Post by: Cow Corner on December 20, 2011, 09:14:57 AM

Yes yes, put blue LEDs in the 'drone' inserts, it is hard to see them otherwise
I also put red flashers under the Iron Monger, makes him look angry  !*!

Stoked mate stoked!
I am only just scratching the surface of this gem.
The audio is insane and works well with an equally insane gameplay that I am yet to fully explore...fast and unforgiving..I think I'm in love!
You have to play this thing...man I thought spidey was the best stern I had played....boy was I wrong!

Stunning machine. I'd love to see white rubbers and colored cliffy posts on this title.

Thanks mate, good idea on the white rubbers and coloured cliffy posts.
I have the shaker motor kit and some LEDs comming in for it and I am thinking of putting chrome side armor and chrome legs on it as well.
There were 3 of these came into QLD yesterday arvo and 2 went straight away, there might be one left....

I have to agree with the chrome idea. If it was me i'd replace the black side rails, lock down bar and legs with chrome.
It is a great looking machine. Makes me want to buy one.

Note about chrome legs

I put chrome legs on my Spidy, I found outr that Stern legs are longer than Bally/williams, you will need to use long threaded leveling feet on the ends of the legs

Hi CC

Here are a few mods for you to check out.... Just played this today at a hotel nearby.
- cabinet trim and legs powdercoated in a metallic type candy apple red - looked really good in the flesh
- gold / brass coin door and ball plunger
- custom topper

it also had the sub woofer, shaker and gold coloured trim on the front of the back box.

Nice looking unit by Luke from LA Games - he did a AFM that is located in Newcastle which is absolutely stunning.

Post by: Cow Corner on December 31, 2011, 02:53:58 PM
Thanks mate, that looks cool with those mods( love the crimson legs and trim...topper looks pretty good too) and the spidey sitting next to it doesn't look too shabby either. That would be my fav pub if I was a local.
Does Luke sell these mods?

That AFM in Newcastle is on ebay now for $12 500.

I don't think so, haven't asked to be honest, he just gets pins and pimps them out like nothing else around and then sells them 1-3months later.

That AFM in Newcastle is on ebay now for $12 500.

I know he paid $4.5k a little while ago for the original machine and then pimped this machine out, better than NIB - new playfield, cabinet painted, new cabinet decals, painting all the aliens, all the saucers have led kits, where you hit the mother ship has like run way style led kits along the sides, chrome rails and lockdown bar, powdercoated legs, leds in the backbox for the eyes of the aliens, subwoofer kit, shaker kit, full leds and he is putting in a green shade to the display as well all new of everything and it was only sited 2 days ago. This machine lights up like a xmas tree even has epileptic warning sticker on it. It is an amazing machine but one I never could afford but he aims at the collector and his machines show up regularly - WH20 a few weeks ago for $5.5k and a Tron LE for around the $9k.

If anyone is around play it before it goes.

It sounds like he will be selling some mods in the near future if you read his ebay listing. I remember the WW for 5.5k. Sold it for 4.9k.

I did some research on the Iron Monger Toy and alot of reports state that it is the Hasbro Iron Man Toy range Movie Series - Iron Monger No:7. Stern then modified it by shaving a little in width and turned the legs so they face outward and screwed the legs in place and pumped the toy with a resin type material to stop it from cracking from ball impacts. The toy cost around US$100 to purchase modified ready to fit in by a few pinball supplies not including freight - so why not get the original model and modify yourself along with the chest led mod while at it, all for around $17 here in OZ plus freight, or even just keep in a box as a spare as I could imagine this will be one toy that will be hard to get in a few years to come or pinball parts dealers will charge more for because of it's difficulty to find.

I had a site listed but removed it (still can be seen via the below screen shot) but they have a clause that if it is part of a rset of figures and the one you want has run out they will then give you another figure from that range that they have most of - therefore check the fine print before buying as once purchased their return policy is a pain. The site I had listed had one left so I grabbed that but didn't want one of you guys to get the wrong one - but they are around on the net and only small coin.

Hi Cow corner

How did you go with some mods for your Iron Man as I saw in another thread somewhere you got something from Pinball life?

I didn't realise with mine until they set it up here and there was a lighting mod for the backbox as it wasn't working previously where the backbox fades in and out (the clouds and the iron man name) of different colours - looks nice.
Title: Re: Ironman pinball mods.
Post by: Cow Corner on January 15, 2012, 09:52:36 AM
Hi Jady,

I have the shaker kit and the backbox lightting kit for Ironmans chest plate...it is a flasher that ties in with the pop bumpers and goes off whenever the bumpers are hit.
I have heard about the cloud lighting mod but have not been able to find one, could you do some asking around for that one mate?
I am also after plug and play mods for the toys etc.....Elkor mentioned he was doing some, they should be cool.
No better pin than Ironman for mine, it's the only pin I own now and I reckon I would play it at least 20 times a day every day and there is no chance of me getting bored with it like most pins I have owned in the past, the lure of a wizard mode in one ball combined with super fast gameplay and the best pinball audio I have ever heard is all I need to keep me comming back again and again and again. Just needs a spidey or another Marvel pin ( if stern make one...maybe the avengers, the movie promises to be Huge!!) to keep it company.

