Title: X-Men - Mods
Post by: swinks on June 08, 2012, 08:12:45 PM
I know this is early but since pinheads around the world are already talking about how to mod their brand new machine that they have only ordered today (press release day - 8th of June), I thought I may as well capture the ideas as they come along to help those considering any mods.

Here is a link to when the machine was released:

Here is the link to the thread when speculation of X-Men occurred, press release (page 18) etc:

same guy that photoshopped the chrome look did another with a black nickel treatment - a few weird reflections but would be a nice different effect.

Here is another one where people were saying they like the pro art better than the LE - more specifically the translite. Below is a picture of the LE with it's original glass then a second photo with the pro translate photoshopped in.

Stern translites seem readily available, but will we see replacement limited edition translites for AC/DC + X-Men available to purchase down the track?

Cheers!
Adam.

coloured dmd's will be available soon:

http://xpinpinball.com/products/displays/XP-DMD

for around the $325 US

a blue one would look awesome on the x-men

that aside they will be doing red, orange, green and blue dmd's, told they will be suited for Stern (not sure on 1/3 2/3 displays as well as full screens) and hopefully available for the 90's WMS / Bally's as could make a creature of a WH20 look even better.

Yeah I saw them on pinside, it's good to see that the design changed to 3 claw marks to match wolvies claws. They look good.
The X-men thread on pinside is a good read.

just in case anyone was curious about the changing out backglasses:

from pin side: "Stern won't sell LE backglasses. And if yours breaks, you have to send whatever is left of it back to them to get a replacement.

The Pro translites are another matter, you can order those from just about any Stern parts distributor."

Lets hope no-one drops a LE backglass then.
To me the Pro is a much better looking package than the 2 LE machines. Either blue or red, they are just right over the top. This is the only thing stopping me from grabbing a LE X-men, besides the fact I have not played it yet or even seen a video of the gameplay.
Cmon Stern, pull ya pants up!!!...... (((

Hopefully the game play is better than it looks?

Lets hope there isn't too much interest over here, keep the numbers down.
Game looks great compared to the last stern pro released, with superior artwork and shot combos.

The ONLY thing the X Men machine needs is a set of mirror blades IF u want it to look wider etc. Otherwise, it really needs nothing whatsoever.

Also, the X Men Pro at Surfers Paradise, as of this afternoon, whilst opened up n cleaned etc, has had 1400 games in just over a week (5 ball games with ball save turned on etc). The pop bumper count is over 90,000 hits, the front scoop has had over 35,000 hits and shows no wear at all.  If the game is used in a home environment, it would basically never cop any wear at all really, but I guess for $65, a cliffy wont hurt, if u like the look of it.

A week at timezone for a pinball game is like a years torture from a home collector on speed. Watching people hitting both flipper buttons for 20 minutes non stop is extremely painful.
Is there a law against pinball abuse out in the wild ? lol

Besides from the blades and the shaker( which is being installed by amd for me) both of which are aftermarket costs I will be adding the cliffy, non ghosting leds and a custom topper.
I like the look of some of those figues but I agree that you wouldn't want to overload the machine with them.

the X-men LE I played had a sub but with the standard issue speakers and it sounded awesome.

Chrome or a Metallic Gun Metal Grey or that Black Nickel trim (like on page 1) would look sweet as well but they can happen in time - just be great to get it and gamer on - congrats guys, lucky buggers  @@*

I have left my AC/DC stock without LEDS, will prob do same with X Men, std still looks the goods. X Men has LEDS in pops already and a few around.
Hard to change out stock when it looks so good std. Will have to have a play n see really.

Always YES to the shaker motor. Cant order a BNIB without that mandatory add on. It would be missing something major without that.

There are so many cool mods u can make for x men just from the available general x men toys for sale on eBay. Even big w and k mart had some great stuff when I visited the other day, especially large toys for a custom topper.

I am off to the Sydney markets tomorrow and will have my eyes open for any large x men topper toys, hope to pick up something exceptional for a mod or two.

If I had the extra money I would have bought a second edition tron in a heartbeat, especially cause u can add the el mod wire easily to make a tron le look wise.
U can also get a x men later if u want. Tron is such a cool looking game and both the audio and the dot matrix displays are so cool and unique, it is a excellent game in anyone's collection.

