I think mostly people overlay the ticket with a decal?

Looking good so far Beaky its a shame they all wear on the ticket that would be a real bitch to touch up
its the only art work wear on the p/f
what makes it harder is that the ticket has specals through the paint, there is one way i am thinking of to repair it, scan it then buy some gold vinyl the same, then have the black art work printed on clear and stick that over the gold vinyl, then stick them to the playfield, (after removing the polish in that area)

if there is one available off the shelf let me know who sells them please
Fortunately the cliffies cover up the wear around the holes in the centre of the playfield

It depends on how long it takes to get the few bits & pieces i still need.

once it is fully shopped and all the new bits n' pieces fitted ($300 worth of parts going into it)
my Nephew wants $3000 for it so it will sit on ebay for a long time (with the ware on the p/f fixed of course)

Looking great Andrew.  Good to see a very thorough clean and shopout.
I really really miss my LAH.  !!!

Really FUN game and so under rated.  I will get another one day.
Lucky mine had virtually no wear on the ticket.  I remember seeing the decals too, but I cannot find them now.
MarkC did have a very nice playfield for a LAH a while back.  Not sure if he still has it though.

all the metal posts where cleaned and then polished with brasso and a dremmil with a small buffing wheel. (this took quite a few hours, one day i will be able to afford a tumbler  #@#)
all the screw heads and nuts where done the same way.
these have all been fitted to the playfield along with new plastic posts.

next step is the metal guides.
cleaned and regrained.

one of the guides needed to be regrained on both sides. In order to do this the rivets had to be drilled out and the mounts removed.
after i regrained both sides the mounts where riveted back on with the correct rivets.
Title: Re: LAH Shop Job
Post by: beaky on April 18, 2010, 11:09:54 PM
this is my new rivet press, it has been made from a 1 ton arbour press.
I bought a kit with all the bits & pieces needed to convert it to a rivet press, it came with the roll over dies and intructions on how to modify the press & make it more accurate.

I went to fit the rubber kit last night.
I ended up with half the rubbers being of incorrect size or wrong quantity. Why can't the people who supply the information in the manual get the rubber sizes right.  @.@
The rubber kit was supplied as the manual stated but the manual is wrong.
I ended up with a whole heap of rubbers being to large or to small for the posts and spaces.  ^.^

I have sent an email to my supplier with a list of rubbers that i need to finish re rubbering the playfield and also a list of the correct rubber sizes and quantities for a kit so next time some one orders a rubber kit they will get the correct rubbers.

Plastics have been cleaned and straightend, all new G.I. lamps have been fitted & one of the cliffie protecters have been installed.
i can't do much more assembly work to the playfield until i get the new lane guides, coil sleeves for jet bumbers, spinner, replacement rubbers and decals for the drop targets.

and now for the ramp.
the ramp had a lot of ball wear. can't find a new one any where so its time to try flame polishing.
I did pretty good for my first attempt.
I thought i would take a photo of it on coloured news paper so you can see how clear it came up.

I am waiting on parts to finish the playfield so i started on the cabinet
stripped and sanded then clear coat on the bottom and satin black on the sides

Looks nice and clean Beaky...

Personally i do not like cabinets cleared on the bottom and fully painted to the floor... Don't know why but i think it looks tacky...

I like to leave inside as orig as possible.. That's MO of course..

Again.....i can still appreciate the effort and awesome work...  *%*
Title: Re: LAH Shop Job
Post by: Caveoftreasures on May 03, 2010, 08:07:08 PM
yeh, to a certain extent i agree Pinfan.

I was around at Andrews when he was doing the inside of the cabinet. The original black overspray paintjob on most cabinets, including this LAH was a pretty bad from factory. If anything, the factory paint jobs from day one are really really bad. Just unfinished and minimalistic.
The finished look of black now all over looks like it should have been done from day one.
Before Andrew painted the clearcoat over the bottom of the cabinet, it was sanded back to bare wood and looked a treat. After the clearcoat of lacquer, it turned a browny yellowy colour and i did not like it either. The lacquer look looks shitty. But at least it is sealed i guess, but at a visual price.

One of the melbourne guys who did that Funhouse full restore, actually painted the bottom of the cabinet in a cream pinewood colour, which looked amazing.
I would probably go with that, before i would ever use lacquer.

To me, the inside of a cabinet is very very important. The extra effort gives a finished look that the factory never bothered with.
Hats off to Andy for masking it up and giving it a go. I think the lacquer will be thrown out for the next job i would reckon. Andy wasnt 100 percent happy with it either, but he has followed his customers directions, which is important in this regard.  ^^^

the only reason why i spray the bottom clear is to make it easier to keep clean. I do agree the raw wood bottom looks better

This is looking real sweet!

Definetely a game that i would snap up if i had the opportunity. I played it at Bumper in Melbourne a while ago and loved it. Being a fan of the movie helps too!

I actually dont mind the Laquered finish at all, but if your interested Beaky i got a better colour match for the timber floor. I just went and picked something close last time as no amount of sanding was going to get me the result i wanted. I'll let you know the colour codes when i pick the tin up if you like.

Great work so far!

Tim

I'm also a fan of 'raw' wood. My 2nd CFTBL was sealed by the guy who I had decal the cabinet, and I really don't like the way it looks - but to change it would be a lot of effort to most likely make it look 'worse', since I might nick the nicely restored cabinet. It's for sale anyways, so my keeper game is mine ;)

One of the neat aspects of any restoration is to see how someone else does it, at least in my eyes. We all have lots of ideas, and depending on who is looking, the ideas are great, or not so great, and usually no one of us can try everything.

We can learn through the efforts of others, which also make us think of more ideas :)

That's one nice LAH

did you manage to find a golden ticket decal for the playfield ?
unfortunately no one makes them, I should be able to get the gold adhesive vinyl from a sign supply shop and then print the black on it with an ink printer and then cover it with mylar.
i thought about printing the black on a clear adhesive film with a laser printer but by the time i put the gold then the clear with black printed on it and then mylar it might create a big lump on the playfield.

just a few more bits and pieces to do on it, just the sling shot and return lane plastics to sort out and the centre of the topper + a speaker for the cabinet & the gun for the ball shooter and serial number stickers.

And thanks guys for all the positive replies.  ^^^

Hey beaky,i'm not sure if these rub on transparent decal paper would suit the problem but it may be a solution for the black and it would be very thin, shame you cant paint the gold on and then put the rub on decal over the top, also the new mimaki commercial inkjets print gold, silver and white nowdays and most print shops have them i'm sure they could print it on decal paper, worth asking anyway.

here is the link for the decal paper supplies http://www.decalpaper.com.au/products/rubon-decal/clear/
