Title: My first car almost on the road HQ Monaro
Post by: ddstoys on November 14, 2016, 01:06:50 PM
Well guys it's getting exciting now this car was going to be my first car all those years ago purchased it when I was 16 but someone decided to try
Steal it when we first moved into the city.

I started stripping it for a rebuild then got the Mrs pregnant so I pushed it into a corner an buried it.

Sorry for the shitty photos they are scans of actual photos then photos of the screen hahaha

Here's the car as I bought it.    Along with my XA coupe which we almost had finished but had to sell when the folks split up as there was only room for 1 car dad sold it to the first cash offer $800 still brings a tear to my eye lol
(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161114/82c86600de8e493b2e0da92634cd37b6.jpg)(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161114/a0050b9809036da0c7e8976fa9c8f8d4.jpg)(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161114/7676aa34ca9c36344ced2988a8304060.jpg)(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161114/80954b76df412804b062675f49fb1f22.jpg)

Here it's is when it was just a bare shell entire car outside and underneathnwas stripped to bare metal rust killed and sound deadened
(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161114/b16e8f354e363b2f57c37241605b9bbb.jpg)(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161114/090560b6457c2cdabb82bfcb2c3ac466.jpg)

Then skip forward almost 20 years
(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161114/a8e560c97e6fefec863d852533e4df1d.jpg)(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161114/325fe3a748f3097115a6cbb5d2ee4851.jpg)(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161114/3df651e177d4edc332e0b46fd510d454.jpg)

Still plenty more to do but only little things now.   It didn't really hit me or give me any excitement till a few weeks ago.  Was in bursons buying headlights etc and i picked up the flasher can and that's when it hit me.  Shit I'm getting close if I'm buying little crap like this lol.

Hey great Q

I had a 72 coupe for my first car and that looks like a late 71 or 72 though you have 73, 74 indicator lenses on it now.

I put a 327 in mine (was 253) but couldn't get insurance after that so I sold it when I got married.

Have missed it ever since.

Great to see one looking so good

Andy

Your right it's a 71 model how can you tell?    I didn't even know they had different indicators lol.   Once the front bar gets restored I'll be putting in new ones.

Didn't know about the indicators, are earlier ones clear??
I know 71's have low bucket seats and miles per hour (no km/h)

Bumper bar arrived today.   Still waiting one the missing tail light to arrive and a few other bits and pieces.

Headlights are new and working,  indicators will have all new globe sockets and lenses.

New door trims will be picked up Tuesdays which pretty much finishes the interior off

Let's just say nothing good.

The supposedly rebuilt engine was f**ked so I'm waiting on a $9000 engine rebuild only useable parts were the block and the crank YAY

COON HUNT is waiting on parts time and space

Slow progress the engine builder has started piecing the engine together after many delays.  We missed the wedding deadline but on a positive note I got to drink

Looking good will be worth the wait when its all done like having a new motor. Hope you can afford to run it though petrol was probably around the 20cent mark back in the day when this thing was made. Come to think of it our wages were probably under $100 a week back then so all relevant I guess.

Yeah and it's a little bit bigger than its standard motor from back in the day 253ci to a 400ci.    Roughly 210hp from the 253 to about 500hp from the 400 he predicts

Well today I had my first successful drive.   Have a few little issues to iron out but it's sounds great makes plenty of power.   Hopefully get the bulk of them sorted out tomorrow and finish polishing of the overspray (be careful folks that shit travels)

Managed to massage the motor to fit under the bonnet touch go well stuff had to go for a while.    No decent video of it I'm positive my family are digitally handicapped (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170730/52ebd2086ce3e20558d5baacd389eafc.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170730/59b50767eb2ea42baab6b40fadc78048.jpg)
