Title: Gottlieb 1975 Quick Draw ABC Rollover problem
Post by: millsy on February 28, 2017, 11:01:58 AM
Just about sorted out all the problems with this machine except this one.The A,B,C Lane Rollover Lights wont turn off after activating, they do score points but stay illuminated. (refer Video).

The 3 Switch stacks 1B('A'),2B('B'),3B('C') at the Sequence Bank had been wired closed (refer Pict).Removing the wire from these switches has not made any difference.

Have checked and cleaned these switches but still cant get these rollover lights to turn off. All these relays wont energize.
The only relays energizing whilst activating the lane switches are the 50 point relay and the EE relay.(refer Video)
Much the same as 4p version Fast Draw - Spots the centre ABC lights (which are'nt lighting at all)

Someone had fitted a Williams coil to 1B'A' & wired it up using flimsy electrical terminals -on removal of this coil to check it ,the wire broke off at the coil (refer pict) & will be impossible to re-attach so I have fitted the correct coil (A-1119) This did not solve the problem.

1B('A'),2B('B'),3B('C') coils still not energizing.

Noted the ‘EE’Series Relay has a A-9740 (20ohms) relay fitted - Should be a A-9733 (2ohm) relay. Presently trying to locate this relay. Pretty sure a A-9746 will do. Hopefully this solves the problem.
Stay tuned.

If you manually close the switch on the EE does this energise the coils to the lights?  Theres only one leaf switch on the stacks that operates the lights ( which im assuming is why they were wired shut?).. so.. they should go off if these leafs are opened.. if not then you have a short somewhere by passing the switches.
PM your address and ill send the 9746 coil down to you.. even if it doesn't solve the problem, its nice to eliminate it.

Pretty sure the only one leaf switch at the EE relay scores (which is working)
When 1B('A'),2B('B'),3B('C') are energized by the ball rolling over the lane switch the lights should go out but only scoring occurs & the EE relay does energize but cant get the sequence bank relays to energize. With some research have found it is critical the EE relay coil has the correct coil (low ohms). Will take up your offer Gav for that coil thanks - Will Pm my details.

This part of the circuit doesn't show much to see your problem.

It does show the 2 coils in series eg 1B and EE. If they both had the same resistance, each would only receive half the voltage and fail to operate. As you say EE is 2 ohms and 1B etc are probably lower resistance than most other coils.

The 1B etc coils won't operate with a 20 ohm EE coil but you can do a quick test by shorting out the EE coil and very quickly bridging the rollover contacts, as in brush the bridge wire past the contact so the 1B coil can't heat up.

See if the 1B etc coils operate and latch.

I assume the scoring is added when either of the  1B etc coils operate, so, it could be done by the EE contacts ( not shown here). Just reread you post and it says off 1 contact.

"the EE relay does energize but cant get the sequence bank relays to energize" this may be due to EE energising too slowly due to the high resistance.

Final update. I received a A-9746 coil (Thanks Gav), installed it, and have working rollovers! ^^^

Problem solved -The correct lower resistance coil fixed thr problem.
