Title: 30 years of Stern - Coffee Table Book - Kickstarter
Post by: swinks on October 27, 2016, 07:16:38 AM
just in case you heard about the book from the Pinhead

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/paperflock/keeping-the-ball-alive-30-years-of-stern-pinball?ref=nav_search

I did write to Joe one of the book guys and they separate to Stern but working closely with Stern, lots of photos, interviews, game design including concepts - should be a nice book

I know what you mean as this project has a strong flavor of Stern ownership / involvement but in private messaging Joe it sounds like Joe from Paperflock can get a better deal printing wise if they have enough people (backers) supporting it.

It does make you wonder why isn't Stern just paying for it but I suppose why would you if someone else can do it for you.

But it is no different to people paying up front to Homepin, Heighway, Spooky and JJP early days for game development, but since multiple people got burnt this is lessoning.

Id like the fact that Stern is not publishing the book
Id hope that all games are covered, not just the current LE models
A third party will hopefully include the designers that have moved to different conpanies

Why the kickstart? You believe in it, put your own money towards it and if sales is a concern then take deposits and save on t-shirts etc

it really is no different to AMD asking for a 50% deposit on game orders to gauge interest and determine the size of the order to place, but at least we know that Stern and AMD will deliver.

but I agree sometimes annoying with kickstarters wanting all money up front and no guarantee of delivery. I have supported about 8 kickstarters / indiegogo's and 7 delivered 100% but Pro Pinball still have not delivered 20% of my pledge from 2 years ago and now have cut communication with all their pledgers. The technical ones like laser cutters, 3d printers etc from kickstarter and indiegogo have more issues of non delivery with many upset customers similar to a Jpop kind of situation and some taking legal action against those people.

yes I did say "at least we know that Stern and AMD will deliver" but they still ask for 50%

as for paperflock maybe other industries know them and we don't