Here is another mod for those interested:
backbox lighting kit where the fluro is removed and replaced with a board that houses various strips of led lights that change colour around the clouds and the IRONMAN logo as well as a strobe strip that flashes above the heads.

http://www.flipperfidelity.com/products.php?cat=Animated%20LED%20Backbox%20Light%20Replacement%20Panels&itemId=44

It also comes with a remote to alter the speed and select a particular colour as a permanent colour.

Hi Daz

here is the link for those parts in red........ $$(

http://www.backalleycreations.com/bac%20ironman%20pinball%20addons.html

But maybe you can get some parts from a stern supplier and take them to a local good powder coater, show them the add above with the 2 coats of powder coating and get it done there, then whack them on then keep the second set for coating another colour to suit your next machine. Save on shipping then ?????

Cheers mate they look great, might be a bit pricey getting them to and from + the job itself....might be cheaper to find a local powdercoater and see if they can do the job?

Swinksy, thanks for putting up that great link to the candy apple metal work for the Ironman.  ^^^  It gave me some ideas for when AC/DC hits the driveway.

We have quite a few powder coaters in QLD, so Mr Cow Corner (Daz) and I are going to investigate and see if we can get some great pricing for the metal work on the Ironman. It sure does look like a million dollars. That candy apple red looks sensational.  ^^^
Title: Re: Ironman pinball mods.
Post by: swinks on January 22, 2012, 06:10:46 PM
It looks awesome and makes the machine look a million bucks.

The brass plated door and plunger helps it pop also.
Title: Re: Ironman pinball mods.
Post by: Caveoftreasures on January 22, 2012, 06:23:17 PM
is that what you did with your one Swinksy ? looks great. I reckon the door would look better in person than what the photos show. That candy apple looks terriffic.

I liked the yellow pincab protectors from the photos. That looks really good with the yellow behind the red legs.  ^^^
Title: Re: Ironman pinball mods.
Post by: swinks on January 22, 2012, 06:52:09 PM
Cavey, I was lucky enough to get this one all done up - though it did the pub circuit for a bit over a year but still in awesome nick.

Definitely do the candy paints with the silver base paint as it just gives it depth - very hot rod. The leg bolts and levellers are also brass plated which completes the package.

The door and plunger do look better in the flesh than on photos - helps that there is yellow in the cab art. Even the moulding in the backbox has the gold and black centre trim which is a nice touch.

Have to give credit to Specialwhenlit a fairly new member here as that is who I bought it from.

Title: Re: Ironman pinball mods.
Post by: swinks on January 22, 2012, 10:12:38 PM
Ok I hearing you Daz, nothing like bit of choice, as not everyone wants the same one.

I am trying something a little different where I will make the files as individual 6" x 4" jpg images that you can go down to the photo shop and print a 6" x 4" inch photo, trim and then you have a colourful, thick paper and glossy image for about $0.15 each. I have tried to print other apron cards for other machines and had to muck around with sizing and then when I laminated the blacks went weird - maybe just me.

Let me know what you think, probably will work on a few other designs and once I get the print concept right people can PM with there email address and I will send the files they want or all of them.

Played Cowmans Iron Man yesterday. What a brilliant machine, I'm a convert..  Loved it  ^^^

acepowdercoating.com.au on Randall St, Slacks Creek.  They do good work; or work that I've had done I've been very happy with.
Last time it was a minimum $60.00 job, but they generally tag it in with a larger job so old mate with the big job ends up paying the brunt of the job cost, your smaller job is just an add on for a token cost.

No Probs mate.
It definitely makes a difference with service rails installed, It is just ridiculous that these are an optional extra.

I found the wiring for the flasher a little silly though, the instructions tell you to put the blue connector on the orange wire (which is the + wire) and the red connector on the switched - wire But then it tells you to connect the red wire on the flasher to the blue connector and the black wire to the red connector  !@#.

The instructions for the rails tell you to drill some holes in the bottom of the playfield for the screws, yeah  right, the screws are self tappers anyway so there is no need for a drill.

