Title: What was the first pinball you played?
Post by: Creech on September 23, 2008, 09:25:57 PM
Can anyone remember the first pinball they played?

My only memory is my Dad giving me 10 cents to have a 5 ball game of some Gottlieb EM in the early 70's in a Continental Deli as he waited for his prosciutto to be sliced. All I remember is that I furiously double flippered that game and had my mouth open the whole time in awe of the pop bumpers and chimes. Would love to know what game it was. I can still hear those chimes to this day.

Your memory might just as well be mine Creech, exactly the same sort of memory, something with chimes that took maybe 5 cents a game (could have even been 2 cents!)

Ding, ding, ding!!!!

My mates mum worked in a greasy cafe called "Eats cafe" in south London - in there was a pin that we used to play, was a Wms Travel Time,

Few years later, im sitting in the pub talking to a mate over a beer or 5 and i happen to mention that id love to own a pinball. Mate replied that he had a non working one in the shed and it was mine if i wanted it.
I jumped at the chance! Pinball was a Travel Time but the Segasa version. Got it home and within 1/2 hr had her working 100%. I was happy as can be - mate was really pissed that id got it working and he had given it away.
That was over 20 years ago - i still have the pin in my collection and its by far the best condition pin i have.
me and "mate" havent spoken for over 20 years

Thats a hard one - We had pins in the family before I could walk. My earliest memory was Gottlieb Showboat, and Gottlieb Super Score.

That was a looong time ago !!

However, I STILL remember the day we drove down to the docks to pick up NIB KISS, Paragon, Mata Hari etc etc...

I still have the KISS and Paragon.

For me it was Addams Family... right after I fixed it - my first ever pinball repair.

I can remember playing it once it was working, and seeing the ball come down the centre of the playfield, and then go straight back up the way it came... I was AMAZED  :o

That's what got me right in to repairing them... I had to know HOW that happened  :D

I do want a Super Score - But not right now !

I have no idea what game it was but, my parents used to send me and my brother to the milkbar to grab a few things and give me and my younger brother 20c each to buy some lollies.  I of course would get a huge bag of lollies and con my brother into putting his money into one of 2 pins that were located in the rear of the milkbar.  I of course would "help" him play.  The money was gone in a few seconds as ball after ball drained  :(
I sometimes gave him a few lollies to make him feel better ;)
I feel bad about it now but what are big brothers for!! ;D

I was a bit of a late starter getting into pinnys, but KISS was the first one for me.. this was about 1988, and i was 20 at the time. it was in the Star Hotel (i think) in Macksville, on the NSW midnorth coast. Im a musician (guitarist) and the band i was playing in at the time was playing there, and one of my bandmates talked me into having a game with him. Needless to say i was hooked! Its one i'd definitely like to own one day, being the first game i ever played. Second game i played was Stern's Dracula, which i recently acquired from a guy in Wallsend.

My favorite machine which stays vividly in my memory was Gottlieb 'Sweet Hearts' which I loved to play in the late 60'/early 70's and would love to own one. (Showing my age)

I can't remember exactly which one was first but I reckon it was either Gorgar,Kiss,Playboy,Flash Gordon,Centaur,Six Million Dollar Man or Evel Knievel. We used to feed some coins into those, usually at Orbit 1 in Newcastle ( owned by the Hankin Brothers I believe ) or at the Top Takeaway on the highway at Belmont.
Those were the days.
Funny I can never remember playing an 'em' when I was a kid, but now I own three & love 'em!
I used to put heaps of coins into the new Space Invaders as well.
Lookin' back I don't know why ,when I could of been playing Pinball instead. %.%

I am not 100% sure, but when I got to uni I used to hang out in the pinball room and play lots after observing lots first. As I didn't have stacks of cash to spend, it was an incentive to get good enough to win credits! As far as I can remember, the first one I played at uni was Eight Ball Deluxe - an absolute classic. There were others, and if I saw them again I might remember them, but the one that stood out and stuck in my mind was EBD.

Can't remember - I must be too old!  It would have been a Gottlieb EM at a fish and chip shop, but at around 40 years ago I cannot picture it at all  #$#

cheers

The first pinball machine I remember playing was "Stellar Wars" when I was 5 or 6 years old - my next door neighbour had it in his garage and he invited me in to play a few games on it. The machine was gone from the garage not long afterwards, and I have never seen or played one since. I would love to play it again and relive that experience  *%*

Well for me as a kid about 25yrs ago staying around the peninsula in Vic, there was a heap of the old mini-golf places which were choc-o-block full of pinnies and arcade games.  I still remember hearing the pole position beep's as I walked past.

The first pin at the caravan park.....I can remember playing a Fandango, FJ Holden (which I think was brand new), Superman (wide body), Flash and HyperBall which blew me away back then!

I used to sweep the games room floor each and every morning to get a $2.00 worth of 20's to play.

Ahh, back in the days when 20c would buy you 5 balls!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread...but when I was in primary school (Thornbury, Melbourne) around 1980 there was a milkbar across the road form the school.  Every day after school a bunch of us would go over there to play the pinnies, mainly Cosmic Princess and you guessed it...Playboy.  That was my first taste of pinball...just loved the POP sound when you got a free game.  I reckon that milkbar owner must've made a fortune...he sold fireworks as well but that's a different story

I used to play the Haunted House at the local fish and chip shop. They later replaced it with a Wipeout and now I have one here.
