

The new ones we just received are thicker in the metal and also the threads are deeper - I'll take a picture - reminds me to update the photo !

Would be ironic if another parts seller commented on RTBB being "expensive". I wonder if it would be the parts seller that doubled and tripled their prices on selected discounted RTBB products when the site was down ? Again, ironic that the parts sellers raising their prices was one of the main reasons we chose to continue RTBB. Seems we are ruffling a few feathers !

My feathers are ruffled after spending EVERY day (except Easter Sunday) filling orders !

Again, thanks so much for the support. It has been amazing !

Exactly 2 weeks since RTBB was re-lauched. Over 50 orders processed and posted out. Ramps going to just about all states without a scratch. Great feedback on packaging, I just need to work on processing orders faster. The RTBB website has a lot of parts that are not loaded up yet. Here's a quick update ;

Almost all suppliers that RTBB worked with are staying with RTBB.
There has been five suppliers that have approached RTBB to act as their distributor.
A MASSIVE Ramp order is about to be placed - so keep your eyes peeled on the Ramp section and if you need something that is not listed - let us know.
A MASSIVE general re order is being placed to restock the bigger selling items (Ramps, cliffys, flipper kits).

We are looking at Paypal as a permanent payment method. You CAN pay via Paypal next week - BUT - Buyer absorbs all costs. The LAST thing we want to do is increase prices to cover Paypal for buyers that enjoy the current system of Direct Deposits.

Pick Up of orders is now available. That is only AFTER ordering via the website.

I have not worked on any pinballs since re launching the website. Next week I'll be catching up with the backlog of pinball work.

Thanks to ALL that have supported RTBB over the years and THANKS to all the members that have remained loyal.

Cliff and I have had a few emails about the Aussie customers asking about who will distribute the genuine Cliffys. Simply post what you would like and I'll restock them. I have a feeling it is the TRON Cliffys as I've sold out !

If any members need anything - please let me know - Next week I'll be back on the resto queue but I will be ordering a LOT of parts !

Thanks for the kind words. I have big shoes to fill. I'm VERY lucky as I've had a lot of help from suppliers overseas. James (Pinballace) has been a great shoulder to lean on for support. There's just not enough hours in the day. I'm over SEVENTY orders since the 31st of March. I left work for dinner tonight and returned to find another 4 orders. It IS almost a full time job. I know why Greg went "fishing" every 2-3 months.

It's actually meant to read "RTBB" (typo in the thread title), which stands for Ride the Boney Beast, a call out from Greg's favorite game, Scared Stiff.

Just a quick RTBB order story......

I placed an order last Friday, and as always remembered a few hours later that I forgot to include some items  @.@.

I sent an e-mail to Nino, begging for forgiveness, and asking if I could include the other items with my order. Got a prompt reply, and yesterday got an email advising that the combined orders had been posted. This morning at 10.30 the order arrived at my door, which is super fast as usually things take a bit longer to get to Canberra.

It's probably been said before, but Nino, you're doing an awesome job!! I really appreciate that you took on RTBB, as it was always my go to place to get parts.  ^^^ ^^^ ^^^

Thanks Andy - It has been an interesting start to the process. I'm glad that most customers are happy. There have been a few that have ordered and then demanded that I ship on the same day - I know why Greg would sometimes go on Fishing Trips.

Ramps that have just arrived ;

Scared Stiff - Bat Ramp
Scared Stiff - Main Ramp
ST TNG Delta
ST TNG Alpha
Addams Family

Several more arriving next week / week after

CFTBL Bowl
IJ Main
ST TNG Beta

Lots of new releases have arrived (parts). Some really cool stuff that i will load up as soon as bling photos done !

Nino, I don't know who has the rights to demo man ramps but if you ever get a chance to stock some it might pay you to grab them (basically all of them are hard to get except the under p/p popper) - I think you'd move them on pretty quick. It may be the case nobody is making repros yet but most of the NOS are gone & there's very few dm's around without at least one cracked or chipped ramp.

It all depends on the tooling. If the original tooling is still in existence, then Starship Fantasies should have the moulds. I can ask James if the moulds exist. If the tooling is not available, then if there is demand, then they can be made. There's a lot of organizing to do when reproducing a ramp. Quality is the biggest concern, and PinballInc & Starship Fantasies will only release a quality product.

Thanks Nino - interesting to hear how this works - I could never work out why it's possible to find a full ramp set for, for example, Dr Who, but nada for Demo Man.

Hi Nino,

Any chance of RTBB becoming a distributor for silicon rubbers of all sizes =9]http://www.titanpinball.com/products_results.php?Search=1&ProductCategoryID[]=9 (http://www.titanpinball.com/products_results.php?Search=1&ProductCategoryID[)  ?

I would be interested in giving these a go

Possibly.

I say that because I THOUGHT I had been in touch with all the suppliers that RTBB were already Distributor with. Seems there were more that were in the pipeworks that I recently found out about. I need to catch up with the others first, but anything is possible.

A local distributor for ColorDMD would be great - postage kills these, and now with the $A if you order 2 you're over $1000 and liable for GST, so it offsets the postage saving. They are coming out with many more titles this year so ai'm sure would sell well.

Ohhh yeah, that would be fantastic. Maybe if Nino could get a commitment from a few people he might be able to get a bulk discount of we got 20, 30 or even 50 people interested?

Oh and while he is at it, maybe look at the pinsound boards....

We'd be in for colordmd's and pinsounds too. Great ideas if economies of scale could be had. Heck even pdi optical glass would be a killer option ;)

ColorDMD. +1

Only a matter of time before I get one for TSPP....Once that happens, i'll want one for AC/DC and Metallica.....then Tron and Family Guy whenever they make them in the future. Food for thought, Nino.

There's already some movement on these products, but I need time, time, time and time !

Sounds good! I'm saving my pennies for a ColorDMD. This plan could come together.

I've actually been holding off getting a Colour DMD for my Metallica LE and ACDC LE as I have 2 other machines between them that they ( Colour DMD ) haven't done yet . Avengers LE and Tron LE .  If RTBB was to become a distributor for these which meant a significant saving on freight etc.  then I'm not sure I'd be able to hold off any longer .

There's too many other Distributorships that we are in contact with - the limited time I have to devote to new distributorships is becoming a problem, so I won't be looking at ColorDMD at this time.
