Post by: ddstoys on January 11, 2012, 05:19:41 PM
Well im pretty excited with my latest purchase not exactly what ive always wanted but probably as close as ill ever get.

Its very old and not a reproduction sadly its been converted to dollar coins which i might aswell leave so people can use it im told it was used up until recently by a carnie who has a heap of cool old gear fingers crossed i can end up with a bit more.

Which you will pass on to the rest of us????  #@#

There used to be a milkbar/cafe in Queenscliff that still had this type of stuff on the wall
burnt down in the late 70's

I reckon that's one very cool addition to your amazing and eclectic collection  *%*
Genuine penny arcades like that are quite rare & generally very expensive.
Repros are OK, but they really don't have the finish & solid look of ones like yours.
Well picked up.

Yes I've turned down plenty of the repro ones just had to be original.

Most of the crap I buy finds me this one I spotted out of the corner of my eye in a antique shop in Geelong

A few of the kiwi pinball collectors have a few of these flip ball games, a good mate of mine has 20 - 30 of these, they even made kicker catcher style wall mounted machines. I will email him over the weekend requesting some photo's for those who would be interested.

I must admit I want one of these flip ball games as well, I'll keep searching...

Used to love playing the penny pusher on Brighton Pier... theyd have  several of them next to each other all slightly off angle so it made a large circle... walk round and choose which slot to put your coin in.
Love these pictures... cheers Leon!

I can imagine the conversation with the cops...

"  But officer I passed the machine at the pub so I was ok to drive"

Cop walks you into the booze bus with one on the table

"ok then prove it"

Hey dan, wondering if you can help me out with some advice on these sort of machines?
after seeing this thread ages ago, ive been wanting to get something like these machines for my shop.
I came across one or i think is one of these sorts of games last week, i saw it through the window of the shop, however the shop was clossed on that day.
im going to go check it out next monday. but it seems to be a basket ball themed skill shot game. has little basket baller figure and i am guessing it shoots the ball into the hoop from the figure.
I didnt get to have good look at it but it looked like it needed some work and i couldnt tell if it was just a display or was actually operational.
assuming it all works what do you recon these sort of things are worth? i am thinking about making them an offer on it. it had a stand that i dont think was original, as the stand looked like it was made in the 70's or 80's being laminated wood grain style chip board, lol. i think the game is older than the stand, just by what i could see of it.

Ok, yer no good guys, its not that old, its from the late 80s or eirly nineties, I could see it better at night as the shop had the lights on. and didnt have chair in front of it this time, the figure is plastic, and the display is made to look like a score real but is just something you would see on a ss pinball. the cab is made to look old with classic stickers and what not, couldnt get pictures as the glare from the window glass sorry. it would have been something from an arcade in the nineties. bugger sorry to get hopes up,

Plastic figurines is a bit... yeh well.... at least on my repro bowler the figurine is cast bronze.. weighs a bloody ton

yer its like they made everything look old except the figure, i thought the figure looked old the other day, but i couldnt see that well. but the figure is 80s or nineties looking. was much clearer seeing it with the shops light on at night. it has footing thats obviously older than the machine it could be an old school desk or something to stop it falling over, lol, as it was that laminated chip board thats woodgrain color, where as the machine is white, with a stenciled basket ball player on it. i thought the base was newer than the machine because of the style, but its just made to look retro. its certainly not new but its not 60s. i was like you i needed to go see it to confirm. some one has also put led jukebox style light tubing inside it recently, to try and make it look more modern i am guessing. it wasnt turned on but i could see it. it may have been a midway?

hey went in and checked this machine out during the day, forgot my camera sorry.
its made by Quick silver??? not the surfing brand, its definatly early 90's, it has speech it looked old because upclose you could see it was very worn and crap condition. its prety cool however, the more hoops you shoot the more gumballs you get. its a rather simple cab and stand, i thought i would offer to buy it and restore, however they knew who i was and it would end up in more shop, and so they said as their shop is for sale they will sell it when the shop sells only. bugger. my plan was buy it and redesign it to make more retro.