Daz, or anyone else who knows, what was the cost of the added slide rails for the underplayfield ? ... and do u have a link to the product with a picture.  !@#

Question  - do the rails really make a big difference and are they really needed as an option. The new Stern games are so easy to work on, that a 10 yr old could do it and with ease cause there is alot less under the playfield than 1990's dmd machines. I understand the pegs sit on the end of the pinny near the lockdown bar etc, and that the playfield can sit up and lean right back against the translite etc. Are the rails really needed whilst the playfield is in the machine, or just to use when the playfield is say out of the machine. Anyones advice here would be great.

Also, if u put LEDs into a new Stern pinny, do the Leds flicker with ghosting etc, or has Stern designed its game roms for Leds in mind ? anyone who has a new Stern know the answer to the few questions ?.... thanks in advance !  ^^^
Title: Re: Ironman pinball mods.
Post by: Cow Corner on January 23, 2012, 05:04:36 PM
Brett, the cost was around $16usd I think for the rails and shipping was a bulk order with the shaker etc.
As far as if you need them or not, you can get away without them but I prefer them in.....also check beakys post above, maybe ask him how much easier he thought the game was to operate on with the rails installed. They should be standard issue imo.
As far as led ghosting goes...I have no idea.
Title: Re: Ironman pinball mods.
Post by: Pop Bumper Pete on January 23, 2012, 06:11:55 PM
I have not seen any LED flickering or ghosting on Ironman or Batman, but both of those games also use LEDs in the pop bumpers

Spiderman has bad flickering as the lamps are supposed ot be at different brightness levels, rather than on/or/off
Title: Re: Ironman pinball mods.
Post by: swinks on January 23, 2012, 08:20:12 PM
my Iron Man has full LED kit and no flickering at all unlike my creature which has some ghosting as only part of the playfield has led's but not the ablaze 3's. IM looks awesome with LEDs - with the Ablaze 3 and 9's used which are designed for flashing and GI lighting.

http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=catalog&parent=192&pg=1

Though in my pop bumpers were the ablaze 1's and they don't work at all and then replace it with a ablaze 3 and it works.

the under side of a stern playfield is very similar to a sega pin.
these rails will make working on some parts of the underside of the playfield easier (such as flipper adjustments and servicing)

Ok guys, I have designed up 10 cards, only a beginner at this so be kind.

The concept of printing the files down at the photoshop on as a 6" x 4" had a few glitches going from a Illustrator file to jpeg but got it sorted in the end. It looks great, a nice professional finish and no need to laminate.

Ok, voting time as 5 sets of cards are going to be uploaded for your votes, as I will print off 2 copies (1 spare in case you stuff up the trimming  ^&^ ) of your five favourites (as you may try a card or two that aren't what you were hoping for) and I will mail them to you FREE (and let you trim them down if you don't mind). The card numbers are odd at the top and even on the bottom and you can mix up, it doesn't have to be 2 cards off the one sheet.

Offer is for Iron Man owners and those guys that have it on there hit list for 2012 - though I will contact Inkochnito to see if he wants copies on his website.

Here is a mod that I did a little bit of work on today,

1. bought a spare Iron Monger from RTBB for $22, so at least I have one good unit to go back in if needed or if I stuff up this mod

2. drilled a 2 mm pivot drill right through the centre (arc reactor) of his chest from the front to the back

3. then opened up right through with about a 8mm drill (first the whole arc reactor section and including the next outer ring because I did make a little mistake) all depends how much you want the globe to stick out really - so start small and go to suit your personal liking of the globe.

4. then drill the back out to 13mm roughly half way through to allow clearance for the globe holder fitting (Note: take care as the drill wants to pull through to the front and possible out the front of the iron monger wrecking the look so be careful).

5. then the light fitting, I buggered up the first light fitting in modifying so persisted with the mod with a crappy old bulb holder (which will be replaced soon). Screwed the light bracket to his arse to keep the globe forward to the chest hole. Used a blue frosted led into a extended globe holder with 2 temp wires connected to a 6 volt battery pack just to test for the photo and to check that it looks ok.

6. next minor challenge is to work out how the original monger unit comes out

7. and then lastly connect the new wires to a close GI lighting - which I will update once I work it out how with some photos.

What do you reckon DAZ?

photo 1 - front of iron monger with globe
photo 2 - back of iron monger with globe fitting
photo 3 - iron monger lit up via a battery pack

Long time no post but I do make three figure kits for $295 US$ shipped to AU (most cases).
Can also do singles of War Machine $110 and Whiplash $135.

Here is a vid.

All hook up using clips so no solder needed.
Mine use the GI for the chest led and the whiplash hooks to your flasher.

Thanks for looking.
There are three types of whips to choose from.

Robert is great guy to deal with, fast postage, excellent communication and helpful advice.
Thanks again mate, the figures look brilliant!

Why thank you my down under pinball brother  ^^^

Looks like most of AU is going to fall to the $295 side have quoted three and all would be the $295 version.
Remember you have your choice of three different whips.  White -yellow - yellow casted all EL and tie to the flasher.

