Post by: MiCrO on February 24, 2010, 01:47:50 PM
Hi Guys
New to the forum...  <..>
Just wondering if anyone has any pics of the Colony pinball arcade at Forster NSW.
As a kid I had a great time there and it would be great to see it again. It no longer exist.

Many MANY people would love to see photo’s of The Colony.

My father was a Real Estate Agent in the area for over 30 years and i lived at Pacific Palms near Forster for many years.
I even went to school at Forster High. Year 11 was in 1987/1988 from memory. Ohh the days of teenage girls. lol  &&

I will ask dad to get out his old photo albums.
I had alot of fun at the Colony when i was younger. There was a thread on here a few months ago about this and there were photos as well of the main street in Forster taken from the beach side showing that paticular building back in the day.

Its a small world huh.  ^^^

Welcome aboard, Dave.

I have been to Forster for holidays when I was younger, but I don't remember any arcade. I think my parents would have steered us away from such places of ill-repute.

Thanks for the welcomes guys.
Great Idea Wotto I was thinking the local library or paper?

Yer caveoftreasures GOOD TIMES ^^^ maybe your dad sold it to the mongrel who put the bulldozer through it !!! only joking &&
He may have some sell pics?

Yes good times, at the forster caravan park in my mum and dads green canvas tent, hot as hell in the day time in that thing so down to the beach to get DUMPED on my surf mat (with fins!!!) and then off to the Colony in the arvo. The Colony was a great place that was run buy an old couple. I remember they where never friendly to the kids and it was always a hassle for them to clear the coins from the slots if stuck. And the timber (dance hall style) floors and those timber and glass red front by-fold doors. I was so angry when one of my mates told me years later that they demolished the colony! I thought it would have been some sort of historical thing?
Be great to see some pics one day.
Dave

Just got this reply overnight ( how good is that for a Council ! )
Alas – no luck however -  - - - - - - yet  &&

HI Mark,

I have searched Council's historic photos and could not locate any photos of the Colony.

I have been in Forster Tuncurry for the past 34 years and remember the Colony so well, I especially loved the little ten pin bowling allies that were down the back of the building.

In 1988 Council suffered a major fire and most of our files (expect building/development applications) were destroyed.  The fire had been the subject of arson and was started in the Records Section.  Still to this day we have historic requests and are unable to supply the relevant information because of the fire.

We have a historical association in the Great Lakes area, their details are below.

Great Lakes Historical Co-Operative Society Ltd
PO Box 23
Tuncurry NSW 2428
Phone 6554 6275

email - Museum@ceinternet.com.au

Good luck with your search.

Regards
Debbie Solomon

Not sure which one was the colony but I can remember when crossing the long bridge from Foster to Tuncurry there was a arcade joint right near the end of the bridge. There also was another one in the back streets of Tuncurry where they had a large slot car track and many pins.

I think the one at Tuncurry was call POT BLACK? (not great)
The Colony was in the main street of Forster, if you come off the bridge from Tuncurry and go through the main street it was on the left side close to the end. When you walked in the pinballs where on the left and the videos on the right and middle with the mini bowling down the back.
I have sent a couple of emails off to the local rag and a historical soc.
See how we go.

Hi Guys
Just received this from one of the local historical groups at Forster....

Hello David.

Sorry we do not have any pictures of the actual Colony, only the main street where it was situated. I will do some research and ask around and maybe we can come up with something. I will let you know if I have any luck.  I remember it well as my children like to visit it quite regularly

Keep you updated
Dave

My father and all his best mates were Real Estate Agents in Forster Tuncurry for 20 plus years.
I know Peter Revell who was/is a Ray White Franchisee for many many years who still owns shops in the Main Street of Forster may have a whack of photos.
I grew up in Forster Tuncurry and went to High School there.

The one at the Tuncurry side of the Bridge had many names over the years, with different names, but for its last 3 or 4 years it was simply called "The Arcade". It was indeed called "Pot Black" when it tried to specialise in Pool and Snooker Tables.

I still love that area although I live now on the Gold Coast , Queensland.

Forster Tuncurry is still a very nice and beaut place to visit.  ^^^ Look forward to your photos. Let me know if u want me to try n russle up some from my contacts/Dad.

Last year, I bought a car racing game card from a great fella who lives in Foster and who had a business supplying pinball machines and arcade machines from Foster to the north coast of NSW to Kempsey. He still had 6 or so machines but was winding down for retirement. His name is Rod Mulligan He lives opposite the Bolwling / RSL club. Here is his contact number

Great Lakes Amusements
29 macintosh street, forster, nsw 2428

I would be surprised if he diddnt have something to offer here.

I have seen an old photo of the COLONY!
And it looks good with some old Holdens and a Mini out the front at night (1960 approx).
Question - How many people want a black and white photo of the Colony?
The lady who has the photo might be able to do some prints at a cost and I just wanted to know how many would be interested and what size would you like?

I am in !

I would be happy with a jpeg to go in my photo frame rather than a printed copy but I am more than happy to pay the same price if need be.

LMK - whatever ends up happening I will take one.