Pete, you will enjoy tron, it's a game you can take your time with, chose your shots wisely and build good points and a great game. U can't have every pin that is just flat out. U need a variety and tron will go perfectly with your acdc Pete.
That new translite is excellent. I reckon the second edition release will hold its value better from a collectors point of view. Can't wait to see yours come pete, Xmas present for sure.

The Iceman mod is very cool and either this or a cyclops figure should have been put into this part of the playfield and incorporated into the gameplay from day one. It not only looks fantastic lit up in blue led through the see through iceman figure and white led in the flasher but I also think it really adds to the feel of the game in general. The storm/xavier mod is pretty cool too...provides a strobe type effect to the backboard where the storm figure is when in the storm mode, the xavier scoop pulses red led when in use., haven't got the blackbird mod in yet.
Still have to put the mirror blades I got from Jady ages ago into it as well.
I don't think I will spend the money but the pro would look really nice with chrome legs etc as well.

OK, after looking at Iceman n Cyclops n other little figures that some are adding to X Men,which were good add ons when its daylight and u can see the playfield easily, I have worked out a very simple mod for my X Men Pro that is simple and cost effective that anyone can do by spending $6 tops.

On the X Men Pro, there are 2 Flasher bulbs with Blue dome covers on the Left side of the playfield (representing Magneto) and 2 Yellow Flasher bulbs/domes on the right side of the playfield representing Wolverine.. The Blue ones on the left side look good, n the colour is nice when the flashers go off, but the right side yellow ones dont seem to pop anywhere near as nice as they could.
So, what I have decided to do is replace some. I will change the blue x 2 to red for magneto, and change the yellow x 2 to blue. It will work much better. In fact I was going to add a extra few flasher domes each side of the playfield, well, at least one more of each anyway.

I have incl a photo of the stock playfield with the flasher domes as discussed. Red will look so much better IMO. $6 mod worth doing I think.
*as usual click on the photo for it to double in size.
Title: Re: X-Men - Mods
Post by: Caveoftreasures on April 05, 2013, 11:55:47 PM
continued............

With the first photo expanded, u will see there is plenty of room on both the right side and left side of the plastics to add an extra flasher dome, right next to the front flasher domes on both sides.

On the left side, I will add 1 x extra dome cover in front of the existing one, and after changing the colours, I will have 2 x reds  on the left side, one front n back, and the added one will be in blue at the front next to the red.

On the right side of the playfield, the added dome cover will sit next to the original one, I will have a blue one at the front and a blue dome cover at the back, and the newly added one will be yellow.
This way, I can utilise existing parts, and the only bill will be for 2 x new red dome covers which I already have, and 1 x extra blue dome, and I only have to add a little wiring, and the flasher bulb holders x 2, which I already have.

I will take photos one I finish it.  ^^^

NEW X MEN WOLVERINE movie starting in July 2013.  Might help sell any Blue LE Wolverine X Men models any Stern Dealers have in stock !

see details >

In "The Wolverine," everyone's favourite Glenn Danzig-lookalike mutant is in Japan, where he's protecting a beautiful but mysterious woman from local gangsters. Caught in a land and a culture that's new and unfamiliar to him, Wolverine not only must confront a band of dangerous samurai but a new nemesis determined to bring him down. The photos -- first revealed on EW.com -- certainly emphasize the "Stranger In A Strange Land" aspect of the narrative, as Wolverine visits a pachinko (slot machine) parlor, strides tall and sure through some official-looking setting, and runs through a Japanese garden, clearly prepared to deliver some rough justice.

Some cool pictures below, and Wolverine in a Japaneese Arcade as well !  *%*  and hopefully he gets a nice blonde somewhere along the way ?

**As usual click on the photos to enlarge. The first photo would make a great translite in a X Men, espescially a Blue LE with some additional artwork-s.

If anyone has any leads on a "Blackbird" Black plastic Military Jet used in the X Men Pinball Display/Graphics, please let me know.

I want to place it ontop/near the left hand lower ball scoop on my X Men Pro as a neat Mod.

For it to fit, it would have to be no bigger than apx 10ish centimetres, or slightly bigger or smaller.

Thankyou !
