Title: Avengers - Mods
Post by: swinks on December 02, 2012, 07:16:16 PM
I just couldn't help myself so had to launch a new thread with things you can do to change, improve, customise or add your own personality to your Avengers, starting with a Hulk Attitude Free Play Card.

On my computer the image detailed here on AP comes up really lime green but if you click once to view the full file it dulls down a little.

if you want to change the side rails on the pro, here is one site to purchase from and then you can get a custom metallic powder coat done to bring the pro trim up to a Premium / LE look.

I was certain Bruce-AMD Stern in Sydney also sold those siderails, and with postage from the USA, it may be cheaper to get from AMD Sydney ?.
Maybe worth a quick email to Bruce when anyone speaks with him next...if he didnt have them in stock, he could certainly get Stern USA to add to his next pinball shipment (or any other Stern parts) to help out any members.

Good thread Swinksy. Cards look good. Maybe a huge HULK figure for a custom topper or any of the Avengers team in toy format would look cool...

the girlie card is awesome......

so many things you could buy for this machine in mods etc.....even a huge Captain America shield with some flashing lights behind it for a topper, or even a huge toy Hulk or any of the Avengers characters really would be cool....Toppers for this machine would look excellent.

that's a bit harsh   %.%, a few weeks ago you were interested in a hulk LE...

That aside I do like chrome but since the cabinet has alot of silver, I don't think it will have the same contrasting impact and a full chrome package will cost a heap.

Wasn't menat to be harsh just my opinion..it looks well...Yuk but if you like it fill ya boots mate and go hard.

NEVER been keen on hulk le, I was going to grab the blue avengers pin ( very glad I didn't) and  if you recall correctly I hated that it was all about hulk when it was a avengers machine but hey whatever works for you. #@#

I am over all this powdercoating nonsense.

I saw some pics posted somewhere of someone who has done it already, just does not work IMHO

.....dont like the green at all sorry Jady, but u never know when u have the machine infront of you ?........

Since I have the Avengers Pro translite already, I will say that the only colour that will work with the PRO in my mind would be red, or
candy apple red, or a very similar, or same blue as the LE.

The gun metal grey they have chosen for the Pro works perfectly if u want to leave it stock. Black would have looked awful, so gun metal grey was smart. personally I like to keep my machines Stock and true to the designers orig thoughts, but bling doesnt hurt at all as long as it can be reversed.
Looking forward to the other colours just for comparison.

Also, all those cards u have done look excellent.  ^^^

Post by: swinks on December 26, 2012, 01:37:31 PM
thanks for the thoughts guys, hence doing it on a computer to get a idea before spending the dollars.

I would not agree with keeping it the way a designer made it - the Pro is a operators game so it has the industrial black hammer tone bumpy powder coat as per below. It may look grey but it is a flat black as per below image. Yes the contrast looks good on this one with the Stern stock black finish but still prefer the a metallic finish as it adds more depth and makes it look a little more classy and hot rodded. I will definitely do a red / apple finish and a blue finish in graphics to see and help others. I personally won't go another red / apple metallic as my Ironman has that finish.

This is why a chrome finish would not look good as it would get lost in the silver cabinet.

Hey, that bright purple they have used on the Pro factory flyer around the whole machine as a outline might look excellent.....

Do one with that if u could Swinksy.....purple might just work really well, and be very unique ?  !@#

Here is one last card set with a difference, with the team graphic and rules spread across 2 cards.

This way I could use a cool graphic showing the whole team including villain Loki.

You will notice a white line in the centre - trim here to divide in half to have a dedicated lhs and rhs matching set of cards. Sorry Capt American is halved, just the way it balanced out with the graphic that I found.

Let me know thoughts, changes to fonts if any

here is the red mock up, the premium is supposed to have a red apron so red trim kit probably would be cool and the premium also is supposed to have the pro decals

here is the chrome look, my apologies still learning illustrator - gives you a idea though.

