Looks like a nice condition Sinbad as-is, and can only look wonderful once Nino has finished.

Matt cleaning-up your JD isnt that hard really. Do a basic pull off the plastics, clean them and then do the PF. Thats only a days work really, and you maybe really happy with just that done.
:)

Honestly, I am that nervous about screwing something up that I am almost content to leave the machine as it is i.e. dirty but everything working. Doubts about removing plastics, what cleaning product to use on what areas, how much is too much etc have prevented me from starting and continue to do so, and given that JD parts are difficult to source locally, the fear of breaking or screwing something up is even greater.

Matt - You need to buy another machine - cheaper of course ! and practice on that first.

Either that or wait a while and someone might start a DMD resto and you can follow that. They are a little harder than the classic machines that are subject to the restore threads documented at the moment. I'm doing my CV - But that won't be for a while..

Sometimes, just "diving in" works for some people - but it is YOUR game. You do what you feel comfortable in doing. If you want to wait a while - I might be able to help you out..or at least get you started !

i have a problem i fired it up the transformer was really humming away the chime unit went ding at the start then after a while the transformer went a bit harder then it made a sound like it was tripping and it stopped i checked all the fuses and they were fine also nothing else happend while the transformer was going i do not know what is wrong now is the transformer stuffed
Title: Re: cannes restoration
Post by: Strangeways on November 09, 2008, 06:26:47 PM

No - most likely not.

The "ding" means there is a stuck switch on the playfield, or the 100 or 1000 point relay is activated. When you start a game on, do you see any points scored ?
Title: Re: cannes restoration
Post by: coolspot on November 09, 2008, 06:56:20 PM
no and player 1 up is on and ball number 4 is on the transformer is not making a sound

Are all the fuses the right value ?

Sounds like the line fuse has blown...

its all good now but got one problem game will not credit
Title: Re: cannes restoration
Post by: Strangeways on November 09, 2008, 11:47:07 PM

Right - sounds good mate.. No credits..

Two ways to look at this. This is basically a Williams Machine, and they can have a problem whereby the coin switch arm gets caught at the bottom of it's travel. So check in your coin door to see if they both moving freely. Check that the contacts are making contact, and then try to give the game some credits...

Other way is to turn the game off, and advance the "Credit" wheel by moving the plunger...

Switch the game on, press the start button..

Report back when done !

Parts should be easy to find - Your machine is a rebadged williams EM.

When you insert 20c, the game starts straight away - no credit is added. Credit is used when you WIN games..
