Title: PinBench - The Pinball "Bench"
Post by: Strangeways on June 21, 2011, 11:14:39 PM

Cue the pushy salesman on the cheesy late nice TV infomercials..

"Are you tired of losing tools your pinball cabinet ? Are you wasting your time going back and forth between your pinball and your workbench? Then you need a 'PinBench' (patent pending) "

 %.%

This is something I've used for years and I thought I'd post the details on the PinBench I made one day after I grew tired of losing parts in the guts of my EMs. This time I made a BETTER version than my original, and it seriously took me 30 minutes to knock up. Basically it's a workbench that sits flat on the pinball cabinet while you work on the underside of the playfield, or in the guys. I've found it useful for when I want to rebuild flippers, or clean the underside of a playfield.

So here is EXACTLY what I use it for - while cleaning and rebuilding untits on the bottom of the Buccaneer Playfield ;

Everything is "level" - you can place containers with cleaning solution and you don't need to worry about it falling into the game - it can't. It could fall sideways on to your feet, but that's about all. Soldering station - no problems. It is made of laminated wood, so no scratches !

Here's what it looks like out of the game - and remember - this is FLAT - whether it is on the game, or on your other workbench ;

Just a neat little setup that saves me hours of going back and forth grabbing tools etc. I hope someone finds this useful as I have

The handyest tools are the simplest... great stuff...

Question: HOW does it stay in place without sliding off the pin?  !@# !@#

I imagine version 2 will have rubber non-slip strips, and a bubble-level and adjuster screw to level it for different angled pins  :lol :lol :lol

The other option is the can-holder hanging on the side for the workman's beverage (or coffee if you're into that kinda thing) hehehehe.

.....Buy one in the next 30mins and get one FREE, sit them side-by-side, perfect for widebody games.....call now!!!!

So simple, so obvious, yet I have never thought about it, even when fishing around the bottom of the cab looking for bits!

Can holder fantastic.   You could really pimp the crap out of one.

There's a small piece of timber that is mounted on the front (but not on this version - I have not added it yet), and it is turned 90 degress and prevents the bench from slipping forward. The lock down bar assembly prevents the bench from dropping into the floor.

Thats a great idea Nino, very useful on the EM's where there is not a lot of room on the cab floor.

Excellent idea Nino - I have some offcuts of pine from building some shelves - should be perfect for one of these - I'm off to the shed!

Just thinking,

That you could build in a little over hang and drill holes along the side for
nut drivers, screw drivers ...

No good for DMD games it would slide off too easily!
it dosen't dent the side rails?
do you need to be carefull how much weight you put on it?

Fine with DMDs (my old Bench had a piece of timber that swung out in front of the lock down bar assembly).
Does not dent siderails - Well I've never had a problem
Weight ? Tools, parts etc - no problem.
