here is a link if you are getting / wanting to upgrade your Stern machine with hinges, trim, lockdown bar, legs, levellers etc
http://www.greatamericanpinball.com/product_detail.asp?productId=39&categoryId=25&returnPage=%2Fproducts.asp%3Fpage%3D3%26categoryId%3D25
As a comparison AMD quoted me $220 just for the 2 side trims that didn't even have the button guards.
and for the coin door

Shipping the rails here will be the problem. Quite expensive due to the length of them. Not a bad price for the kit though.
I have one of those Pinball Decals chrome doors and the quality is very good.
-
I got a quote for custom painted complete set from BackAlley and his price for shipping, legs, trim, lockdown and hinges was $245 - not check but the only people that can supply Stern button protected side trim is AMD and it is already black powder coated so no other option here in Aus that I have found.
Greg (RTBB) - maybe you can bring in a few sets ?????
-
Pinball Life have sold the chrome Stern button guard rails and lockdown bars in the past, but don't stock them at present.
Tony from The Pinball Shed in Brisbane has had the button guard rails for sale in the past. You could give him a try, but again they are the black finish. You could always get them polished up yourself.

The way that I read it, is that kit that you linked to is an upgrade for machines that they sell and not for Joe public to buy?

No i think it is for anyone to purchase, but as a bonus they will fit the kit to any pinball you buy from them. That's how i read it !@#
-
it was posted on pinside that you can buy the kits from them
-
swinks, get your existing coin door chromed locally rather than buy one from pinballdecals. It will cost far less than the prices he charges (and no shipping either).
-
I am not doing one, but more of a info and a few pictures to help others - but agree that coin door from the US is expensive and once shipped will cost around the $600 total - ouch.
I posted a while ago just the coin entry and coin flap outer trim in chrome and rest of the door in black - which looks great and alot cheaper

I've had to read it a few times !@# and I think you are right. Still can't understand why it's listed just under upgrade !@#

Would love to fully chrome a machine out. Anyone get any reasonable prices to do it?

I have had various machines chromed out, and the pricing I recieve on the Gold Coast for various parts is as follows >
pinball legs, fully chromed @ $25 each
lockdown bar @ $50 each
side rails @ $50 each
Total to do a machine $250
The place I use does a excellent job, and the chroming is a thick chrome, not a minimalist chrome job which you get from alot of places. I think from memory they measure the thickness of the chrome layer in microns, and my guy only does the thicker job so his work stays beautiful for years to come.
I usually pay him cash upfront, which is why he gives me the pricing above, rather than charging apx 30 percent more if u ask to pay at the end. As they say, cash doesnt talk, it swears in every language.lol
If u dont live on the gold coast and u want chrome work done for a pinball machine, my advice is to shop around, there are plenty of chrome places to go to, and use my regular pricing as a reasonable gauge as to what u should be paying.
Also, dont use a place that sends the stuff off, try n find the largest chrome works u can find, u want to go to a large industrial style place that is the final stop on the ladder, deal direct with the factory that has all the chrome and chemical baths, cut out the middle man, which is what i do. Hope it helps Sgtmax.

Is that gold coast electroplating.?
I wonder if they do black chrome.

Very cheap. Worth a drive down from Brisbane for those prices.

It's just around the corner from the GC tip, or apx 1 x street away from the trailer 2000 place on the corner at Arundel.
There are 2 seperate businesses who call themselves Gold Coast Electroplating, the one I go to is the large factory.
There is another small one a few streets away but they charge alot more than my bloke does.
When i go past, I will get the owners name n contact details again if anyone wants it, or u could drop in your stuff to me and I could get it done for you at the best price since I have been there fifty times.

I priced up 4 legs and bolts from a place in Nerang and the owner quoted $360 cash. Told him he was dreaming, will never go back, my advice is to call around 1st. Pissed i wasted my time and fuel !*!
Heck $80 gets you a new cromed set?.

$360 cash %.% That price is a joke. I bought a set of polished Stern legs for approx. $120 from PL. Didn't add much to my freight and the quality was very good.

here is the link below for the electroplating place I use for all chrome work etc.
http://gold-coast-electroplating.com/
They USED to be next to the tip, or just around the corner from trailers 2000, but they sold that building to Bunnings for a few million and moved to Pine Ridge Road, just one kilometer accross the highway.
Ron is the owner and the old bloke I have always dealt with, or u can see anyone in the office, but the prices I have quoted before are cash, no receipt, no gst, paid on drop off to make things easier for all concerned and cheaper for you.
I also had a chat about why these imported pinball chromed legs just dont look anywhere near as good as the chrome finish this place gives, and the owner explained they use 30 microns of plating, compared to chineese/overseas places use use 5 microns at best. Hence the finish from the aussie business is far far superior.
Just see what the result is if u take anything here and u will see instantly what a job done properly looks like.
Also, what u see in the link, photos wise, is a third of the place, its huge. Largest in QLD, and close to the largest operation in Australia I am told. The other building was twice as big, but it seems they have streamlined things a bit more in these new business premises.