Mark Clayton is the owner of PinballPa,l and he had health issues sometime last year. I'm not sure who runs the site now, but I know you cannot place orders. You might want to email and ask for a refund. It would have been a good idea for the site Admin to post a message on the website so people don't place orders.

Iron Man 3 is coming out so maybe some more mods, it might encourage a machine update ......

Good for the Iron Man owners out there, keeps the IM in the lime light

not sure about the colour reversal.

I like it but I prefer the Mrk VI suit better.

I like the older suits also, just be cool if they did a software update for some game variation but agree no more re-runs - keep it to 1150 units world wide.

The only thing I would like added to the software is a extra ball that is earnt and not random and maybe make do or die multiball acheivable to us mortals.
Other than that I think is just fine the way it is.
Yep leave it at 1150..... *%*

Daz, why not let others enjoy such a good title with more production ?
It wont make any difference whatsoever to resale value if they make another 200 or 300 etc. If anything, it might make the resale value go up because it will send a message that the Ironman pinny is highly wanted, so much so, they did a rerun cause it was so popular. With that comes extra code which again, makes all Ironman pinnys a better machine.
I dont understand why people think a machine in Pro version shouldnt be remade again. Everyone deserves to be able to buy a brand new one if its possible.

Because I am greedy and don't want the #'s to blow out and there was never a LE of IM and tha makes it more desirable. IM is already gaining major kudos as a top game that was discarded by many as too bare bones and cheap and nasty looking upon it's release, mainly in the us market. These same people now want one and are finding it very hard to obtain one due to the low numbers produced.
It will make some difference to the resale value, no doubt about it and I don't think it would be for the better.
If they re-run IM they should re-run SM too, that's only fair.

I don't know if they have enough Maccas toys left over anyway to do another run.

Indeed it is and will be and your right I will not be selling any of them in the near future unless something drastic happens, all the more reason to have low #'s if at all possible on at least one of them. I will drop off the tree one day and they will be sold eventually by my boys who will inherit them unless they decide to keep them. I am not buiyng them for investment i just really dig super-heros an so do my boys and now lots of pin collectors who missed out and could have bought one but bagged it big time are on the train, stufff em......You snooze you loose!
Like I said I am greedy... :lol.

I personally dont mind Ironman. The cabinet looks good, and the playfield is very fast.
When it was released I wasnt even thinking about new Sterns cause I was buying in numbers. I would like to see a Tron style re-run, but unless thay have playfields n hardware left over, it wont happen. BUT didnt they cut Ironman short to start AC/DC ? Might be a re-run ?

yeah agree with the do or die mode, also after achieving all the suits and reverts back to the beginning it would be cool if like a development suit could be gained adding a few more challenges. Even a status update when holding the flipper

Fastest stern out there easily, add the stronger lotr flipper coils and it is out of control fast...really crazy too fast, have to adjust the pitch to make it sane again.
I doubt Im was cut to make Acdc, Im was made in 2010 during the sub prime crisis in the states when their economy imploded on itself ages before acdc went into production.
It's just a bunch of people on pinside whinging that they can't buy one NIB and there aren't too many for sale 2nd hand to boot.
If they re-run it re-run spidey too!

The only drama with that is there are only 6 mark inserts in the pf but there could be a way around it, maybe simmilar to bogey mode but have them in order or random not just hit any one you like.

Like yours better mate!  *%*

Black looks good, but how can you go past hot rod/candy apple red?

I saw his video about the screenprint registration problems they had with Iron Man, that was pretty bad! Is yours ok Jady?

I do agree the candy apple red trim is real nice.

Thanks for the heads up with the video links via PM, much appreciated and a good watch.

I am relieved to say my playfield in the game is well centred and my brand new spare playfield is excellent - so all sweet here

Just read that the PAPA IM's are running a new code and people got asking and it is believed that Lyman is tweaking the code and possibly when they are happy it will be released to the public - looks like I will have to find this game again.

Title: Re: Iron Man - cool alternate translite - be quick
Post by: swinks on April 25, 2014, 01:51:15 PM
pinball customs has just released a small run of alternate translites - be quick if interested.

"Hey gang,

Price will be $100 shipped worldwide ($80 + $20 for shipping), you can send to salesATpinballcustomsDOTcom

These should be ready to ship by the end of next week

Thanks for the AWESOME response on these, I've let the designer know how happy everyone is with his design and of course he'll be receiving compensation for all his hard work (which hopefully is a good enough incentive to get some more ideas out of him, he's a really great designer).

I clicked on the picture and it tripled in size then I could see the excellent translite.. Very nice indeed.

An original and this one, swapped from time to time would be a great idea.

good post Jady(Swinksy).
