The above is the official announcement for this event.

The donations from members of both forums will be used to fund the trophies for this event. Hopefully it will last a few years.

If you have any kids interested in pinball, bring them along and get them interested in Pinball. Greg had a special interest in encouraging kids to play pinball - not to win, but to participate and enjoy other kid's company.

We will have at least one of Greg's personal machines as part of the comp. Hope to see you all there.

I take you are organising this Nino?  Have you nominated it as an IFPA point earning tornament?  (IFPA points attract players).

No doubt I will get flamed for my thoughts but I am a bit disappointed with this.

1 - This is not what I donated money for.  When I donated money it was advertised as funds that would be used to give something for Greg's family from all of us.  I understand that this may have been Greg's passion but it is not what I thought I was contributing to.

2 - Less than a months notice for the event and with business commitments I can't even get myself or my kids there to take part anyway.

Not loving pinball at all anymore.

No - I'm not directly organizing the event. James Angliss is the organizer. We have merely added the Junior event into the existing comp.

I called several organizers months ago, and he was very keen to have the "Junior Cup" as part of his annual event. We had looked briefly at other events, but one was too far away for the family to travel, and other was "too big" to include our event.

I have copied and pasted James' original announcement. I understand it is fully endorsed by the IFPA etc etc. I don't understand most of this because I've never attended a comp, but James has been very supportive of getting this off the ground. It has taken so long to organize as I've been overwhelmed with work and also the Berry family needed "space" for a period of time before we had the first event honoring Greg.

1 - Incorrect - Here is a direct quote from the thread http://aussiepinball.com/index.php?topic=13475.15 (http://aussiepinball.com/index.php?topic=13475.15) ;

"We are thinking of a unique display cabinet with a part mounted from his favorite games with a plaque. The writing on the plaque can be from a "Tribute" thread"

In June, you requested an update. Here was the reply ;

"We have spoken to the family with various ideas and we have come up with something that the family and friends are all VERY happy with. There will be an announcement in late May"

Then in July, we made it public ;

"we are moving towards having an event that bears Greg's name. An annual event that will be part of an existing comp. Most likely in Melbourne at this stage. The donations will be used to fund the trophies in the event"

In a nutshell - We took initial idea of plaques to the family and they liked it. We were thinking of designs etc and then the suggestion from Marty was to hold an event in a comp to honor Greg. We took this idea to the family and they LOVED it MORE than than the plaque idea. A Competition would bring together his family and friends to celebrate Greg and pinball. To meet each year and have an event was far more important to them. Greg followed his Zac Foster and was always telling me how great this kid is. So the idea to have the event annually was something we just had to do. The competition winner will have his or her photo mounted on a small plaque and presented to the family each year. The donations would fund the trophies - that was common knowledge in JULY.

2 - I run two business' that are both so far behind it is not funny. I work at least 10 hours a day 7 days a week. I've had to deal with my own stuff and organize the tribute for Greg (whether it was plaques of the event). James contacted me in the middle of last week with the idea of the comp being on that nominated weekend. Completely out of my control. I didn't choose the dates, but I had to make a decision to do something "soon" as I am aware people want to see "something" as a tribute for Greg, as the donations were given quite some time ago. I'm sure there are a minority of donators that don't trust me and NEED to see tangible evidence that I've not run off to the Bahamas.

I'll look through the donations and refund yours if it is what you would prefer.

Thanks Nino for the efforts, I know how difficult this is on many levels.

Now I've got to get my girls practicing so they don't embarrass the old man!!

I spoke to Greg's sister Deb today and she was thrilled about this event. We are hoping most of the family turn up on the Sunday, and Greg's best friend Nikki Foster and talented son Zac might be there as well.

The family have given permission for us to provide some of Greg's personal games for the weekend's competition.

Saturday was a round of qualifiers that lasted from 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM. There were a few games I had not played - including a Wrestlemania LE. It was a great day, and I met a whole new breed of pinheads that LOVED the competitive side of the hobby. It was a welcoming atmosphere in a well organized competition.

Sunday was the inaugural "Greg Berry Cup" in honor of our great friend and colleague Greg Berry. I was concerned that there would not be enough kids interested, but they came from everywhere. I think there were 10-12 kids from all age groups. All of them enjoyed the fact that they were able to play all the games without waiting for the adults "hogging" the games.

Zack Foster narrowly won the Competition. It was a fitting result as Zack in the Son of Nikki and Grant Foster who were very close to Greg and his family. All the kids deserved an award just for participating and enjoying time outside of their console games and the internet ! The Berry family were in attendance on the Sunday and were very proud and pleased to have a small part of the weekend devoted to "kids playing pinball". It was a very special day for everyone involved.

Personally, I had a great time and met a lot of very keen and enthusiastic pinball players. I can't remember having so much enjoyment with people I hardly knew.

Special thanks to James and Luke who ran a brilliant competition over two days. That's to Marco for helping me with the games we brought in for the event.

We will be having the Kids Competition every year to coincide with this event. We need to get MORE kids involved and this is a great opportunity for them to participate. For those that have not been to one of these events, be sure to try it at least once. It has a different angle to our great hobby and pastime.

I popped down to watch the GSB Jr Cup.  Was great to spend the arvo with Greg's family and watch the final.  All the kids looked to have had a blast and was a well run event at a great spot.  Well done and thanks to the organisers.  The event meant a lot.

I had a great time and the event was run very well.
Watching the kids play Sunday morning was great as this is where the pinheads of the future start and I must say there's some young talent out there.
Promoting a junior event like this gets more young people into the hobby and without them the hobby would cease.

Nino, im sure Greg Berry would be proud of the work you put into this.

Now for the main event, the matchplay comp, congratulations goes to Nino for taking out first place. Well done.

Being on holidays meant I couldn't be there but was watching the live scores on the internet. I was barracking for you mate (even though I know a few of the top contenders there) throughout the event. When I saw you playing kiss and twd I thought here's a sure 1st place but sadly no. I enjoy comps but this one was more a marathon for you guys. Still a great result finishing mid field, and Marco did really well

Great to see someone's debut pinball comp come out with a win, that being Nino.

Also nice to note who came second. Jordan Tredaway is only 15 years old.  He has been doing consistently well in comps this year.  He does NOT have a pinball machine at home!  So to be one of Melbourne's top players is outstanding.

Here is how well he has done this year in competition: http://www.ifpapinball.com//player.php?p=34917 (http://www.ifpapinball.com//player.php?p=34917)

My apologies and congrats to Nino. I thought Saturday's results were it when checked late on Sunday. What a great comeback, wish the Eagles did the same in the afl

Sorry for not updating the photos etc.

The Greg Berry Junior Cup was won by Zack Foster. Second was Jordan Tredaway and third was Jordan's younger Brother (Sorry I can't remember his name). Special mention goes to Jennifer, who was younger than most competitors, but she could play pinball as well as most adults. She scored the highest individual score on Jack*Bot up until that point on Sunday. Jordan played the best ball of the comp on Jack*Bot on Sunday.

All the kids that participated had fun for 2 hours. It was well attended and most of the kids were there just to take part in the event.

This is the First Place Trophy. There was a "first Runner Up" and "second runner up".

The WINNER - Zack Foster ;

Second Place - Jordan Tredaway

Third place - Jordan's Brother (hopefully someone will remember his name)

Both Jordan and Zack played in the main competition. Jordan made it into the final, and finished second. The deciding game was played out on Gilligan's Island.

We look forward to having this competition every year and I encourage pinheads to bring along their kids - It was great fun for all involved and it is run professionally.
