Title: 1979 Dick Smith Catalogue Games Page
Post by: pinballist on June 07, 2009, 10:42:29 AM
While going through boxes of old stuff I came across my 1979 Dick Smith Electronics catalogue.

For the electronics heads among us who remember when Dick Smith was a REAL electronics shop, here's a trip down nostalgia lane  %$%

cool stuff, I have a 1983 catalog. That was when home pcs started kicking-off, cool to look back on. I uploaded some pages ages ago.

Oh wow I remember the VIC20 our school's lab got these after replacing the old Apple IIe.
Hey Greg, I like the fact that you posed the catalogue on top of a your Flash PF :p

Hey here's my first pinball book - I remember reading this cover to cover for weeks while dad & me were looking to buy my first pinball (GTB Volley).

How good is that !

My first Computer was a "COMX 35", then a C64, Amiga 500, Apple IIe clone and then genuine IBM PC 4.77 Ghz with "turbo" button  %.%

My first computer was the Dick Smith "CAT" computer, it was like 90% Apple Compatible, so a mate at work would copy his apple 2e games across for me, fun days.....

Speaking of old catalogues, i've been collecting Dick Smith for ages..... here's some of my collection, although 2001 onwards arent in the pic......
Top-left is 1973, which is catalogue #2.

They're a great peek back in time when there were no plasmas' or phones to be seen....
Sad how they've sold out and basically dropped electronics for the hobbyist.

I'm still looking for 1972, 1975, 1980, 1984/85, 2003, 2004, 2007 if anyone here can lend/hire/sell me them ?? ?? ??

Wow what a trip! I remember all those covers (from 79 onwards) I'll have a look later to see if I still have any of those missing editions for your collection.  I've got stacks of EA & ETI mags too ;)

nice in boxes! I would be tempted to buy them, but at the end of the day you realise they just take-up space and are not really practical anymore.

The most important thing I guess is that they all go to good homes and not end up in landfill.

Note that i have a partial 1984/85 (2nd row down, far-right, next to the 83/84), but it's only a cover with 10 pages left in it....

Forgot to add, i have the entire EA & ETI collections plus Silicon Chip too.
Yep i collect mags, and have a hoarde of data hehehehehe.

Thanx if anyone can help out....

Yep, time to move them on, let someone else ENJOY them, as i'm "over it" and prefer the space instead of unused items  %$%

I never had the diskdrive for the VZ's, i think i have a memory expander (a whole 34kb hehehe).
I solely bought my vz300 along with the RTTY kit to use with my scanner back in the day.

I know a guy down at Traralgon who has a crate of VZ's, about 50+ of them all versions.
He has a HUUUGE shed in the backyard and owns just about EVERY computer ever made.....seriously!

He even has the prototype Commodore"65" (yep, 65, not 64)....which was eventually released as ....drum roll....the Amiga !!

Well worth the drive to see his stuff. he has around 50 of everything, no effort to find a spare drive or cable or software.

His name is Anthony Beckett, and his webpage is: http://www.thepcmuseum.com/

Go to the "About Me" link along the bottom of the main page, and then scroll down the bottom of the 'about me' page for an insight into his shed back in 2001.....

I was there in 2005 and it was 'fuller' than the pics heheehehe.

He's a great guy, knows EVERYTHING about Everything with computers, who/when/where....

If you think you have an interest in computers, or know a lot about them, you're kidding yourself...this guy is king!! hehehehe.

I should get down there again sometime and have a decent look thru his stuff again...as far as i knew (back in 2005) just about EVERY computer on the benches are fully operational.
The computers in crates under the benches are spares to keep the bench ones alive.

Enjoy!

all i know is the 1540 disk drive for the vic20 was nearly as slow as the 'datasette' .. you still had to start loading before tea for playing said game after tea  <.>

oh and who in there right mind would risk there business data on a vz200.. for shits sake  ^&^

door wedge ?   *%*

The disk drive on the VZ200/300 was significantly faster than the tape drive which I believe ran at 300 baud. The difference was amazing.

Business data on a VZ? Just make sure to back it up at least twice, especially if you were using tape! Those were the days!