To me the chrome may get lost in the silver decals

Title: Re: Avengers - Mods
Post by: Caveoftreasures on December 31, 2012, 02:34:25 PM
the red would have to be alot darker to look better i think.......

my choice still leans towards stock/gun metal grey or maybe a dark blue..........I will have to wait til i see the machine in person to really decide....

good work on the apron cards and the different colour side armour Swinksy.
Title: Re: Avengers - Mods
Post by: swinks on December 31, 2012, 02:45:04 PM
starting to agree with you cavey (just not a fan of black trim), it does seem more balanced but reckon the black needs the button guard side trim to remove the big empty space where the silver is as reckon they did the decal design to suit the premium which I am guessing will have these rails.

Also that is the reason for doing the art to get a feel of what would look cool and what doesn't saves spending a heap of money and regretting it.

You can buy the flipper guards (half semi circle with flipper button hole) from AMD for apx $15 a pair instead of having to buy the whole Stern rails with flipper guards....saves u paying the $66 a set plus postage if u decide to keep it the stock colour.......

I was dead set certain I was going to change my AC/DC Pro metal work to red like the Premium/LTBR etc, but the more the weeks went past, the more I found that the stock colours work really well. I also found that when playing a Premium with the bright red rails etc, the red was a bit distracting......

See what u think when it arrives....

I wondered what the burn marks were on the captain america shield ...? BUT when u click on the photo, u can see that he has designed battle damage into it with fine detail of scratches and bullet holes/damage etc...very cool...just needs a few flashing lights now..... ^^^

The green looks terrible on the Pro. The blue isn't too bad, but I'd leave it stock or go chrome. I'm a big fan of chrome extras but I'm not sure it would suit Avengers the way it does with other themes such as Tron.

A pinsider has already come up with a cool tesseract cube mod.

utoplay=1&rel=0

"Parts needed
Golf Ball Display Case (Hobby Lobby $3)
Frosted Glass Spray (Menards or your favorite hardware store $5)
Wax Paper $2
LED Ball with spring switch (Toys R Us Rubber Ball $10)
Bracket (Right Angle Aluminum from Menards and a lot of Dremel work $6)

Note: the rubber ball contains three LED balls submerged in a "liquid". The ball has to be cut open to retrieve the three magic LED balls with motion sensitive spring switch."

backbox lighting mod info - done by a pinsider Zdoor

"Since nobody is making a backbox kit yet, I made my own. Used foam board from Michaels. It was not too hard. Put color changers behind the Avengers logo. Also wired an inline dimmer on the led strips not controlled by the color changing remote so I could mess with the brightness some. Dimming definitely improved the glare. Still tweaking it some but its pretty decent for a first attempt."

"Had a couple people PM me for some instructions here is what I did.

I had most of the items already. You can get dimmers, LED 5050 strips and rgb controllers on eBay or a site I use called torchstar.com. I don't use their connectors as I find solder more reliable. The foam backing I got at Michaels for less than 10 bucks. You need to remove the flourescent tube and ballast. The hardware to mount is from Home Depot. I used #6 threaded all thread and cut it to 4" pieces. You also need 4 #6 fender washers, 4 nuts (1 to tighten against the bracket and1 to hold the fender washer as backing for your board) and 2 wing nuts in the same size. Your finished board mounts to the hardware once installed. I tapped power at he right front of the machine using the factory 12v/5v molex plug. I made a 3 prong molex with parts I had or you can find them on Amazon. You'll need a crimper also. I made a molex connection at the back box for removal using the same connectors (I had a bunch from other stuff).

If you are going to do flashers, you need to wire those led strips on their own circuit for each flasher. You'll run those wires to under the play field and to the location of the flashers you want to tap into. You really only need the ground wire and can use the 12v from the power supply wire you already ran. You'll need to either tap in at the idc connector(which is what I do when possible) or solder in at the flasher.

It took me about 4-5 hours and I had to lay out the lights from scratch. If you don't need tools, you can build it for around $75 and have enough parts to do several boards.

Good luck.

Giovanni"

If anyone has any leads on a "Blackbird" Black plastic Military Jet used in the X Men Pinball Display/Graphics, please let me know.

I want to place it ontop/near the left hand lower ball scoop on my X Men Pro as a neat Mod.

For it to fit, it would have to be no bigger than apx 10ish centimetres, or slightly bigger or smaller.

Thankyou !
