Title: WTF? Duracell BS
Post by: pinnies4me on January 27, 2018, 01:15:52 PM
These were bought new six months ago in a 30 pack. Installed three months ago in a remote holder.

Today I get a reset message and on inspection, these batteries are leaking like the Titanic.

For those of us that have not changed to other memory systems, does anyone have a recommendation for batteries as Duracell is now officially retired from my choice list?

I remember reading that battery makers put the better batteries in the smaller packs, the seconds in bulk packs

thank goodness you installed the remote holder

Remote Battery holder or NVRAM.

I had similar issues with Duracell. Never seen it with any other brand so quickly. I now use "Varta" if I have to use conventional memory. I use these because most container pins have this brand installed, and to date, I've not seen one single Varta leak. Even though the batteries may have been in the machine for years - and they are flat. They are also VERY cheap, but so far, not nasty !

Made in PRC .......no doubt.
I have been using Varta which are made in Germany. I steer clear of Chinese goods (where possible).
A search of the web shows many other disappointed users of Duracell.

All alkaline batteries are prone to leak due to the way they discharge over time but Duracell seem to have more complaints recently.

Varta for me as well, they are cheap enough that I change them every 6 months.
No leaks to date.

If it rots like hell, it's Duracell.....

I go with NVram chips all the way.
No more batteries for me.

I have installed those non volatile ram chips so no batteries required ever. Catch you gotta do some pcb soldering work and it does not maintain the cpu clock setting, so if this is important to a game that say has midnight madness etc you would need to set the date/time when powering on.

NV ram is the best for most machines.
Any wpc or Wpc-95 cpu boards that come my way  for repairs get them fitted. (except for games that use the clock or have midnight madness
If you want your batteries to last for a few years with no leaks and don't mind spending the dollars then energizer lithium batteries are the way to go.
